  1. I put a Tamiya gloss coat over my model before decals and all was fine. I then airbrushed Tamiya XF-86 over the model to give a matt finish but my decals in particular have faded significantly and the black decals for example appear more grey than black. I have overlayed the rest of the decal sheet to show how bad the fading is. This hasn't happened to me before and I'm not too happy with the finish and would even be happier with it back in gloss than its current state so I'm wondering would giving it a new clear coat undo this? Thanks in advance for any help!
  2. Hello modellers, I just ordered a few things from ebay and scale model shop as well as an Aoshima aventador SV. The main things I am interested in with my order include a can of Mr super clear gloss clear coat and the tamiya polishing compound set. I am in the UK but managed to find the tamiya compounds at a reasonable but still quite expensive price. I understand that a clearcoat should be sanded to create a smooth surface and get rid of orange peel and then the compounds will buff out and remove scratches giving it a great shine. 3 questions: 1. Are the tamiya compounds the best and if not should I get some meguiars or something else? 2. Does anyone know of a good hobby store near london? 3. Can the compounds be used safetly on a 1k clear like mr super clear or is it too easy to burn through?
  3. So I recently bought Tamiyas’ X-35 semi-gloss clear , I applied decals onto my model and topped it off with mr mark softer , should I add a semi-gloss clear coat above the decals ? or are there any problems I might face? Are there any extended benefits?
  4. Humbrol Clear (125ml) I should start this review with an apology to Humbrol. I’ve had this product in my possession for other two months but haven’t been able to write this review. This is not without good reason though, as I prefer to use a product of this type before reviewing it. Modelling opportunities have been very limited recently, so I haven’t had the chance to do so. I’ve finally managed to get out to the workshop and fire up the airbrush, so here is the review. Humbrol describe this new product as a thin, clear varnish that goes on clear and stays clear. Presumably that means it is not prone to the yellowing that can be a feature of some spirit based varnishes. Judging by the name, this product is intended as a replacement for the much-missed Johnson’s Klear floor polish that was beloved of many modellers all over the world until its withdrawal and replacement a few years ago. I’ve only used this varnish with my airbrush so far, but I can vouch for Humbrol’s claim that it dries to a low gloss finish which can be improved by the application of further thin coats. This is actually an important point, because if you give in to temptation and spray too much onto your model at once. It will pool and cause an uneven finish. A high gloss can be achieved by more judicious use of the product. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to try dipping canopies in the product, but I hope to try this soon and will update this review with the results. Conclusion From personal experience, I would say that this is an interesting and useful product. I have to confess that I never really got to grips with Klear as a varnish, but find it indispensible for improving the clarity of canopies. First impressions of Humbrol’s Clear are positive, and hopefully this will turn out to be a worthy successor. Review sample courtesy of
  5. Hi Any1 has idea how to apply Tamiya TS-65 clear pearl color to my scale model? Do I need to mix it with the paint or do I apply it on the model after applying desired color? Cheers Vojta
  6. Hi, I must admit I'm new to the airliner branch of the modelling "business" so, I started wondering why most models are shown with decals replicating windows. I realize older models come with no transparencies so there is no alternative to this but even newer kits have in many cases their windows filled and decaled over. Is the missing interior the only reason? Is painting the interior black and maybe inserting a piece of card behind the cabin not an acceptable solution? To me personally, the decals look unrealistic so, I'm planning to use the clear parts and probably paint their back/inner side black. Would that work or am I missing the obvious here? Many in advance! Cristian
  7. I have recently purchased Humbrol Clear Coat Satin varnish. I'm planning on spraying it with an airbrush soon. Does anyone have any tips or advice when using it? How difficult is it to clean the airbrush after using it? And what do you use to clean the airbrush? On a similar note, what is best for cleaning Klear out of an airbrush? I'm wary that some cleaning products perish rubber and may eat at the o-rings in an airbrush. Many thanks in advance!
  8. Hi Has anyone tried spraying Zero paints 2K Clear over Tamiya TS Spray and if so what kind of results did you get. I have recently started using the 2K clear from zero with their own paint and the results are excellent but I would like to try it over Tamiya TS spray cans (decanted and airbrushed) as I have tons of cans of the stuff. Many Thanks, Jay.
  9. OK - I'll admit it, I'm a bit if a fan of Humbrol's Clear although I read here that others would not even apply it to a raging fire that was only meters away from their modelling stash!! Just wondering if anyone knows when the Satin & Matt Clear versions are likely to be released? Humbrol's 2014 range was announced in late December and I don't believe that any of their new products have been released as yet. Cheers.. Dave.
  10. Hi I am looking for some tips. No matter what I do I keep getting little particles of dust or what ave you, caught up in the klear coat or varnish. It's very minimal and only noticeable on very cruel close Inspection but drives me mad on white aircraft. Does a anyone have any tips on applying a flawless varnish to white surfaces ? Cheers Rob
  11. Bit of a strange one here! Managed to get a couple of bottles of the new Humbrol Clear from Modelzone as part of their clear out sale a couple of weeks ago. Have just applied the second coat to my Academy F-86F which has been painted using Humbrol Metalcote. Time between each coat of clear being about 3 hours after giving the Metalcote 24 hrs or so to go off. Have now found the Clear has removed some of the Metalcote from the port wing upper surface but nowhere else!! To say I'm not best pleased is an understatement!!! Looks like the wing needs totally stripping and starting again!!
