The 'triple flying deck' aircraft carrier Akagi of 1929 must have been one of the most extraordinary ships to encounter on the sea in its day. This approach was inspired by the experiments of the Royal Navy with Furious, Courageous and Glorious. The system allowed aircraft to be launched and land at the same time. Turned out people weren't too keen on starting their take off run inside a hanger! This is the 1/700 Hasegawa kit. I spent a lot of time trying to improve the sponsons with PE and referring to photos on the AJ Press Akagi vol 1 book to get the fit right for 1929 before the island was added. Building and painting the biplanes with Flyhawk PE took about a week - dratted things! There is a Hasegawa PE set for those lattice flight deck supports. Unfortunately they don't mate well with the hull, so lots of extra work -gurrrrh. I used lycra thread as the cross bracing between the supports. Hope you like it? Andrew
