  1. Hey everyone, This is my interpretation of "Passion Wagon", a North American P51D Mustang, flown by Captain Charles Weaver of the USAAF, in 1944. Captain Weaver was part of the 362nd FS, 357th FG when he flew this aircraft. It's the Airfix P51D 1:72 kit, finished with Tamiya acrylics and lightly weathered with oils. Awesome decals (which some may find offensive!) are from Kits-World. Thanks for looking. Happy modelling folks! More models on Instagram: drakenmodelling
  2. Good evening everyone, My name is Marcelo Allende, I'm from Argentina, and I want to share in the forum my first finished work in this return to the hobby. Now that I am retired and thanks to that I have a lot of free time, I chose to practice this beautiful hobby again. 34 years ago during that previous stage, (very different from today) in regard to specific materials and the information that was available at the time of assembling a kit; today everything is so different and it helps a lot for the modeller to face a project with much more calm and investigation. For this kit in particular, 35 days of work were necessary to finish it, It is not necessary to talk much about the kit, I think it is well known by all, I was very surprised when comparing it with the models built during the 80's.It is assembled without any additions, just as it came out of the box; i just added some wires in the cockpit and landing gear bays. To paint it I used alclad aluminum and enamels with homemade mixtures. For the weathering I worked with oils, and some brown pigments applied with a brush as well as powdered graphite to shade some areas. Techniques that I had never used before, and thanks to the information published here in the forum, they have opened the doors for me to be able to achieve results that I would never have dreamed of before.. There is still a lot to improve, 35 years is quite a long time, my eyes see less than before but with more practice the planes will be better =). Greetings to all, have a good weekend and excuse my writing because English is not my language...
  3. Hi All! ICM 1/48 Weekend built Painted GUNZE It's difficult for me to take decent photos of an airplane in flight. Sorry Enjoy watching!
  4. While waiting for the paint to dry on a few other projects, I started eyeing the Airfix P-51D I had sitting on the corner of a shelf with no future plans, and conspired to finish it. After looking over @RidgeRunner's various Guatemalan Mustangs, I decided to model #315. The Airfix kit isn't the world's finest to build, owing mostly to the softness of the plastic, but the detail and fit are both more than sufficient. I'll certainly be building more in the future. The Blue tail stripes will follow eventually, just the same as with the PT-17 and AT-6. For now I'm glad to add some variety to the collection. Thanks again to Herb for the decals. Stay safe, Tweener
  5. Got hold of a bunch of Eduard overtrees at a great price, two spits and two P51. As I've got some 1:48 RAF P51 xtradecals left over its RAF livery all the way! Quick start on the wheel wells this evening, first real attempt at busying up with some copper wire. Straight bit of 0.5mm to represent the linkage in the back, then a 0.8mm hole drilled into the floor and into some styrene rod to create a bulkhead adapter. Humble beginnings, but the kit looks amazing and hopefully I'll do it justice!
  6. After an absence of forty eight years I've just finished my first build, Well for better or worse, warts & all here she is. First build & paint in all these years & never used an airbrush before.... Never weathered either so, in truth, it's hiding a multitude of sins & cock-ups. I think that I couldn't have chosen a worse first model whilst learning airbrushing, especially with using Alclad airframe aluminium. However, I'm going to call this my 'practice' piece in readiness for my next build. Some of the weathering is somewhat heavy in places but it's helping to disguise my mistakes I suppose. Admittedly, I did struggle at times due to tiredness & loss of concentration etc but persevered. I welcome honest constructive criticism & advice & opinions from anyone. Regards to you all. 😉
  7. 1/72 Airfix P51-D Mustang starter kit. Okay it's taken me two months on and off (more off than on really) but found it a mix of relaxation/frustration/elation over these dark winter nights. Coloured in with mostly a flat hairy stick and then dirtied up. I throw myself at your mercy! ;-) TTFN Steve
  8. HI All! Just finished my latest build and made a timelapse video about it! This is the new tool kit from airfix - really thought there was a wealth of detail. I feel the RAF paint scheme makes this look like a different plane, it's not as glamorous as the USAAF version (all shiny). I think I did a good job overall, but had a bit of an issue with those yellow decals taking ages to conform to the wings... Let me know what you think! Thanks in advance
  9. Hi, Another archive model from my shelves- this one for sure older that 12 years. This is P 51 D -20 Mustang "Jumpin' Jacques" of 3rd FS, 3th FG, 5th Army USAAF, Philippines-Okinawa 1945, pilot Lt. John E. Young. Currently this painting scheme is in Hasegawa 1/72 box, but here the kit is from Academy and decals by ESCI. NMF by brush. Comments welcome and regards Jerzy-Wojtek
  10. P-51D Self Adhesive Pre-Painted Etch for the hobby Boss Easy Assembly Kit 1:48 Eduard The 1/48 Easy Assembly series of US built fighters are well thought out kits that not only provide a simple introduction to modelling, but with fine surface detail, have the ability to look rather good when complete. With this set from Eduard, beginners or people who haven’t dipped into the world of etch detailing can evolve their skills further. Cockpit detailing is noticeably simplified in the P-51 kit, but it doesn’t have to be now... P-51D S.A Etch Set 49603 Here you get a single fret of pre-painted Self Adhesive Etch that is designed to inject life and detail into your P-51, mainly, but not exclusively the cockpit area. Sidewall detail is absent in the kit, so the main features on the fret are beautifully detailed side panels that simply push into place, no paint, no glue. Several refinements are included for the seat and rear armour, most noticeably the seatbelts which are exquisitely done. A small amount of cutting is required to remove some parts prior to fitment of the seat refinements, so a modelling knife will make this a lot easier. Several additional details including throttles are to be fitted to the sidewalls giving a great 3D finish. The front panel simply fits over the existing part, however the centre console requires the detail to be removed so that the etch replacements including gunsight can be attached. There are some delicate parts, so as well as a modelling knife, a good set of fine tweezers will make your life much easier. Externally, the radiator gets a nice etch cooling matrix and the main gear is treated to some replacement Oleo scissors and door brackets. The drop tanks and rear view mirror get some additional detail and actuators for the aileron trim tabs are included too. Conclusion This is a great set to take a basic but pleasant kit to a new level. There are some delicate parts, so care will need to be taken, but it’s simple enough for a person who hasn’t used etch before to get good results. Whether the concept of using etch aftermarket on such a kit will prove to popular will remain to be seen, however with this detail in the cockpit, you may want to source a vac formed canopy too so that you can have it in the open position to show your work off !
