  1. Hello all I thought I’d show this one next. Its a Revellogram P-47D Razorback i did in foil about a Year ago. I did mine as a war weary squadron hack that has a second seat behind the pilot. I chose to do it in the 356th Fighter Group markings circa july or August ‘44. This was before they got their P-51’s and did the famous Red/Blue Diamonds on the nose. So mine only has a simple Red nose. I chose to use the term “4F” as its the US military term for unfit for duty as the plane’s noseart. I added hollow brass barrels to the guns. For the Invasion stripes they were sprayed before foil on the lowers and fuselage. For the upper wings and fuselage i Dry brushed the black and white. I thought it represented the scrubbing off after they were no longer needed pretty convincingly. And yes some P-47’s wore a fifth star & bar because of trigger happy infantry and AA gunners in the beachhead. Mine being War weary likely didn’t fly over the Normandy area but i figured it was done as a Precaution. Hope you like it.
  2. Not one of my best but not too shabby. The Revell kit straight from the box, painted with Tamiya aerosol 'metallic orange' which is a shoe-in for GM's Sunset Orange. After the paint I airbrushed three coats of Tamiya X22 'clear' then polished it all with Turtle Wax. Nice easy build and looks really nice on the shelf. Next car build is already on the bench - another NASCAR - not far behind are a couple of Tamiya GT types. As ever all questions, comments and criticism are welcome. Ian.
  3. Here's my 1/32 Revell Spitfire. I finished off the build late last week. It was a great kit which went together nicely. Really pleased with how it came out and especially the paint. Brushed with @HATAKA OFFICIALRed Line paints. Weathered lightly with Flory Wash and Tamiya Weathering Sets. Plenty of little errors across the model, but I'm pretty chuffed with how it came out in the end. Enjoy

  7. Hello folks, back with another vehicle project: This time the excellent Revell ’65 Stepside. No chrome, low-profiles or carbon ceramic discs on this one, just good old sheet steel and skinny cross-plies and brakes the size of milk-bottle tops… …built straight from the box and painted in Tamiya acrylics (my own mix), great relaxing build with no vices apart from the bonnet/hood that doesn’t match the contours of the main body – apparently a common problem with this ‘family’ of molds. No matter I thoroughly enjoyed it. As ever please feel free to ask any questions or make any comments or criticisms. More car-builds soon, stay tuned. Ian.
  8. Hi all! I completed the Revell Snowspeeder - It went together pretty well but I messed up in a few places, hopefully the mistakes aren't too noticeable . . . Let me know what you think
  9. Hi all, Kit manufacture: Revell Scale: 1/72 Type: Junkers JU 88A-4 Extras used: OOB except brass rod pitot and EZ line antenna Paints and colours used: Vallejo RLM colours (older type). Weathered with Flory Grime, and oil paints. All sealed with Aqua Gloss and flattened with Xtracylix matt varnish. I finished this one a little while ago but have only just got round to photographer her.A good kit this with generally good fit, but a couple of challenging areas. The wingtips being one of them... Beautiful surface detail though, and a wonderfully detailed cockpit. Here's the pics: That's about it. Thank you for stopping by! As always, comments, criticism and advice is always welcomed!Val
  10. Here's my Revell 1/144 BAe 146-200 finished as G-MIMA of Manx Airlines, using F-DCAL decals. This was my entry in the Made In Britain II group build, WIP thread is here
  11. Hello, Here's my just finished 1/72 Revell Gannet AS.4 in Marineflieger markings. I decided to do it as UA+110, which is preserved these days as UA+106 at the Luftwaffe museum at Gatow near Berlin. Bit of a mixed kit, some nice details, and some crappy fit, especially around the cockpit and clear parts. The tail hook snapped into 3 pieces, and one of the canopies has broken in two on the sprue. Painted with Humbrol enamels. I hope you like it. Thanks for looking, Pete
  12. Here is my Tamiya Tiger1 and Panther and Revell Jagdpanther . The flash has darken the colours a bit ,got the Miniart Normandy Tank Crew to go with the Tiger ,going to weather them later . Just checked i started the Panther in July 2015 ,pretty good going for me ,2 years to finish a kit .
