It has been widely accepted that the majority of British Sherman, Cromwell, Centaur and Churchill tanks fighting in Northern Europe between the D-Day and VE-Day were plain Olive Drab (either US No.9 or British SCC 15). There are however some pictures known of Centaurs in SCC2 overall, Cromwell Mk.VIs in SCC15/SCC14 camo or similarly bi-coloured Sherman VC Fireflies. Trying to make my small collection of British WW2 tanks more colourful I'd like to ask you, whether are there any pictures known of the SCC15/SCC14 painted Cromwell Mk.IV (not VI) from North European front? And - still more difficult to find - a Churchill Mk.IV sporting SCC2/SCC1A MTP46 pattern from the same period and area? Mike Starmer says that most tanks manufactured in first 4 months of 1944 retained the "brown" camouflage after the D-Day until repainted OD during the repairs. So the question is: were such vehicles painted this way or looking for them is like searching for Holy Grail? Cheers Michael

First things first, I should introduce Arlo. He is my 7 year old son who loves cars, cars and more cars! However in the run up to Christmas he spotted Airfix's Cromwell starter set (along with the HMS Victory), at Aldi and popped them on his list for Father Christmas. Arlo will be doing most of the build himself, with a little guidance and help (with the fiddly bits) from me. So here goes......... The kit comes with 2 detailed sprues (with little or no flash), a tiny decal sheet, paint, cement and brush (although I'm planning to introduce Arlo to my old airbrush!). Arlo began by removing the Base and sides of the tank from the sprue, and gluing them together (I wiped off the access glue). Once secure he then attached the smaller front and back pieces. He has now left the glue to dry, the next step requires fixing the tracks in place, we have decided he needs to paint all these pieces before building them. That's it for now, (remember Arlo is only 7, but is really enjoying the build so far.) Thanks.
