  1. The addition of this build makes a total of 7 builds currently happening on my bench. Egads. I have been slacking off...In any case, this is the very nicely made 1/16th scale Parrott Rifle from the US Civil War, 1861. It was one of the many innovations that points to the Civil War as the first 'modern' war. Terrible, yet true. Here's the wiki link. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parrott_rifle The kit is from Model Shipways very fine Guns of History collection and I have actually built one of their kits, many years ago. It was fun, not so difficult and the finished piece was good to look at. Unfortunately it was lost in a move. This will be a replacement. The box... The plans... Inventory... The pieces. Everything looks good and it is all there. As I recall there was a bit of cleanup of the moulding, but nothing too dramatic. This looks to be of the same high quality. Lovely brass barrel. As it is a metal kit, and something of a larger scale, this is not my usual style of build and so out of my comfort zone. Not really sure if I can remember the type of adhesive to use. CA I suppose. --John
  2. A little while back I promised members something a bit bonkers (A bonkers Martian build? Surely not!). Recently Takom, they should be paying me commission by now, released the Focke-Achgelis Fa.330 U-Boat kite in 1/16 scale. I am fascinated by the subject and have already built it in 1/48 and 1/32 scales, I have the full servicing manual on the type and plenty of reference photos and the real life subject is definitely bonkers. What's not to like?. I have never tried anything in this scale before but intend to super detail the living daylights out of the kit. It should also provide the perfect antidote to fiddling about with 1/720 scale Zeppelins. For those following my Zeppelin thread, there is no need to worry as it will be business as normal there and the tutorial on how to build an easier and better Zeppelin than that provided in the Takom kits will go ahead as planned. thanks for looking. 3. I recently finished up this 1/16 scale mini bust from FeR Miniatures. It was a fun little project that I used to play with painting different textures. Comments and criticism welcomed as always!
  4. Hello fellows, Let me show you my last project: the Volkswagen Kafer (Beetle) from early 50's, in 1/16 Scale, from Revell. This was a little special built, since this kit was already started (...I got it in Wallapop). This added some extra difficulties, as you can imagine. The chasis, engine and other main parts were done by the previous owner, (almost sure a begginer in modelling...), and most of them painted in glossy black. Othe parts, were missing or damaged, as I explain in WIP thread My idea was to depict this old Beetle, in light green - a very common color for this cars-, in some parts rusted and also weathered. let's go! And that's all gentlemen! I hope you like it Here, my thread in WIP, if you want to check it: C&C will be welcome! Cheers! Josep
  5. Hello fellows, Let me show my current WIP. The VW Kafer, 1/16 from Revell, that I started in december 2021: This is a little odd project...: I got this model from Wallapop, because it was already started. It was a 20 euros bargain! As you can see here, the whole model was painted in gloss black (from spray): The former owner didn't do a great work. The seats were poorly painted also... (surely with a brush): Some of the mounted parts, were also partly painted, as the steering wheel... My idea, was to transform this VW Beetle in and abandoned and rusted car, painted in light green. First of all, I airbrushed the whole model with Vallejo Nato Brown 71.249, in order to represent the rusted car's parts. I also used Vallejo 71.042 (Dark Brown), and 71.129 (Light Rust), in order to create more colour variety: Following step: I tried to fix the engine. It was already mounted, but painted in a very simple way. After some carefully re-painted work, It looked like this: The seats were also re-painted, in a cream colour. And weathered with a wash, to achieve a semi-gloss and worn effect. After this, I mounted and painted the doors: The following step, -previous to paint in light green the model-, was to apply Vallejo liquid mask in those spots whre I wanted the chipping effect. And this are the three colours I used for the light green. In fact, the mix was random... Here in the above pic, you can see clearly the spots on the roof, where the liquid Mask has been applied: Starting the chipping proces... The clear parts depicting the windscreen and the rear windows, were missing. So I did them from scratch, cutting a fruit box...the result is quite well 😉 I had to dismantle all the wheels, in order to paint it and weathered. Fortunately, it was easy. Once the wheels were ready, I put together the body and the chasis. This required some extra glue and time: And thst it is all for the moment. This car is almost ready, and I think en few days will be completed. I'll appreciate your comments. And thanks for watching!!
  6. It finally arrived. Now to see what kind of mess I can make. Only 2300+ pieces after all.
  7. Started on 1/16 King Tiger #2, this one with the Porsche turret. So far the tracks fit ok with the default 92 link per side.
  8. Finally got around to trying some of that Tamiya Panel Line accent on this and it works pretty well to highlight the detail and there's lots on this one to highlight with all of the ERA blocks, storage bins and whatever. It's sort of a fictional camo scheme but what the heck, it was fun. It looks factory fresh like it just rolled out but ran through a few muddy spots. Consider it complete so here it is.
  9. Started this yesterday and a pretty simple build other than the 190 odd individual track links with 7 sprue attachments per link and the umpteen dozen reactive blocks to attach one by one. No interior which is really not missed.
  10. This is the old Trumpeter kit in 1/16 scale, turned out not bad. There's a foot of snow and it's -19C right now so it ain't going outside for pics. I got a little snap happy so there's lots of inside pics. Tried my first attempt at some oils, a little burnt umber here and there and hopefully that will get better. It's really subtle and the camera doesn't hardly show anything, of course when you miss something the camera finds it but when you want to show something you can't. That's muck on the fenders and rear plate not burnt umber oils. There are 2 shell racks and about 30 shells inside that turret but of course you can't see anything with it in place and barely anything with it upside down. Another waste, but I know they are there. It's mostly done and here it is.
  11. Here's my attempt at a Panzer IV late Type F2 early Type G hybrid. On the Eastern front, not too dirty but rather dusty. It's -32C here again this morning so no outside pics, bbbrrrrr.
  12. Another new project. I need one in Panzer Grey and this is an earlier version than my Ausf H.
  13. Here's my Trumpeter collection so far. I'm going to have to get a bigger bed, a bigger house, a garage, or as the boss lady says "some other place to put that junk" I have a Jagdtiger coming and for sure want the 1/16 Panther when Trumpeter gets it together so do need more room. I still prefer the King Tiger, it just has something the others don't, the mystique or whatever, too bad it was such an ill-conceived idea. Why not build 20,000 Panthers to try to compete with the 50,000 T-34s running around instead of just 500 KTs and why not use a diesel when gasoline was so short? Here's the mob
  14. Here's a start on a new project. Trumpeter's 1/16 scale Soviet SU-100 Tank destroyer. Finished assembling the engine, strange they have you do that first. Looks good but not any better than the engine in the AFV Club 1/35 T-34, just bigger. Not nearly as many parts in this kit as the Trumpeter 1/16 Panzer IV I just finished and the parts look clunkier, less well finished or detailed, just something doesn't look as good as the previous kit. Of course IMHO that Panzer IV was exceptional, especially for 1/16 scale, must be a newer kit than this SU-100. Also to my disappointment this one didn't come with a metal barrel, of course I should have realized that having read several reviews on the kit. It's started so I'll have to see how it turns out, hopefully not as many mistakes as I made with that 1/16 Jagdtiger I ended up binning.