  13. Hi all, So I'm well into an RAF Red Arrows Hawk build and thinking about the final finish - I know they keep these super clean and glossy but would it have any kind of panel lining ? Without, I think it might look a bit toy-like in 1/72... Suggestions welcomed! Cheers, Dermot
  14. Thought I would quickly get something up here before I get to the painting stage of my latest, the Revell boxing of Hasagawa's handsome 190 D-9 in the large scale. I seem to have taken a long time with this one and made life difficult for myself by ever-so slightly misaligning the wing spar which then throws out other areas of the wing to fuselage joint. I managed to get it perfect on only one side, the other side and the under-fuselage insert requiring more work than I would like. As you can see the new technique beign tried out for the first time on this one is a full riveting job The underside with all that engine detail on view And a close-up of all those rivets (which took me forever), not perfect but hopefully will look OK under a couple of layers of paint
  15. New 'prancing horse' project for my daughter... Feel free to ask any questions or make any criticism or comment - may need some 'guidance' with this one, folks. More next week. Ian.

  17. The Boeing 727 was one of the best selling airliners from the early 60s until the end of production in 1984 with 1832 aircrafts produced. Some are still in service today. With so many airlines operating the 727 over the years, there is a great choice of liveries available. Airfix re-issued their 727-200 kit in 2010 and 2012 with nice decal sets printed by Cartograph and Revell re-issued their ancient 727-100 kit in early 2016 in the attractive Germania livery, done by Daco. I gues both kits don't need much introduction,as these have been available frequently over the years. Revell's 727 is probably the most accurate of the two,as they got the nose shape pretty much right and also some other details are better than on the Airfix kit. The wheels are a tad too big on the Revell kit, they are better done on the Airfix version. For my 727 I used the wheels from some Airfix 727 leftovers I found in my spares box. As the Airfix 727s nose shape is not the best,I decided to replace that part by the Daco windshield for the Boeing 737.It fits quite well on the 727 and improves the look significantly. The other thing I changed was the raised panellines on the wings, which I rescribed and I relocated the fence from the back to the leading edges by using plastic card. And I thined the engine exhausts by sanding them down from the inside. The plastic is too thick there. The fit of the Airfix 727 was pretty bad,the re-issues had some badly warped parts, esp.the wings and on one kit even the fuselage halves. The wings bent themselves even more after the halves had been glued together....I tried to correct them as good as possible but its still visible. On all kits I replaced the front gear doors with new ones created from plasticard in the correct size ,as on both Revell and Airfix, the doors are too short. The new decal sets are of great quality printingwise but the Iberia/Aerolineas Argentinas decal set has some serious mistakes. One piece of the aft decals had the blue reversed.Dark blue on the upper half, light blue on the lower part.Luckily I had the right colors to repaint those areas and correct that.Furthermore they forgot that the 727s door arrangement is different on the right side so the logos had to be cut off and relocated to the correct position. Being printed by Cartograph,I was surprised to find such inaccuracies.Even the Iberia set had mistakes which the instruction sheet oversaw as well. The worker was either in a hurry or a complete douchebag Revell's 727-100 is despite its age a nice little kit which is fun to build. It has no open windows, except the cockpit and no clear parts. So the windows need to be filled and replaced by decals. The very nice and detailed DACO decal set provides cockpit windows as well as cabin windows already printed on the cheatline. The sets providedes enough details to enhance the look of the finished model. On the Airfix kits I used decals from my extensive stash as well as from a detail set to further enhance the looks. Painted are all of them with Tamyia pure white from a spray can,Testors and Revell for the grey and metallic parts. It was a timeconsuming but fun project building those 4 727s simultaneously . Enjoy the pics...kitty has made a guest appearance as well.... Boeing delivery line Renton...
