  1. Dear fellow modellers. Here is my most recent creation. The rather excellent recently released Bristol BeaufortMk1 in 1:72 scale. Built OOB with a slight departure from the kit decals. This is a sort of 22 Squadron aircraft. I've done it without the torpedo fit but as a land based medium bomber. A What If of sorts. I did find a reference to 22 Squadron being in the North African desert from early 1942. With this in mind I elected to do it in RAF Desert colours. I liked this kit very much. I believe it's a very recent moulding? There is a ICM offering in 1:48 this might be one for me to buy in the near future too. I hope you like it posed on my desert diorama base, which I made for a previous 1:48 Hurricane Trop . Paints are AK with some MIG silvers where necessary. Sorry I didn't do a WIP for this one. Did most of the work between meetings at work ! Well that's my story and I'm sticking to it! I hand painted the underside Azure blue. The top cammo pattern was using my airbrush and I used the blue tack sausage method to deliniate the two colours. I used the painting guide from the kit instructions and lightly ma4ked with pencil the pattern. I'm quite astounded this has received some many likes so far. Thank You all so much. Since i took the pics i've tidied up the paint on the glazing bars on the cockpit. So i'm a bit happier with the end final result now Regards, Andy A few of the requisite 'Vintage' shots.. Underside - i do like the RAF Azure Blue.
  2. I have finally got round to taking some half decent photos of a commission build I've had on the go, on and off for a couple of years now. Peter Nesbit, nephew of Roy Conyers Nesbit contacted me back in 2015 asking if I could build him a Beaufort L9878 that Roy would have flown in as a navigator on 217.Sqn. It has been a bit of an honor for me that Peter asked me to build this for him as he wanted a model that would be a dedication to Roy and his WW2 exploits. The idea is that the aircraft has just been stood down from a possible mission which includes the torpedo attached. I have opened the clear canopy as the pilot would have been prepared to disembark out the top. Peter also wanted a diorama built including vehicles and equipment from the Airfix RAF Bomber re-supply set. I will probably have a go at the diorama even though I have never attempted one before, unless there's anyone else who could contact me who could do it justice! It has taken a lot longer than originally planned, but Peter has kindly been patient with it. In that time I have completely rebuilt the interior providing as much of the main interior details as possible including pilot, navigator and rear gunner. I still haven't got an airbrush yet, so everything has been applied with a good quality hairy stick apart from the matt coat which was applied from a Humbrol rattle can. The only aftermarket parts used were some white metal guns from the spares box and marabu etched landing lights. I had originally intended on using a vacform canopy which is intended for another kit, but used the landing light vacform cover only. I'm making no apologies for absence of a build thread as I don't always have the camera to hand when building and like to make most use of my limited modelling time to fettle with the kits as much as possible. Many other kits have been started and completed along the way, but this one has been a labor of love. Will be sad to see it go. Also no apologies for the number of images. Thanks also to Frank for the invaluable CD of images from the factory floor, for the interior. 3. Here I present my attempt at the Special Hobby Bristol Beaufort. It was quite a challenging build, and its a bit rough in places but overall I am pretty happy with it. Brush painted with Tamiya and Italeri Acrylics. Finished as an aircraft from 217 Squadron RAF based at Luqa, Malta 1942. According to the markings information with the kit, this aircraft was shot down by a Ju 88 on June 20th 1942. Thanks to all those who followed the build and gave me support and advice. Build thread can be found here. Thanks for looking. There is a map and lamp in there!
  4. With the long summer break almost upon us down under I thought it was time to have a go at something a little more challenging. I picked this up at the swap'n'sell at the local model expo awhile ago and set it aside for when I had time to do it justice. Oh-oh - resin and etch I intend to build it as a Mk1a, DD959 Q of 217 Squadron in Malta, 1942. The colours sound attractive - extra dark sea grey/dark slate grey camouflage over azure blue. My first task will to read carefully this build by @Navy Bird and this one by @CedB for inspiration and hints (I hope they don't mind a little plagiarism). I am also experimenting with using Flickr as Photobucket is getting so frustrating to use - hopefully the photos work out OK.
  5. When 'the young Procopius' returned from his trip to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the BoB he very kindly sent me 'a nice pair of Bristols' (thanks again PC!) as a thank you for driving him around our fair land. Here he is after the flypast at the BoB Memorial near Dover: Untitled by Ced Bufton, on Flickr The sort of smile you get after seeing your first Spitfire in the air, over Dover, with Hurricanes. A great day. Since then I've been honing my skills, or at least documenting my limitations, and I now feel ready to tackle the first one, Special Hobby's Beaufort: I also note that Stew's got hold of one recently, so I can bash the kit and then he can show us how it's really done later Sprue shots (some parts detached but the bag was sealed so I'm confident it's all there)... Separate prop blades, resin and PE. Right. Not too scary then... I've chosen the 22 Sqn. scheme as it has a nose turret. What a baby...
  6. I'm currently in the middle of detailing the interior of a Mk.1 - L9878 MW-R to be precise. I have been approached by Peter Nesbitt nephew of Roy Conyers Nesbitt and I've been adding as much interior detail as possible with the aim of having some pilots in situ. The plan is to have the aircraft as if it has been stood down from a sortie. It will have the torpedo in place but the idea is to have as many hatches open ready for crew egress. I know about the port side fuselage hatch, but I'm also aware of the escape hatch in the nose underside. I haven't seen any b&w photos of this hatch being open, so would it be appropriate to have it open? Also what other hatches would be open while the aircraft is on ethe ground? Martin
  7. Hi, I made this model many years ago - there was no other Beaufort in 1/72 than Frog/Novo. The kit has lot of flaws. I was comparing shapes with plans (thanks KRK4m for supporting me here with good literature and help in research in Cracow's Museum of Aviation). Many details were reshaped - I remember first of all: enlarged cowlings, other engines, propellers, enlarged horizontal tails, new main canopy, changes in turret, new (scratch) undercarridge and larger tyres and many other small improvments... Markings are presenting machine L9965/T of 217 Squadron RAF during its serving in Malta, Luqa airfield I think, in summer 1942, when she was painting in dark and light Meditteranean Blue camo - as some experts belive (agin thank KRK4m for suggesting me this paiting scheme). I have to add - I am still like it, after 20 years from making. I hope you find it interesting as well Comments and criticism welcome Regards Jerzy-Wojtek
