#24/2019 My father´s latest and last? contribution to his captured Bf109 theme this year. Had a Hasegawa Bf109 F/G fuselage lying around from an abandoned project. Then he had the idea to play Frakenstein and fusion it with a wing and undercarriage from Fujimi. (Had still two Fujimi kits in our stash that he won´t build) After some work the wing fit perfectly. Seatbelts from Eduard, Russian star decals from the sparesbox, translucent JG3 decal from an old Aeromaster sheet, brake lines with lead wire and EZ Line, the latter was used for the antenna wire too. MRP RLM74/75/76 for the base camo, AK Real Color AMT-7 Blue and MRP AMT-4 Green for the overpainted areas. Next one in my Royal Navy collection, the fabulous Sea Harrier! I'm already tempted to do a 1/48th one after this. It's a nice kit despite its age, and fits together really well, no filler needed at all. After being delivered to the FAA in 1979, XZ457 subsequently fought in the Falklands War, by then painted in all over dark grey. After conversion to an FA2, it crashed in 1995 after a forced landing following an engine explosion at Yeovilton, but thankfully the pilot ejected safely. The aircraft was subsequently rebuilt at Boscombe Down for static display. -

Another that I'd love to know the full pothential. Grumman X-29 Forward Swept Wing, finished like a USAF F-16. Kit acquired as an exchange for an unwanted Fujimi Skyhawk. Parts and candidate lo-vix decals. Here's one that I built in about 1989. There was a full size model X-29 at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, Washington DC, when I was fortunate enough to visit in 1994. . . which I thought was a real aircraft.- 18 replies

Had a Hasegawa 109 F-fuselage laying around and my dad decided to play Frankenstein and build a full 109 using the Hasegawa parts together with a Fujimi wing from the sparesbox. I thought I'd start another classic FAA jet while waiting for the Buccaneer to dry. I'll carry on with this once I finish the Bucc, but here's the usual box and decal shot for openers. Seems like a decent kit for its age, I'm no rivet counter so it'll do for me. I'll be making the 899 sqn option on the box art, in its early EDSG/white colours. Not with the Sea Eagles though, just drop tanks.

Wondering if anyone can tell me how easy (or difficult as the case may be) it would be to convert the Hasegawa 1/72 F-86D Sabre Dog into an F-86K? -
My plan for this GB is to build 2 Phantoms, as the plan is build them alongside each other, I propose to document the build in a single WIP. (Hope this OK) My inspiration for these builds is the Aviation Workshop Publication 'HMS Ark Royal (Fifty Years of Flight 1955-2005). The two kits I am using for this are Airfix's 1/72 Phantom FG.1 and Hasegawa 1/72 F-4B/N. The Aifix Phantom will be completed wearing the colours of 892 Squadron. The Hasegawa will be completed at an aircraft of VMFA-531 Sporting 892 Omega emblem. Profile below.

Hi guys, well that went together super quick, really enjoyed this build, great engineering. Instructions were not quite up to Tamiya's standards and not a beginner’s kit, for example the fuel tap was in 3 sections, a beautiful copy of the real thing, but the instructions were a bit vague as to how it all fitted. Lucky for me that I had seen an original tap up close and knew how it all should look, also at this scale this bike had loads of very fiddly cables and tubes to be cut to length and fitted in place. I painted the kit supplied chrome parts with a wash of AK grease enamel, I wanted the bike to look like it had been used all week to get to and from work and with lots of grime and rainwater exposure from the daily commute in all weathers, no show pony! Still I think it turned out a little gem in the end, I look forward to building another Hasegawa bike kit.- 12 replies

Kit - Hasegawa 1:48 Paint - Cockpit, seat etc all acrylics - Camouflage all Xtracolour enamels. Decals - Eagle Strike Extras - True Details resin seat, Eduard kit-specific 'Zoom' set. Fuse wire, fibre-optic cable and plastic card details in cockpit, air-brake and undercarriage wells. Canadair Sabre Mk. 4 Assigned to Sqn. Ldr. T. H. Hutchinson C/O 3 Squadron RAFG Geilenkirchen, 1955/56 So, a thirty year old kit, painted with thirty year old enamels and wearing twenty-five year old decals.... bit of an 'old skool' project wouldn't you say ? There honestly isn't too much to say, the kit really does fall together and is (happily) typical of those superb Hasegawa releases from the early 1990's, crisp detail, faultless molding with fuss-free engineering and construction - I really wish they would tool-up again and release some new kits, I know that's not going to happen, but there's nothing wrong with hope is there ?. The Eagle Strike decals behaved as if they were printed yesterday - utterly flawless and superbly printed by Cartograph, again, a company I really do miss. That's just about it. Please feel free to criticise, ask a question or make any sort of comment. Have the rest of a great weekend folks, best from Middle Earth. Ian.

