  1. Trumpeter is to release 1/35th UH-1 Huey kits. - ref. 05111 - Bell UH-1B Huey - ref. 05112 - Bell UH-1B Huey - gunship Source: https://tieba.baidu.com/p/8249037080 V.P.
  2. Hello people! This is my first post of the year, I will be building the infamous 1/32 Revell UH-1D Gunship with the Dominican republic air force paint scheme and configuration, I'll be building the UH-1H FAD 3032, I want to try to do the best I can to get this kit up to today's standards.
  3. Yes, a 1/56th scale plastic kit. Rubicon Models UK Ltd (https://rubiconmodels.co.uk/ & https://www.facebook.com/rubiconmodels) is working on a 1/56th Bell UH-1D/H Huey kit. A curiosity or an attempt to create one standard ? But I am very dubious about this product. Sources: https://rubiconmodels.co.uk/collections/vietnam-1955-1975/products/huey-ah1variant=39611119894622https://www.facebook.com/rubiconmodels/posts/pfbid02R77XQaYfUoh8mHuKJGWXLmswaYqL2JiNJN5dRNFc1nUWF3cb7cJPrrarkXN586Hbl Looks like to be for rivet lovers... 4. A radical departure for me on this one. Well, reasonably radical let’s say…. A helicopter and Vietnam - there’s nothing more synonymous with Vietnam than a Huey, is there? This project has come about through one of the biggest satisfactions I derive from my website, that being form time to time I come into contact with family members of the pilots or units I feature who usually express gratitude their loved ones’ stories are being told, and sometimes offer further information and materials to further enhance the site. In this case, the connection was a little more indirect but it came to pass that I began a correspondence with the son of an Australian soldier in Vietnam wounded in action and desperately needing medivac. His unit was under fire, and quite surrounded; the medivac choppers couldn’t get in to the LZ. Then, an Aussie gunship in full “Bushranger”mode arrived on the scene and laid down a storm of suppression fire sufficiently effective that the medivac could land and get the wounded trooper out. I am building this model of an Aussie Bushranger for the son to give to his father. In using the Italeri kit I have a few modifications and scratch building challenges, but I’m reasonably confident I can manage it. I have also included some Reskit enhancements, which added up with the cost of the kit still has the total come under the price of the Kittyhawk kit, which is rarer than hen’s teeth in Australia anyway. And last night I made a start, beginning with the little kit within a kit of the armoured seats. Made from PE and resin, they are fiddly as all get out but look good when assembled. I still have all the belts and fittings to add but so far so good. As this is a subject I know little about, and scratch building the some of the Bushranger weaponry will be a challenge, all suggestions and corrections are gratefully received! Below are a couple of pics of both the "Ned Kelly" configuration which was essentially the proof of concept and then on the right, the "Bushranger" configuration eventually adopted as standard. Cheers!
  5. The box art from the future (release date: 12.08.2021) - ref. 32114 - US Helicopter Pilots (Vietnam War) quite surprisingly doesn't display a Cobra helicopter but a Huey... Though the question: is a 1/32nd Bell UH-1D Huey helicopter kit in the ICM pipe line for 2022? To be followed Source: https://icm.com.ua/figure/us-helicopter-pilots-vietnam-war/ V.P.
  6. UH-1D Huey 116th Assault Helicopter Company, Vietnam '71 There is no doubt that the Huey will always be associated with the Vietnam War. No 'Nam collection should be without at least one of these beautiful workhorses. Employed in many roles and many different variants I have built a pretty standard 'Slick' troop transport. I actually have another 2 of these on the go - both different again, doors removed, no seating inside etc. I also have pretty much all variants in the stash to be built at some stage. I am really looking forward to the Dust Off version. Not too much weathering or wear and tear on this bird. One thing I did do was to hollow out the front step on the skid as this is moulded as a solid piece. Very quick and simple mod but looks so much better. I have left the side doors off as this was a common practice to reduce weight. Here is an Academy M35 Truck - looking a little too clean for 'in-country'.....!! Cheers all, Phil
  7. Hobby Boss is to release in late June 2020 a (ex-Merit) 1/18th Bell UH-1B Huey - ref. 81806 Source: http://www.hobbyboss.com/index.php?g=home&m=article&a=show&id=159&l=en Test model V.P.

