  1. This group of figures are based on the painting by E C Fripp "The Last Stand of the 24th" and are produced by Mitches Military Models in 75mm Since seeing the film "ZULU" and later "Zulu Dawn" I have had a fascination with the Anglo Zulu war of 1879, especially the battles of Rorke's Drift and Isandlwana. These are my latest figures based on that war. They are painted with Humbrol enamels mainly, with some Tamiya acrylics used for the brass/gold bits. Fripp's painting, on display in the National Army Museum in Chelsea: Close up of the figures which inspired this vignette: Thanks for looking, Angelo
  2. This Elan13 figure of an RAF Pilot smoking a pipe and accompanied by his spaniel will be my first entry in the group build. It has four parts in total and two of those are the head and the pipe, so it should not take long to assemble (famous last words) and will be a good lead in to the larger second figure I have planned. As you can see, I also have a perfect life model for the dog - if I can get Molly to sit still for long enough. by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr
  3. Raptor Rider Chronos Miniatures 75mm This is a 75mm (approx 1/24) resin figure from Chronos Miniatures. I bought it mainly because I was looking for a decent dino figure to paint (honest), the rider was just an, err... added bonus. Chronos don't give them any names, but I've taken to calling them Maurice and Mindy for no readily explainable reason. Overall the casting was pretty good, although there were a few mould lines and defects to clean up. The only poor part (in my opinion) was the included base, which had a rather poor sculpt compared to the figures. As such I replaced it with a simple scratch built base. I'm fairly happy with the painting although, at this scale, a decent figure painter could probably add a lot more detail. Thanks for looking Andy
  4. Hi all, thought I would post up my first figure RFI. This is my second miniature painting attempt after completing my first, a 35mm resin chibi thing. Overall I've enjoyed the process and like the idea of being able to finish something in a few days instead of the weeks or months it takes me to build a jet or tank (though to be fair I started this figure months ago). This was my first historical subject purely due to scoping out eBay for a relatively cheap 75mm knight from one of the few figure companies I was familiar with at the time. The figure is from Scale75 and is made of white metal. I know a lot of advice could be given as I'm new to this game, and would appreciate any guidance, critiques, or tips for improvements provided. Right off the bat I know there are some seam lines that I didn't fully remove and I could add more shading to the chainmail folds. I'm hoping improved gradients and faces/eyes will come with practice. This was airbrush primed using Mission Models black then white from top as a zenithal light, and then brush painted with Scale75 Scale Color and Vallejo Metal Colors. I used oil paint washes for the metal parts. Thank you for reading and your time! I honestly think the photos look better than the real thing hah, but here they are: And a photo zoomed in to way closer than anyone should be looking from!
  5. Besides putting the finishing touches to the A-10 which is in the RFI Aircraft section I also finished this off today. A good day for finishing American subjects. 🙂
  6. Not only venturing into a new area of the site but finished a project, ok this is my second attempt at painting her but this time I brush painted her with all Tamyia and the white parts got a Mr Hobby pearl top coat. The wood base started life as a pepper grinder. If I did another I would change the helmet angle a bit and not loose the scope from the gun but overall Im happy with her. Your feedback is welcome. Cheers Brian.
  7. Hello! I have had another bash at figure modelling! This time it's Knight Models 75mm Wolverine. I built the figure straight from the box but I ditched the kit base and made my own. Here is how it turned out:
  8. Hi folks, I thought I'd share one of my current projects. Spartacus from Scale75 in, erm, 75mm. He is painted in my usual medium of water mixable oils over acrylic base coat (Vallejo and Jo Sonja). I have still quite a way to go on this one but most of the main areas are "coloured in" and just need a bit of refinement. Comments and critique are very welcome, I could do with the help I'm still learning to use my camera so comments on the photography are also most welcome. Thanks for looking, Billy
