  1. After more than 2 years from the start of construction, I finally finished work on the Boeing 787-9 PLL LOT SP-LSC in the occasional 'independent' painting, which was the reason for such a long duration of the project. The first decals I bought in 8A turned out to be extremely thin and curlable and I was unable to lay them down. Only the release by the Banzai S-F of its version of the decals, although not without errors, allowed to complete the project. The model has been slightly valorised: tread cuts in the main landing gear tires, deflection of the ailerons of the horizontal fins, "cables" in the landing gear chambers and on the legs, an element protecting the exhaust from the APU, air inlet covers on the 'belly', several decals from the storage compartment for 'technical' markings . I painted Gunze C - although due to the oversight I also painted the wings white and they should be Boeing light-gray. Tamiya X-22 final varnish, Tamiya "eye shadow" weathering sets. Sorry for so many photos
  2. Zvezda Me 109F-1 - Werner Molders Wk Nbr 5628 This is Zvezda's F-2 backdated to an F-1. The build is based on information on a thread here by JackG I've made some the changes as per the original build by Jack (wing strengtheners, removal of tail stiffeners). The Zvezda kit is reputed to be the most accurate shapewise of all the current F's on the market however I found the engineering to be a bit frustrating. The upper/lower wing joins don't match existing control surface lines and getting a smooth clean join is time consuming. In addition, the air intakes requires drilling out, the mass balances need to be added and the pitot really needs replacing. Finally the canopy is made of some odd material that doesn't polish well (it's a bit like vacform clear plastic) and I ended up having to future it which is something I tend to avoid. The general markings are from various sources though the Stkz and rudder markings are from Printscale. This aircraft is quite interesting as it is the 1st F-1 and was issued to Molders who operated it during the latter stages of the Battle of Britain. Any RAF pilot seeing it would have been a bit surprised as it would differ a bit from the E's operating at the time (i.e. rounder wing tips).

    Fulcrums

Two of my favourite aircraft are the MiG-29 and Su-27. I've been smitten with the MiG-29 ever since I saw it for the first time at Farnborough in 1988, and have fond memories (and not enough photos) of Fulcrums and Flankers at Farnborough and Fairford in the 90s. So I can't explain why I've never built a model of either of them. Fast forward 30-odd years and a Zvezda Su-33 came into my possession (thanks again @vppelt68). That prompted me to think about all the Flankers and Fulcrums I want to build and, having gone a bit mad in lockdown, I built up a stash of them in 1/72 pretty quickly. So time to get building. I'm starting with two MiG-29s, and will get onto a couple of Flankers next. These are the Zvezda and Revell 1/72 MiG-29S (9.13) Flanker C - actually the same kit although I've found Revell has made at least one change to it. Box shots: These are going to be fairly quick builds with no aftermarket apart from decals. I have a couple of Linden Hill sheets and a Begemot sheet so lots of options to choose from. One of them will be in Uzbekistan colours, not made a decision on the other but I'm leaning towards a Soviet aircraft from the late 80s. I've made a start. The Zvezda instructions have you assemble the main airframe components first, then move onto the cockpit. The unconventional build order works in this case as the cockpit tub is moulded into the upper fuselage. So I've got the fuselage and wings assembled pretty quickly, I've also got started on painting some cockpit bits but not photographed them yet. Here's how they're looking tonight: thanks for looking Julian
  4. Finally...this is the last of my 2019/2020 builds so far. The TU-204 was first flown in 1989 and it was planned and designed to replace the TU-134 and TU-154. It had the latest technology inserted back then and was even offered to the western market with a Rockwell-Collins cockpit and RR 211 engines, like the Boeing 757. The TU-204 can be compared to the Boeing 757 in size. Its not a copy as some may think but it has a slight resemblance to the 757. For some reason,it received not many orders and was build or still is build only in small numbers. Zvezda released both, the passenger version as well as the cargo version of this airliner. Its a wonderfully designed kit with nice detail and perfect parts fit. The attractive livery of Transaero Cargo is probably the most time consuming part of the build. As it was with the MC-21 kit,Zvezda gives wrong numbers for Tamyia paints on their painting guide. They state the underside to be painted with clear orange.I tried that on a sprue and it looked awefully wrong. Photo references showed it more orange/red. I found it with Testors dayglo orange. If painted over the grey of the rest of the fuselage it comes pretty close to the real thing. The grey part is correctly stated. After painting I applied 2 coats of Gunze Aqueous Premium Gloss and another 2 coats after the decals were applied. The decals are superb and provide all nessecary details and stencils. Cheers