  9. This is my Hobby Boss UH-1B Huey "Gunship". The Hobby Boss kit is an easy pleasant build that only took 10 days, start to finish. But it had a little help. In addition to the basic kit I used: A Bilek color interior. I had never heard of Bilek before and I don't know if they have a relationship to Eduard, but it looked just like and Eduard set. Eduard Mask Print Scale decals. I have used Print Scale decals in the past and been happy with them, but this set and the last one I used were problematic to the point of almost being unusable and I will probably stay clear of them in the future. They are very thin, which is good, but they have no body and stick instantly. This means that once you put them down you have no opportunity to adjust them. If you try they either tear apart of roll up into a ball. This is especially true on the lettering part with clear background, and I had to get the "United States Army" decals from another set because of this. Plus as an added bonus they were badly misregistered. see the tail serial number which should be all black. Mini World ammo belts. The kit gives you several options for armament and I used the M134 minigun. I couldn't see not having some ammo Italeri main rotor and mast. The Hobby Boss main rotor was just a little too simplified for my tastes. As it tuns out they are both 4 scale feet too short. So on to the pictures: Next up is the AZ Models' Douglas X-3 Stiletto. See Enjoy.
  10. Hello everyone , i just finished the Uh-1 from Revell . In 1/24 Scale ! Amazing beast, very huge. Gotta say im very satisfied with the result. Gotta need a bigger place to put it on. The model overall is very nice , good fit. I paint the model with Olive drab color from Mr.Color number 304. And add some White to the mixture to lighten up the model. Decal is the hardest part, but only the shark mouth decal. If you cut the decal in half , it will be better to control it. And the decal on the slide door is tricky, you must apply the decal first then glue the handle on. And the rest is easy. I did light weathering, just add filter and pin wash. Here is the finished model : Thank you for watching !
  11. Hi again all, Inspired by the recent UH-1C RFI I've scanned a few Hueys for your delectation. They are taken at various locations, as marked. I hope you like them. UH-1C/M at Camp Robinson AAF, Arkansas, May 1982 UH-1H at Jefferson City, Missouri, May 1982 UH-1M at Camp Robinson AAF, Arkansas, May 1982 UH-1Hs and UH-1Vs at Dannelly Field, Alabama, October 1980 UH-1V at Forbes Field, Kansas, May 1982 Martin
  12. My newest project is a bit different, maybe not. I have had a 1/24 UH-1B Huey lying around for a few years(bought back when it was $34). I was looking online at forget what, just going further down the rabbit hole. I come across an art project made from an actual UH-1D called Take Me Home Huey. https://takemehomehuey.org/ I'm not American, well I understand my original dad was, but he died before I was born and mum don't talk about it so I don't really know. I have some strange draw to the Vietnam war, I don't know what it is, maybe because I was born a little after the official end of it. Perhaps it's because I grew up hearing about it. Anyway I did want to try to make a D-model from this kit. Turns out it's a bit more than I had hoped. Also there is no conversions for it. I also had the idea to put this on a semi trailer as a fresh restoration or derelict. I also thought of making it a Canadian CH-118 Iroquois. It's a good kit for a 1969 design. This will have the trailer and the Freightliner. I dug around online for whatever pictures of this one and side profile views. I found a couple of ok pictures and some rough when enlarged drawings and did my best to make them 1/24 for a pattern. I made the first mistake of cutting the fuselage in half through the door to lengthen it. Turns out, the door opening is longer and the rear of the fuselage up to the tailboom is moved back and reshaped. The belly is also deeper, the cowling is quite different from the tailpipe shroud forward. I decided to make a rib structure much like a wooden airplane or house walls and then sheet them. After I thought I could have glued on a block of wood and took a belt sander to it. I cut the tail boom off to make it easier to finish the rear joint area without damaging the tail. The floor was started but will be replaced with new sheet plastic. I don't know how yet to remake the texture on the floor. I'll let the first pictures speak for themselves. I have a couple of ideas for reproducing the decals. The real one is a wrap. I've been in touch with the Huey group but I'm still waiting for certain pictures, namely the roof I need, because it's so tall, no one gets that shot but I need it. I'm not sure if it will be 100% accurate when done, but it'll be very close. It is a big model, about 20" just for the fuselage.
  13. A recently-completed pair of Italeri's very build-friendly 1/72 AB-204B/UH-1F, built pretty much out-of-box. The Dutch Navy markings were courtesy of the kit's decal sheet. The Swedish 'air ambulance' markings were based on a photo of a preserved museum aircraft, made up with Internet images and printed as home-made decals from my PC. And my sleek Swedish beauty: A very clean and trouble-free little kit, great fun to build. Hope you enjoy!