Not as good as the academy kit but the Hasegawa Mig-23 kit does build fast. That said, I always get thrown off by kits that are a mix of raised and engraved panel lines because it makes it a little more challenging for me to make the paint job more interesting, especially since I was going for a Tipnis Grey finish. This was a straight OOB build. I broke the pitot tube early in the process and when I couldn't get a metallic pin to stick as a replacement, I fashioned a new one from my spares box. - I believe an old matchbox SHAR pitot tube. All colors are Tamiya. I used Sky Grey (XF19) for Tipnis Grey and gave it a black wash before sealing. The decals are mostly from the Hi Decal sheet for the MiG-23BN as I assumed they will be fairly similar. The Serial numbers are Berna Decals. I chose SK434 as it is still around as an attraction at the Indian Air Force Museum in Delhi. I hope you like this build. Comments are always welcome - thx for looking!- 16 replies

This is my first bike build of 2019. I normally have finished at least one bike build at this point in the year, but I haven't had much free time to build a kit until now. Hasegawa got the model designation wrong, this bike is a K model not a B, Suzuki had a weird habit of launching models with the letter J and ending not with A but with B, confused? Example, GT750J 1st year of production 1971, followed by GT750K in the 2nd year of production, updates included a move to a single disc front brake, dropping the front drum brake from the 1st model. Anyway, this should be a fun build, looks a great kit with not too many parts. Wish me luck!

RF-101C Voodoo 66th TRW, RAF Upper Heyford, 1968 1/72 Hasegawa kit rescribed + Mig paints I’ve had the old Hasegawa RF-101C in the stash for many years and was tempted to replace it with the much more modern Valom kit. But like many of these older kits it had that ‘old friend’ feel about it and I knew I wouldn’t bin it so it made it’s way onto the modelling desk. I remember the camouflaged Voodoos from 1960s Battle of Britain At Home days so I chose 60109 which I had a photo of from the 1968 Coltishall show. The kit is many decades old and is typical Hasegawa from the early period with light raised panel lines and very limited detail. The nose also seemed to have a slight turned-up look to it so I added some Milliput and reshaped it slightly. The very simple interior was a good starting point for a reasonably detailed cockpit and seat, and I rescribed most of the panel lines. I used the Mig USAF Vietnam acrylic paint set, with the lighter of the greens darkened slightly. Decals were from the spares box; mostly from old Superscale sheets. Quite pleased with it after 50 odd years of waiting to do it!

Another old kit, this time a Hasegawa P47D Thunderbolt. Circa 1972 I think. Part of the stash I bought from the family of an avid modeller who passed away. The stash is in another post. The decals are useless as they are stuck fast to the backing and crumbles when soaked and I tried to tease them apart. So for this one I tried printing my own decal. More of it later on.

Hello everyone... I will be using this Hasegawa kit re-boxed from monogram for my build. I will be using the instructions and decals from this kit. Here are the obligatory sprue shots In this photo ⬇️ you can see the only thing thats been done is the cockpit was glued together. This is a 2nd hand kit that came like this. Im pretty sure that falls below the 25% mark ? I actually have 3 complete canopy sets the kits and two from spares. I will be building either 87-8407 from the 306th Fighter Squadron in this scheme from 1982. Or my alternative will be 87-8411 from the 302nd Fighter Squadron in 1980. Please feel free to ask questions, make comments, or give your thoughts ? Dennis

Firstly the Dragon Me262A-1a. Not the easiest kit with some poor fit in places. Lots of detail and some very small etched metal parts. Hello all, Here is my recently completed 1/48 Hasegawa F-4F Phantom in the markings of Jagdgeschwader 71 (JG 71) 'Richthofen,' German Air Force during the mid 2000's. The build thread is here. Extras used included Quickboost resin seats Eduard etch, Phase Hangar Resin FOD inserts, Royal Resin unslotted stabilisers, Master Pitot and AoA probes, Aeromaster stencils, New Ware masks, AIM-9 Sidewinders from a Tamiya F-14 and AIM-120s AMRAAMs from an Academy F-15. The actual markings were with the kit when I bought it but I've no idea of the company. Paints are all Mr Paint and I went for the heavily weathered look so often seen on Luftwaffe F-4s toward the end of their service lives. I had meant to join in a bit earlier but things haven't quite gone to plan. I couldn't decide which Phantom to build so I'm going to have a go at a double build - this might be a bit ambitious as I'm joining half way through, but I'll have a crack at it. As both kits will have a lot in common it might be pretty efficient - I should be able to get parts from both kits painted at the same time for example. So hopefully I'm not overstretching my modelling time here! First up, Hasegawa 1/48 RF-4E: This is going to be in Iranian colours, probably the recent blue/grey scheme they've also been using on their Tomcats, using decals from Hi-Decal. Then the Hasegawa 1/48 F-4G (not sure why, but this has always been my favourite Phantom variant - it might just be from seeing one at my first IAT in 1985): This will be in Euro 1 colours using a Milspec decal sheet. Hopefully I'll get time to get started tomorrow. cheers Julian

