  1. Afternoon all, managed some time to take some pics of the latest build. Bit of a crash build......build a bit and dash. Here's some quick pics, and sorry for there being no build blog on it. I have a few more hours to finalise as the top section and lower hull are still un-attached for the painting, so I can't add the exhaust etc until I can marry together after painting and add final details. Really nice kit as always from Tamiya, fell together - no issues anywhere. The Aber set was very basic and didn't fit in many places. The set was for Tamiya, but acted like it was for another brand. Anyway, the biggest disappointment was the R-Model tracks. Picked them up cheap (£20), but they require the CNC'd pins but came with wire like Friuls, but for the life of me I could not find any that were specific to the 38(t) tracks. So a little mud should be OK to cover up the lack of bolt heads. Interesting thing to note, neither the Tamiya kit or the Aber upgrade set mentions or supplies the little piston thingy behind the gun lock. Had to build it from scratch with brass tube and some bits of PE from the box of spares. Should have it finished in a week of two........then it's in line for a prime and paint job , so catch you all again soon..., and I'll try and be on more than I have been....
  2. Afternoon all. Well it's been some time since I was on the forum due to my bench being dismantled and closed down for house renovations, so did absolutely no modelling it seems since way back in June. Now everything is back in place, I'm getting back into it. I did have a plan to start the Takom full interior Jagdpanther G2, with all the bells and trimmings from barrel by Aber and PE by Voyager......but, I just couldn't face the multi phased construction with painting in the required stages as the build progressed......so after a dig I came up with this one. The Dragon kit from 2002 of the early version Nashorn. I quite like open top pieces as the opportunity for PE upgrading and up-detailing is wide. Sd.Kfz.164 Hornisse (Nashorn, Early Variant) Dragon No. 6165 I have the following Eduard PE set's to go with it, so it'll be a long build, but I'm OK with that. Eduard No.35618 Hornisse - Kisten und Bodenplatte #1 Eduard No.35606 Sd.Kfz.164 Hornisse (Nashorn) - Interior/Exterior Update set. ABER 35L-128, BARREL for GERMAN SPG NASHORN - fo DRAGON MODEL, 1:35 I also have dug up an Eduard set from the bottom of the stash that is actually for Shanghai Dragons very early Hornisse from 1992. I can't imagine the parts can't be fitted to their newer version. I won't be getting the 1992 version, so chance to use up a large part of the set here and there to back up the 35606 set. Another new thing on this build will be the first time in soldering the PE where required. Invested in a super fine blow torch with soldering tips etc, and liquid flux. Just now have to get a soldering mat and I'm ready to go. Well, off to make a cuppa and sit down to study instructions and make some notes...have a good day all and chat soon. Regards Simon.
  3. Afternoon all I've decided on my next project. Tacoma's new Jagdpanther G2 (Full Interior). One of the main reasons for choosing this kit, in spite of the large stash of kit's waiting to be started; I fancied a full interior. At first I was looking at a Takom Panther G (full interior) as I enjoyed building the Bergepanther Ausf. A by DEMAG, but then realised that most of the internal work would be lost once it was buttoned up on a standard Panther. I know many out there would say "well, at least you know it's there"...........but I could stomach all that work disappearing. .......so hence the Jagdpanther. I aim to leave the top plate loose and the rear plate with entry hatch, creating a one pice unit. Additionally leave the rear engine access hatch's loose. I'm hoping much will still be on view, as with the Bergepanther, being able to leave the top off as I did Upgrades at present are Voyager PE35996 Jagdpanther G2 Version Basic Set Aber's 8.8cm Two Part PAK 43/3 L/71 Barrel R-Model's Panther (late) Track's with Pins. I'm researching possibly also getting brass turned rounds by Voyager. Problem is that at this point of the war they used steel shell casings, so I'de end up painting them anyway. So might see if the kit rounds work out good enough., and paint them with Mr Color Metal burnishable steel paint. Would be nice if a company came out with metal rounds in something closer to steel. Anyway........ the big downer, I can't start it until late June into July as I'm having to totally breakdown the workbench as the room I'm in is slated for re-decorating and a re-fit......so I'll be painting something, but not in 1:35th scale Until then I'm concentrating on pottering with a few projects, and trying to finish them.......catch you all soon.
  4. Hello and good evening everyone. I'm back.......well, starting to get back into being at the bench after having to withdraw from the GB Panzer IV due to some medical and personal issues to fix; my apologies to everyone who finished and congrats on a great build from all. Even though I didn't drop by any contributions as regards comments etc....I followed avidly on all your builds. Thoroughly enjoyed everyone's progress. My medication prevented me from being able to positively contribute both at the bench and on here as a forum with some chat etc. ...but I'm back and will slowly get up to speed. I have a few projects on the go that I flit between like a butterfly, medications limit concentration at times............ Here's one that I'm slowly,,,,,very slowly plodding through. I'm working from a walk around set of images from the Ferdinand that's resides at Bovington at present (the one from Maryland). Had some issues with it as regards the Dragon kit itself and the moulding in places as regards fit. The rear sponson construction that I think was added at the time to form the Ferdinand from the prototype Tiger chassis.....took a long time to sand and pair down to make fit and line up the chassis........ There's a lot of weld lines omitted from the kit itself that I'm working through adding, a very intricate PE set from Aber that I'm going for; even through the kit itself is a Smart Kit with PE included. Nice metal barrel and host of metal parts etc to get into over time. SO HERE'S WHERE SHE STANDS AT PRESENT.....WELD LINES TO ORDER OF THE DAY. FRONT GLACIS WITH ADDITIONAL BOLT HEADS SUPPLIED BY MASTERCLUB. One note to add is the front drive wheels. There's no position marker of any sorts provided by Dragon to set them in place. I recommend taking a peek at some actual photos of that area of the chassis to get the position as close as possible. I set them wrong and had to remove and re-set...... WELD LINES ADDED ON BOTH SIDES FOR THE MUD SCRAPERS AND IN REVIEWING THE BOVINGTON FERDINAND, THE ADDITION OF SOME VERY HEAVY WELDS TO HOLD WHAT I BELIEVE IS SOME SORT OF ARMOURED EXHAST COVER....I IMPROVED THE TEXTURE OF THE COVER ALSO WITH SOME ADDITION OF LIQUID CEMENT AND FINALY....EVEN THOUGH NOT REALLY SEEN ARE THE GRILS FOR THE EXHAUST (OR AIR IN TAKE) WELL....can't say when the next update will be....but it's nice to be back on the forum to some extent, slowly is better than nothing....🤗.......catch you all soon...regards....Simon.
  5. Morning all Another one that's languished for some time. I'm hoping around from one project to another based on attention span.... Managed finally to finish all the PE upgrades for this one and just have a few additional items like towing cables etc to look into. I decided with some research to go for something different than the wacky North Africa camo' that is traditionally chosen and went for this........ The cupola isn't then same (due to a big disaster with the taller one in the build... Next step is the primer, and I'll do that when I set up the spray booth again for the Panther G I have on the bench maybe closer to the weekend.... Until next time.....