  5. A brand new airliner kit from Zvezda. The russian company releases some really nice airliner models and is also pretty fast with new types. The MC-21 is still in flight tests and Zvezda already released a supperb kit this year in the markings of the first prototype. It is about the same size as the A321 and is build with the latest technology. The model is highly detailed, and all parts fit perfect. It also features a cockpit wich can be clearly seen through the big windows. I did not use a bit of filler anywhere. The only flaws I found were in the paint guide and on the otherwise excellent decal sheet. Zvezda gives color numbers either for their own range of paints or that of Tamyia. Unfortunately they state the wrong number for the blue part.I checked the number they provided with the Tamyia paints and instead of blue, they ask the modeler to use a greyish blue, wich is completely off.I found that Revells blue 52 is a perfect match for it.Its the same color as the MC-21 letters on the fuselage. The decal set provides the red stripes that run arond the fuseage. But somehow they are designed in the wrong shape. I decided to paint that red stripe as well. The rest of the decals fits perfectly and altogether it is a wonderful model that almost builds up by itself. Now I hope some aftermarket decals with the first operators of the type will appear soon,so I can get me some more examples of this nice kit. Cheers

  9. Zvezda 737-800 straight from the box but with 26 Ryan Air decals. Flew on this to Lanzarote in 2019 - remember when we could do things like that? Steve
  10. It's my first GB! And hopefully completed model number four. After finishing my aggressor F-16 in a similar scheme, it's time for a dark Flanker. Going for the one on the box, the bottom marking. Since I couldn't choose between the blue/gray and the eggplant, here's the best of both worlds. As this is an interceptor GB, I'll forego the Kh-31s and cram it as full of R-73s, R-77s, and R-27s as it'll hold.
  11. Hi All! ZVEZDA (ex-Dragon) MIG in 1/72 My psychiatrist took a drink and left me alone. So I was able to do what I want for a while. Here is the result. Painted Gunze. Enjoy watching!
  12. Hey folks, i'm back haha 🙂 after finishing my easyjet 319, i'm now sharing with you a WIP of two A320s. One is a custom order from someone, the other one is for myself. The custom ordered one will be AerLingus and my own will be holiday airlines, an airline most of you probably haven't heard of. Basically my friend @Berko suggested to do something from turkey, which initially wasn't my preference, but then i remembered that i flew to turkey in '94 and in a split second the choice was made. Since i have a weird tendency to build rare birds or things that are neither popular nor beautiful, this color scheme might not wake up everyones interest. People who know me, are aware of whats coming. Lots of scratch builds, details, corrections and ways of doing things a bit different maybe, which doesnt mean it is right or good, but my aim is always to improve my model skills and to share stuff here, so you can supply me with tips or ideas and vice versa. Less talking, here come the first pics. First i was a bit bored and i started with the fuselage halfs. So the surface is made for painting it with a brush, very coarse and not airbrush friendly. I initally filled the main door oulines with superglue. The rear doors are rectangular - which is completely wrong. seems like the CAD designer forgot them. After filling i sanded the stuff and now the surface is nice and the door outlines are gone. this way i dont have any conflict with the door decal dimensions. next up is the flight deck. Added thrust levers and a proper anti glare shield.
  13. Is it me, or are the Zvezda 747-8 engines and pylons more accurate than the Revell ones? There just seem to be a lot of little differences that make them look more accurate but that just might be me not looking at the right reference pictures.
