  1. Hello Fellow Modelers! Back to the forum to present to you a kit that took me ages to build! I have grafted the greek brand "Grand Model" TF-102 resin nose to the F-102A Meng model. During that conversion, I discovered a lot of problems and inaccuracies, both from Meng and GM... The greek product is completely weird in size and proportion, (nose shape, intakes, canopy...), very disappointing. If glued straight to the cut Meng fuselage, the size of the aircraft is one centimeter longer than expected! Crap! The Meng model is far from being flawless, among the mistakes are the panel lines which are too deep and wrongly positioned for some of them. To add a little more spice to the build, I redid completely the missile bay, which is also inaccurate. The list of changes and modifications is too long to be posted here, if somebody is interested, the history of the work is there: https://www.master194.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=124329 . (Unfortunately it is in french.) Here are the photos, supposedly showing a TF-102A case X from the 431st FIS based in Zaragosa, quite attractive with the "Satan Angel" face on the tail. (bigger than the one on the single seaters): The real one (I found only two BW photos): Mine: As a conclusion, too much efforts and works for a disappointing result, I still find out that there is something weird somewhere... When Hasegawa, Tamiya or Meng will put one on the market??? Thank you for watching, critiques most welcomed!
  2. Just finished it last week, having started around May 1, I took this model out to the Cameron Airport yesterday. Working on it in fits and starts, I finally got her across the finish line. It is the 1990 release of the 1/48 Convair F-102A from Monogram and it marks number four of of my completed Century Series fighters, alongside the Monogram F-100D and RF-101B and the Testors F-104A. I still have a Monogram F-105 and F-106 in the stash but honestly, I don't think I'll be able to crowd them all together on one shelf. Those are pretty big birds! I based this one on a photo I found in a Century Series book. I was drawn to its rather unusual "silver dope" finish and found a set of Pro-Modeler decals for an Idaho Air Guard plane almost just like the one in that single photo, circa 1967. One of the drawbacks to that scheme was matching the lime-green color of the Idaho marking for the wing fences. That challenge turned out to be easier than expected and I got pretty close. Many photos of Delta Daggers show their brake doors painted in a different color. Since I had custom mixed enough green, I exercised a bit of artistic license and painted this one's brake doors in that same green. "Authentic" or not, I like how it looks. It is almost all OOB except for Eduard seatbelts, and a bit of seat plumbing I added, and an added antennae just aft of the canopy too. The drop tanks in the photo were ADC gray with polished tips and ends but I liked how the ModelMaster Chrome Silver looked and left one in all-over silver; we'll just say it's a replacement tank. 😉 The aircraft is painted with Humbrol Metal Cote matte aluminum and finish coated with a semi-gloss clear. I had a few little boo-boos in the topside silver and after it was clear-coated, I tried to touch them up. Bad idea. They looked terrible; but I decided to mask off the areas and square them up. Then, I cut-out card-stock masks to clear-coat those squares. It looks much better and perhaps represents "touched up" spots. The insignia decals are from the 1990 kit, while the Idaho specific decals are from the 1996 Pro-Modeler sheet. I over-coated them all with MicroMark decal film and used really hot water. They all went on without drama. The kit itself is challenging in several areas. I did more filling and sanding on this model than I've done in years. It was also a bit awkward to move around; I had two different "jigs", one for topside work and another for the bottom. I added a fair amount of ballast around the cockpit area to avoid any tail-sitting. In my opinion, the hardest part of the assembly was the multi-part main landing gear. I had fretted about those brake doors but that stage went together really well. All said, I like how she looks and I'm glad I tackled the project. But, I believe I will wait a while before starting another Century fighter! Thanks for stopping by and having a look! Have a wonderful weekend everybody! And here are a couple photograph of actual Idaho Air Guard F-102A fighters, one is this aircraft and the other a squadron sister:
  3. Hello all this is my 1/48th Revellogram F-102 Deuce. When i came back to modeling in 2014 i searched high and low for one of these. It became my proverbial “unicorn” model. I was so happy when Revell repopped these last year. I had bought the decals two years prior in anticipation of finding a kit. The Decals represent a Deuce from the 431st Fighter Squadron SAC Zaragoza Spain in 1961. Without further talk i present to you my deuce. A photo with my N.A. F-100D an original Monogram release. That makes 3 of 6 Centuries that i need for my collection. I already have an F-104 in my collection. I just need a VooDoo, Thud, & Dart to finish of the series. Here’s a link to the build if you're curious. Please feel free to Question, comment, or joke ? Dennis
  4. And for number 2.......... Ok this GB is for what could be described as the start of the golden age of US aircraft design from the 50’s to the early 60’s, the “Century Series” aircraft. A bit of something for everybody here with the main types everyone knows and a couple of experimentals for those who like to be different! F-100 Super Sabre F-101 Voodoo F-102 Delta Dagger XF-103 Thunder Warrior F-104 Star Fighter F-105 Thunderchief F-106 Delta Dart YF-107 Ultra Sabre XF-108 Rapier XF-109 Sorry the F-110 Spectre was renamed/numbered F-4 Phantom and the F-111 Aardvark is a bit too late. As for the F-117 don’t ask! I think probably everyone has one of these in there stash, if not they’re easy to get hold of and there’s tons of aftermarket stuff to keep all sorts of builders happy! 1, trickyrich - host 2, Starfighter 3, jb65rams 4, hythe 5, Swamp Donkey 6, Mish 7, Julien 8, hgbn - co-host 9, Paul J 10, AndyC 11, Arniec