  18. Hi folks, I finally decided that my entry for the GB would be Revell's 1/72 BV222 and by god she is massive!! I may live to regret taking on such a mammoth task but what the hell - I'm up for the challenge. As I have a bit of a penchant for flying boats I may as well go all out and instead of thinking small - think big So lets get things started with the usual box art pic to whet the appetite - here goes: I had wanted to get this kit for ages and eventually it came up in the Wonderland Models sale - I ended up getting it for an absolute bargain: You could't say no at that price could you - that would just have been wrong!! As I said this kit is massive and there's an absolute ton of plastic. Just to give you a feel for this I've included the sprue shots below for you: That's my mobile phone to give you an idea of just how massive the fuselage and wings are - on we go: Phew!! I'm in a cold sweat just looking at all that plastic. I think a stiff drink is in order to regain my composure. So I'll go and sort out my sanity and wish you a happy Sunday. Hopefully I'll make a start on her very soon so will be back to keep you updated as soon as possible. Kris
  19. Hi Folk's,it's been a good few month's since I attempted any non flying military subject and as my LMS has a 40% off Revell kit's I thought I would see what was on the shelf and as a lover of soft skins this one caught my eye.I had a good look around a British Army version at the Sunderland airshow and would have loved to do it in British colour's but there seems to be a lot of differences between the German version and our's anyway the NATO scheme should look good when done.At just over thirteen quid it's a lot of kit for the money.
  20. With a few hours to go before the starting gun, time to start my thread. This is Revell's retread of the Matchbox Twin Otter kit, of 1983 vintage. Box art: That rather attractive scheme is not going to be the subject, what with those odd round things hanging off the bottom. The kit's second decal option is for a West Coast Air Twotter in blue and white, an example of which one can see on Airliners.net: http://preview.tinyurl.com/ycp7deeq From what I can see, West Coast kept their aircraft very clean. Sprue shots; Revell haven't gone for the lurid Matchbox colours, so it's all in glossy grey. Revell provide a most bizarre double-ended paintbrush. One end is splayed to oblivion, the other appears to have been dipped in varnish before being sent out. Waiting for tomorrow to kick off!
  21. "Woe to you, oh Earth and sea, for the Devil sends the Beast with wrath Because he knows the time is short Let him who hath understanding reckon the number of the Beast For it is a human number, its number is six hundred and sixty six" - Iron Maiden ("The Number of the Beast") The Aircraft I've always wanted to do a RNoAF viper since I find their uniform grey scheme to be quite interesting compared to the standard viper camouflage used by most countries. I noticed that a lot of their markings started with 6, some were 66x, and I thought... could there be a 666 around there? Being Norway, birthplace of black metal (which I happen to like), I knew there would! Indeed, the RNoAF's 666 is the original 80-3666. According to info from f-16.net, the prudish US engineers refused to work on this plane unless the 666 was covered up. It also happens to be a test bird. I decided to build this aircraft in its original form, an F-16A rather than the updated AM version. Alas, there are no markings out there to do this since Vingtor's "early F-16s" sheet is now OOP. Thankfully, it's "late F-16s" sheet worked well as there were enough 6s and 9s to do the fin numbers. I have read that early RNoAF vipers had dark grey walkway markings rather than black ones, so that would be the only inaccuracy that I'm aware of. The Kit I used the original Revell F-16A boxing which has a Belgian "Spitfire" aircraft on the artwork. It is currently the best representation of a F-16A in The One True Scale. For some strange reason, my copy had some sprues in the older light grey (with a yellow-ish tint) color and others in the more recent standard grey. The transparencies weren't tinted either which is great since 666 had a smoked rather than a golden canopy. I sprayed Tamiya smoke (X-19) thinned at 5:1 from the inside for this effect. Norwegian and Danish vipers come with a searchlight on the starboard nose, necessary since so many missions are over water. I drilled a hole where appropriate and glued some plasticard from the inside so the tiny transparency would stay put. Being a Norwegian viper, I of course wanted to be armed with Penguin anti-ship missiles. Although there is no picture of 666 carrying them, being a test bird it is likely to have done so at some point. I later discovered a picture