  14. Hi folks, Sorry for another one. Some may have saw that I just bought this: ... partly because I like Russian helicopters but also because I'd seen Quinta Studio's new 3D-printed-on-to-decal-paper cockpit parts and wanted a relatively low-risk project to try them on. It arrived yesterday, and today I made a start. To use the Quinta Studio set there are a few of small consoles the instructions say you have to scratchbuild in order to attach the printed parts to, so I started with that. I've then gone about prepainting most of the interior and fiddly bits. I'd planned to just chuck this together but have ended up painting all the interior parts including the engines. Tomorrow I can begin assembly.
  15. This is the first Panther kit I've built since, oh, 1983 or so. As the box says, this is a snap-fit kit, but it is certainly not simplified: Almost 100 parts, despite each track being molded as a single piece of hard plastic, and the inner banks of road wheels molded as single parts, as some manufacturers are wont to do in this scale. This subject has the very early style of bow MG housing, correct (I assume) for an Ausf.D model at Kursk, which is what the kit represents. I've already start on this. The real detail is in the suspension. Like the Panzer III, Tiger and Tiger II (but not Panzer IV), the Panther had a complex torsion-bar suspension, with the road wheels being staggered, those on the right side being ahead of those on the left*. The Zvezda reproduction of this is way ahead of the Revell kit, IMHO, with each road wheel arm being a separate part. *Not the other way around, which I had assumed, as that is the norm. The next step is to paint all the wheels, lower hull and tracks. The tracks are designed to attach in such as way as to reproduce the "sag".
  16. Hello I have finished the 1/72 Zvezda Sukhoï Su-57 kit. I have chosen No 511 prototype as it has likely operated form Russian bases in Syria and I have found a couple of pictures of her. The build is easy as with every new aircraft kits form Zvezda. On the other hand there is nothing for the pixelated camouflage except a wrong scheme on the instruction sheet. So I used my Silhouette Portrait to make masks and get a better camouflage scheme. Both colors came from the Tamiya Lacquer Paint range and how I saw them on the available pictures.. Patrick

  18. Shenyang J-5 (MiG-17 'Fresco-A'), '2310', pilot Pham Ngoc Lan, 921st 'Sao Do' FR, Noi Bai, 3. April 1965 'First Kill' This early Shenyang J-5 (license built MiG-17 'Fresco-A' by the chinese), number 2310, was flown by Pham Ngoc Lan on the 3rd of April 1965 when the first recorded VPAF kill was achieved. This happened over Thanh Hoa province and Pham Ngoc Lan claimed to shot down a F-8E of VF-211 flown by Lt Cdr Spence. But in fact, Crusader was only badly damaged in this incident and Spence made an emergency landing at Da Nang. - - - - - - Kit: Zvezda Soviet Fighter MiG-17 "Fresco" (#7318) Scale: 1/72 Aftermarket: Master pitot tubes & guns, Eduard brassin main wheels, Eduard PE Paints: Vallejo Model Color, Model Air & Metal Color, Tamiya Lacquer Weathering: Flory Models Wash, Mig streaking effects Decent all-around good kit from Zvezda (originally from Dragon). 20. Hello, This is my latest build. Superb kit with wonderfull livery. I love it!
  21. One of the many activities before, during, and after the classic Battle of Britain period was the continuous effort of the Luftwaffe to disrupt shipping and try to stem the flow of supplies into Britain via convoys. Right after the French Armistice, 22 June, to 10 July 1940 aerial skirmishes occurred over the English Channel between RAF Fighter Command and the Luftwaffe, operating from airfields in German-occupied Belgium and France. The aerial battles gradually escalated as German operations moved to destroying Channel shipping—termed the Kanalkampf phase—and then Fighter Command defences in what became known as the Battle of Britain. On 29 July 19:25, III./StG 2 Ju 87s led by Gruppenkommandeur Walter Enneccerus sank the destroyer HMS Delight 13 nautical miles off Portland. The ship was crippled and on fire, as the Stukas left the scene unchallenged and the sinking Delight made for the coast off Portland. The destroyers HMS Vansittart and HMS Broke rescued 147 men and 59 wounded but 19 of the crew were killed. The burning vessel remained afloat until 21:30, when there was a large explosion and it sank. The Admiralty withdrew all destroyer flotillas from the Channel and ordered no convoy to sail the Channel in daylight. Kit: The Zvezda 1/72 Ju-87 is allegedly a snap-kit, but suitable for normal building and an acceptable alternative for the Airfix Stukas. Sprues & decals, contains the Stammkenzeichen for a 9. staffel StG.2. Only closed canopy, so no need to go completely mental with addons - this will hopefully be a simple build (should be nice after the four uberdetailed Spits) There's a weird pattern on the upper wings? anyways: The paint is on the shaker, and the airbrush is soaking for a deep clean. Onwards!
