  1. Hey, I was looking at the Evolution Miniatures Modern Russian Soldier figures and started wondering how these were painted for the boxart. More specifically, the digital camouflage pattern. I found a couple of ideas on another thread but wanted to pick "the community mind" about alternatives. Source: http://www.evolution-miniatures.com/ Source: http://www.evolution-miniatures.com/ Does anyone happen to know who painted these figures and what method was used? I also contacted Evolution directly in case they would care to share the method. Many thanks in advance! Cristian
  2. Hello all, Here is my recently completed 1/48 Great Wall Hobby Mig-29 9-12 Late marked as an 'AS' variant of the Slovakian Air Force. The build thread is here Extras used included Quickboost seat, Quickboost FOD covers and an Academy donor kit for all the AS specific parts, including the decals. The kit itself is very good, with lovely detail. There are a few fit issues but hopefully i've addressed these in the build thread. The decals were a bugger to fit and required some creativity. With my Czech 'Splinter' Mig-21: Thanks for looking. Dave
  3. Gosh I now have 4 builds on the go at once plus some other projects as well (F-111, Bf-109, Mirage 2000C, A-222 Bereg, F-16CK, Gripen, OSA-1…better stop now before I scare myself!)….and to top it off I’m hosting as well. As I keep saying who need a life outside modeling! So in keeping this build inline with a few planned and completed I’m going to do this one, it’s been in the stash for a wee while. It doesn’t look to bad at all though I do know there are a few issues with the base model I’ll need to correct. As with all of my builds there are a few extras to be thrown in…. The exhausts and the radome will correct two of the main issues with this model. For some unknown reason I ended up with two cockpits!! The Aires one is much nicer in detail then the Wolfpack one. I’m really not to sure of the differences in the cockpit between the two version, I’ll have to do some further research. If the difference is really minor (noticeable to rivet counters only) then I may use the Aires one because it’s so much nicer….of I might mix and match between the two. These are the decals for the scheme, it should or should have made the scheme much easier to produce. But I have heard rumors that there are colour issues with these decals. So to make life more difficult as I have a want to do I’ve managed to find a set of masks for this scheme, they’re from Scale-pro. Not sure what they’re like but I’ll give them a go. So I’ll now be painting her in the digital scheme…..simple really! …and just because I think I was a bit bored on my first shift back at my normal job I have the following coming as well; Karaya – PTB-1500 fuel tank Aires – Wheel bay set Plus some resin AA-10’s and AA-11’s I know there lots of AM stuff thrown in but the build should be nice and simple, unlike the painting!!! Once the F-111 is out of the way the mayhem will commence!
  4. Hello all, I've been looking forward to this GB for some time and having recently been to both the Czech Republic and Slovakia, i've decided to build 2 jets from those nations' air forces. Here we have a 1/48 GWH Mig-29 9-12 late type, which will be marked as an AS model of the Slovakian Air Force: http://media.defenceindustrydaily.com/images/AIR_MiG-29_Slovakian_Digital_Thunder_Camo_lg.jpg Kit: Extras: Will be using Quickboost seat and FOD covers, along with an Academy donor kit for the Slovakian specific antennae, but mainly for these: Hope they fit! The reason i'm using the GWH kit, as opposed to the Academy kit, is simply the former just looks that much better. I would need a lot more AM for the Academy kit (nosecone, cockpit etc) which pushes the price up close to that of the GWH kit. Hope it builds as good as it looks! Dave
  5. New Re-releases in Digital format: RNZAF C130H Euro1 scheme 1/48 and 1/72 RNZAF P-3B/K Orion High viz scheme 1/72 and 1/144 As always these are available through my website John www.oldmodelsdecals.com
  6. Here's my current WIP project, the famous "wooden wonder": the De Havilland Mosquito. This is actually my first British WW2 project since I started doing 3D some fifteen years ago! About time too, as I lived in the UK for the better part of a decade! I've started with the most common version, the FB Mk VI. The Mosquito served in no less than two dozen countries and about 60(!) pilots made ace on the Mosquito, so it's a nice and versatile subject! Some more images of its current state: Still some modelling left to do, but it's starting to look like a Mosquito! As per usual there were no "perfect" drawings available, so it's a combination of known dimensional data, scale plans, engineering drawings, manual drawings, DH fuselage lofting data generously supplied by Mark Gauntlett (many thanks Mark!), AAEE reports, NACA reports and hundreds of photographs. I.e. plenty of research! Mark's drawings are the most accurate around, by the way, and form the basis of this model, though especially on the tail, wing and engine nacelles I've deviated from them were necessary. My goal is to make this an absolutely accurate 3D Mosquito. The Mosquito will go well with the Junkers Ju 88 I made last year. These two aircraft are perfect adversaries and during the course of WW2 they fought eachother around the clock, over sea and over land, in all bomber, fighter and recce roles. Interestingly the battle between the Ju 88 and the Mosquito started even before the prototype was finished! On 3 October 1940 a well-aimed attack by a single Ju 88 flying at just 60 ft destroyed most of the jigs and killed 21 De Havilland staff, while injuring another 70. The prototype escaped major harm luckily, and as a sign of things to come, the Ju 88 was shot down by small arms fire... I should be rounding this up this month, so stay tuned!