of 667 carrying a menacing 4x Penguin load, plus 4x Sidewinders. I have no way of knowing if this configuration was ever carried by 666 but it was too cool to ignore. For this, I needed two extra weapons pylons which I took from an older kit that I was planning to send to modelling Valhalla (i.e. the bin). The Penguin missiles themselves were taken from the Hasegawa Weapons Set V and are beautifully rendered and have their launchers included too. The Revell F-16 is relatively hassle free, with an excellent cockpit (no aftermarket needed IMHO), accurate dimensions, and mostly good fit although like many Revell kits, the landing gear is a bit fiddly. Note that the instructions don't say to put any nose weight but although it is not a tail sitter, its center of gravity is quite precarious and does tend to fall back with the slightest nudge, so I do suggest putting in at least some weight (less than 5g will suffice). Panel lines are quite fine but, sadly, Revell didn't bother with any rivets which makes it look a bit dated compared to the amazing new(ish) Tamiya F-16. Alas, the Tamiya can only be built as a block 50 and I'm losing hope that any earlier variants will be released in the near future. Decals All decals including stencils came from the Vingtor "late RNoAF F-16AMs" sheet. The decals are very thin but easy to handle and snuggle in perfectly with Microset/Microsol. The only annoying thing is that they are too crammed into the very small sheet which makes it annoying to cut. I have a love-hate relationship with Eastern European decals (some are far too thin) but these were an absolute joy to work with. Painting/weathering The aircraft was painted with Gunze 36270 while the nose was painted Gunze 36118 (woefully light for the real thing but makes a good viper nose). Norwegian aircraft have their canopies painted black on the edges and this was done as well. Pylons and the centerline fuel tank were painted Gunze 36375. The red/white squadron fin marking was painted manually since there was no decal for it. Thanks to the climate, Norwegian birds are typically very clean, and so only mild weathering was done, with a Humbrol dark grey panel wash and later, some streaking with Windsor & Newton oils. Enjoy! #HailSatan #AveSatanas #nemA
  22. Hi all, Model number 3 while further paint dries on the Higgins Boat build. Another of Revell's "Make and Play" kits, snap together with lights and sound, pre painted. Didn't remember to take picture showing start time, sorry. Completed. It's a good size, looking at the size of the pilot's seat I'd say it was about 1/48 and could make a reasonable base for a detail fanatic. Not bad for a fiver. IanJ
  23. Hello all ... ok im still learning so hope this turns out good. This is The Revell 1/48 F-86D Sabre Dog. I chose the kit markings for the 85th Ftr. Squadron circa April of 1955. They were stationed about 200 miles away from me at Scott AFB Illinois. Kit is a pretty much out of box build. This was my first ever attempt at Foiling a kit. Hope everyone likes it.
  24. Hi everyone, More of a 'what might have been' than 'what if'. In the mid 2000’s in the Republic of Ireland, consolidation of aircraft and responsibilities led to a competition to replace the Air Corps’ 40-year-old Alouettes in the Army liaison role with a new, larger utility type helicopter that could also fulfill a Medium lift role. The competing types for the order were the proven Sikorsky Blackhawk, the Eurocopter Cougar and the Agusta-Bell (now Agusta Westland) AB139 which was originally designed as a civilian machine and at that time had no military users. From what I’ve read, the Irish Air Corps and Army’s preference was the Blackhawk - which members of our Forces (particularly our Ranger Spec Ops Wing), were familiar with having being part of the UN operation in East Timor with Australian Blackhawks and also while on training ops in the US. The Blackhawk’s service record worldwide was regarded as being better than the Cougar. There were also reports that Sikorsky offered a very good deal to the Irish Government which would have brought six new a/c and six reconditioned machines for a very competitive price. In the end, the AW139 was selected and the Air Corps became the first military operator of the type. Six aircraft currently serve with No. 3 Operations Wing. For what it's worth, Agusta Westland have now developed a pure military version, the larger AW149. So here it is, Revell's re-box of Italeri's UH-60A in Irish Air Corps markings. If you're interested, the full WIP build is here. This was the first....and last Revell/Italeri Blackhawk I'll build....really poor fit and general detail and it can't really hold it's own against the newer Hobby Boss kits which I'd rate as being far superior. Oh well, you live and learn! Cheers, Dermot