  14. Hi guys, here are the final pictures for the Rambo 2 diorama. In the movie, Rambo's Huey gets shot up by the Hind and a fire with lots of smoke erupts in the back left side of the heli. I wanted to recreate the smoke, so by using a product for RC boats I was able to achieve the correct look. Obviously I started out only wanting to build the Hind/Puma conversion model, then I realised I had the correct Huey that was in the movie and things just snowballed into this mega giant diorama that is no way going to fit on anybody's shelf LOL! The plan is that I can take the helis off the diorama and take the helis with the base maybe to a show in the future. I look forward to any comments and/or criticism, finally as Rambo said in the movie to Murdock "Mission Accomplished!". If you want to see my work in progress of this build, click the box below.

  16. Picking up the new 1/48 Kitty Hawk UH-1H and would like to do a 1st Air Cavalry version. Not had any luck finding aftermarket decals................any ideas ? Thanks in advance Paul
  17. UH-1D "Huey" 1:48 KittyHawk Lets face it, IT’S A HUEY! The Bell UH-1 Iroquois is the Iconic Helicopter following its use by the American Army in Vietnam. Thanks to this it can now rank alongside such aircraft as the Spitfire and Mustang, and is recognisable by most people not just aviation enthusiasts. The Bell 204 was developed to a 1952 US Army requirement for a medical evacuation helicopter, trainer and utility helicopter. Originally designated as the HU-1 (Helicopter utility) troops quickly shortened this to Huey and it has stuck ever since. While the original Huey was a success the Army wanted a Helicopter which could carry more troops. Bell stretched the Huey by 41 inches and was able to fit in four extra seats next to the transmission taking the total to 15 including the crew. The extra room enabled 6 stretchers and a medic to be carried in the Medevac role. In place of the original single window main door the newer longer main door would feature twin windows. The new helicopter would be called the 205 by Bell and the UH-1D by the Army. Many armed forces all over the world would use the Huey. Notable users would be Germany and Japan. The D model was license built by Dornier. The Army used it as a utility Helicopter, and the Air Force for Search & Rescue. Japan would use the UH-1H which was a D model with an improved engine. The Kit A brand new tooling from KittyHawk, who have done their best to make it the best 1/48 Huey. It arrives on three sprues of plastic, one clear sprue, one sheet of photo-etch and 2 sheets of decals. Construction starts with the main cabin in the crew area. The collective and cyclic sticks are added along with the rudder pedals. The main instrument housing between the pilots is built up and installed along with the main instrument panel. Following this the transmission housing is also built up and installed at this time with the transmission and rotor head linkage on top. The two seats behind the pilots are built up and added at this time. The other rear seats are now built up and added along with the armoured pilots seats. Seat belts where needed are provided as PE. Next up the doors and windows are added to the main fuselage sides. The engine exhaust is added along with wells for the cargo hook area. Next up the engine deck is built up and the turbine engine added. Now the engine deck and main cabin interior can be added into the fuselage sides and the main fuselage closed up. The tailboom is made up as is the cabin roof. These are then attached to the main cabin. The solid nose parts are also added at this stage. The main glazing is added along with the engine covers with PE mesh areas. If using the door guns these can now be made up, added to their mounts and attached to the fuselage. The skids are made up and added along various aerials cable cutters as required. Lastly the main rotor is assembled along with the tail rotor and these are added on. Clear Parts These arrive in the now trademark cardboard box for added protection (something other kit manufactures should take note of) they are clear and with no defects. Decals Decals are provided on one many sheet, and a supplementary sheet for the instruments and nose art. The look to be well printed, in register and colour dense. Marking are provided for 4 US Army examples, and 3 overseas users; UH-1D - 121st Assault Helicopter Company US Army. UH-1D - 117th Assault Helicopter Company US Army. UH-1D - 174th Assault Helicopter Company US Army. UH-1D - 170th Assault Helicopter Company US Army. UH-1H - Japanese Ground Self Defence Forces. UH-1H - Taiwanese Air Force. UH-1D - Hubschraubertransportgeschwader 64, Luftwaffe, Althorn Conclusion A comprehensive kit of an iconic helicopter. Highly recommended. Review sample courtesy of and available soon from major hobby shops