  22. Il-86 Detail Set (MD14439 for Zvezda) 1:144 Metallic Details The Ilyushin Il-86 is a wide-bodied airliner thathas the NATO codename Camber, which has four engines and can carry over 300 passengers. Zvezda have kitted it in 1:144 with the initial boxing coming out in 2006 with more than a couple of reboxings, and the occasional appearance in a Revell box into the bargain. The set arrives in a resealable foil bag with backing card that has the two Photo-Etch (PE) sheets taped to the front, and the resin parts stapled in place in a small ziplok bag. It is a comprehensive upgrade to the detail of the kit, with a large number of parts spread over the two sheets and small resin parts. It begins with the four engines, which each have a new intake fan made up of three layers and individual blades that should be tweaked to replicate the angle of the real thing, with a tiny resin bullet added to the centre of each one. The nose gear is upgraded with brakelines, hub rims and small resin parts, while the bay doors are replaced with new ones from in-scale brass folded into shape. The main gear has a replacement scissor link folded to shape, brake lines, hub-cap centres and brake details, with new gear bay doors and hinge parts added for extra realism. The bays themselves have additional PE cabling added to the roof on each side, then the captive bay door on the main legs are replaced with a new PE part with attachment points also supplied. The exterior of the airframe isn’t left out either, having many blade antennae, nose light surrounds, replacement wing-fences, AoA probes, windscreen wipers, and flush-mounted vents under the nose and tail. Conclusion The detail provided is exemplary and will bring the kit up to a new level, with instructions that guide you through the whole process. Having a spare of the resin parts will also help in case one pings off into the ether. Very highly recommended. Review sample courtesy of
  23. Hi everybody, I have finished my GAZ Tiger recently, a very nice kit from Zvezda. It was a joy to build, with a very good fit of the parts. Colours from AK interactive, slight weathering with pin/panelline wash, a bit of oil wash, drybrushing and pigments. Build log: Now on to the pics. Thanks for looking! Have a nice day Nick
  24. Wouldn't feel right going through a whole whirlybird GB without at least one appearance from this Russian manufacturer who chose their own route to cancelling torque reaction - who needs tail rotors when you can have twin counter-rotating mains? No idea when (if?) I'll get to this one, but I'm laying down a place holder to give me some impetus to at least have a go. Kit is from Zvezda with a striking painting of the crew mid-rescue. The box doesn't mention the type beyond Helix D but Wiki came up trumps, it's the Ka-27PS, a dedicated SAR version of the original Helix A ASW helicopter. Inside the box you get the full original ASW kit, plus an extra sprue with the new parts needed for this version. Decals are for two versions, the box top one belonging to the Russian Navy's Northern Fleet, and one from a Russian Government rescue service in exactly the same scheme but with a big banner on the door instead of the saltire and polar bear markings carried by the navy. I've had a read of the instructions and there's nothing too taxing in there until the final stage where the twin rotors come together. Think I'll just work through and burn that bridge when I get to it. Andy
  25. Good afternoon all, The latest off the production line: Zvezda's 1/144th scale Boeing 777-300ER finished in Emirates' livery using 26-Decals. This kit is by far the best airliner model I've ever built - it fell together and it's the first time I've ever built a model where not even the tiniest bit of filler was needed. Detail is also very good and a huge step up from the old Minicraft Triple Seven kits. 26's decals were a pleasure, too - all in all a very enjoyable build.