Well I was going to leave the bag sealed until Saturday morning - but - as everyone seems to be showing off their sprues - here goes... ...well I make that 37 parts - as I won't have time to paint the driver and those metal 'axels' look interesting. I've been busy in the 'BIG BOYS SCALE' - in the form of a 1/35 King Tiger - but I didn't want folk to think I had deserted the 1/72 gang. Now back in the bag and box until Saturday... The last blitz build was loads of fun - so here's hoping this little beauty behaves itself and goes together quickly. See you all on Saturday - Steve

Just my place marker until I can get pics at the weekend but am entering with a Hasegawa Kittyhawk Mk 1. Probably gonna complete it as the same aircraft on the box art. Have started but is well below the 25% rule, I think I started painting the interior and then saw this GB was planned so I stopped.

The old Hasegawa P-51D 1/72 kit has decals for an aircraft from 339 FW flewn by Col. William C. Clark and named Dappy VI. I can't find any information about this aircraft nor any pictures of it or the kit with mentioned decals. https://www.scalemates.com/kits/hasegawa-a16-mustang-p-51d-north-american--158278 Or did Hasegawa and Scalemates get it wrong about the name of the aircraft? Hi all, Here's my 1/72 Hasegawa F-111D that I just finished. I used some Eduard PE on it, mainly in the cockpit, and used a mix of Superscale and kit decals. Painted with Gunze and Tamiya. I wanted to add a pair of Eduard AIM-9's, but those PE fins are really testing my patience and skills, so they might be added later. And the cockpit during construction: Thanks for looking.

G'day All, Well I managed to get another one off the shelf of doom, where it has languished for about 6 years. Nothing to flash, Hasegawa 1/48 F-104G with some JG-71 decals stuck on, that I found stashed away in the dark recesses of the model cupboard. Bunged on a couple of Hasegawa Aim-9B Sidewinders just for stamps as well. It will do, its only hanging from the ceiling. Cheers, Devo

Greetings! The last time I built a 1/72 Hasegawa Spitfire VIII was around 17 years back. I am revisiting this neat little kit with this quick build. Until the Eduard Mk VIII kit came out, the Hasegawa Mk VIII was the benchmark for me. Though this comes no where as close to the detail as Eduard but the engraved panel lines and the lines are pretty good, providing a neat fit and clean quick build. The cockpit has just around enough detail to look ok when you peer in. The only part I disliked was the undercarriage attachment which took some patience. I gave the kit a primary coat of Tamiya flat aluminum and applied salt to places I wanted the metal to show through for weathering. Next up was pre-shading using Tamiya flat black and then applying the camo - Tamiya Medium Sea Gray beneath and on top Tamiya Flat Earth and RAF Green. This was sealed with Tamiya clear. The stencils were from the kit as well as the spares box (Kits-world). I used xtra decals for the numbering and some more after market decals for the roundels and fin-flash. The reference picture I used is in black and white and i guessed that the nose looked blue and that's what I went with. Some quick history about the subject: This particular aircraft (MD 219) was flown by 2 Squadron Royal Indian Air Force and was forced to belly land when it suffered engine failure while formation flying from Kohat in May 1946. I added extra weathering assuming the airplane required much needed TLC before it went down. The pilot, Flying Officer K.L. Suri survived with minor injuries. I got this information from the excellent reference book, "Spitfires in the Sun" which is now my go-to book for the next few Spitfire builds I am planning.

This is the latest mold from Hasegawa with new parts. Subsequent rebox are with new decals but same kit. Hasegawa 1/72 QF-4E Phantom II USAF Farewell #02238. Pros - correct shape and kit for the 1/72 F-4E to G variants as Hasegawa Phantoms has to to be known. Good decals. Cons - poor fit surprisingly despite this being the latest mold and from a well known brand. Maybe its 1/72 and Hasegawa is looking to milk it for what its worth. This means there is an open market for someone to come along and provide a better fitting 1/72 F-4E to G variant.