  18. Hello, I would like to present my latest completion. 1/72nd Italeri Ab212 with whirlybirds "G-BALZ" conversion set. Built as part of the Huey group build but I missed the finishing deadline by a couple of days. WIP can be found here http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235006740-bristow-birds/&page=1 Also, please check out the gallery for an array of excellent Hueys. Presented as G-BALZ as she was around the late 70s early 80s. Operated by Bristows helicopters around the Brent oil field (Stationed on the Safe Gothia, and probably Sumburgh) thanks for looking
  19. Hi all and here's my latest finish, the Vietnam workhorse that was the Huey, built for the Huey GB here on Britmodeller. You can read the WIP here but to recap: UH-1D Slick 116th Assault Helicopter Company - "The Hornets" 1965-1971 Kit: Italeri 1247 UH-1D Iroquois Scale: 1/72 Paints: Revell acrylics, brush painted. Future, Flory Models Wash Decals: Kit Extras: Scratchbuilt door guns mounts; M-60s from spares box. Engine mesh from teabag (!) seat belts from masking tape Thanks for looking and all comments welcomed! Cheers, Dermot
  20. Hello again, I'd like to participate with this other Huey I'm making. Being an Italeri, my expectations weren't too high (my expectations from my own skills aren't high either). But... Good things of the kit The clear parts were thick and shiny enough not to need polishing. Clears parts fitted perfectly except for a few inconsecuential gaps. The main halves of the fuselage fitted perfectly, along with all major parts. Bad things: Having the doors closed would've required too much work, unnecessarily. A lot of guesswork to fit the rocket launchers. Exhaust piece was a total nightmare because it didn't have anywhere to hold to if you wanted it in the correct position. The building manual was WRONG in the installation of the control stick and I had glued them with CA. So anybody else who has built or who's building a 1/72 Italeri UH-1 single engine Iroquois, could you please drop a line saying if you had the same problems as I did? Anywho, onto the WIP: Front of box exclusive for Japanese market. Sprue shot My philosophy is to glue first, then paint bcz 1) glue doesn't work well with paint; 2) touching/holding painted parts is bad for the paint; 3) you'll need to repaint them anyway. Doing other stuff while the grey paint dries... Note how the grip of the control sticks fold forward, just as the manual suggests. But the manual was wrong and I wan't happy about that. Consequently, a less than desirable look to the base of the control stick. An example of how well the clear parts fit. So far so good. This was after a lot of headaches with installing the rocket launchers and the exhaust pipe, that I had to fix after taking this photo. I would've liked to finish it today but I'm tired of the problems it gave me and wanna take a break, watch a movie with helicopters or something : P And I know what you're about to say, there's blitzbuild GB and yes, I'm on my way there, too!
  21. So resurrecting this one from the back of the bench for this GB...a Vietnam era UH-1D in 'Slick' set up. Had got some small work started on it for last year's Vietnam GB but nothing over the 25% rule - will post some more pics tonight. I've scrounged some M-60s from a Blackhawk in the stash so they will be added to the build. Thanks for looking and here's to a whop-whopping good GB! All the best, Dermot
  22. After a few unfortunate delays you can finally Get To Da Choppah!.. Again. With our amazing deal on the Revell Bell UH-1 Huey Helicopter Model Kit! You can also find more great Revell Model Kits in the Revell Sale on our Website!
  23. Hello, I decided on these when the GB was first suggested since then whirlybirds have made life easier and issued an aftermarket set specifically for one of the aircraft I want to build. Not sure when I'll get to start or how much time I'll get but will see how things go. Two builds, in tandem so I'll keep them both here. First up is an Bell 205 used by Bristow helicopters to transport land rigs around Indonesia. Don't have much more info that that at the moment but the decal set is from S&M (SSM72-007 civil choppers) and the kit will be Italeri's UH-1D. second is G-BALZ. AB212 used by Bristows in the North sea (around the Brent Oil field during the 1980s into the early 90s I think?) It spent some time based on the treasure finder as well. I'll post some links at a later date with photos of both aircraft. Italeri AB212 kit with, as mentioned, whirlybirds G-BALZ set which includes resin parts, some PE and decals for G-BALZ in 3 schemes. I also have the Eduard PE set for the 212 as well. cheers for looking
  24. Hi! Here's my 1/72 scale Huey Gunship It is built OOB, and painted using Gunze colors. Best regards Rune Haugen Norway
