  1. Hi, I would like to enter into my second GB with Hasegawa's classic floatplane fighter. I have long been fascinated by this plane: floatplane fighters are one of the most bizarre categories of military aircraft and almost a mission impossible to design. Floats are hard to reconcile with low weights and good aerodynamics. Nevertheless, Kawanishi had done a good job with the N1K1 (based on the equally fascinating E15K fast reconnaissance aircraft). A design so sound that it was later turned into a land-based fighter, the N1K1-J. This must be one of the very few cases when a floatplane or flying boat was converted into a conventional plane and not the other way round. The only other case, I can think of, was the Piaggio P.166 which was based on the amphibian P.136. Do you know others?
  2. Hello all, Here is my recently completed 1/48 Hasegawa F-4F Phantom in the markings of Jagdgeschwader 71 (JG 71) 'Richthofen,' German Air Force during the mid 2000's. The build thread is here. Extras used included Quickboost resin seats Eduard etch, Phase Hangar Resin FOD inserts, Royal Resin unslotted stabilisers, Master Pitot and AoA probes, Aeromaster stencils, New Ware masks, AIM-9 Sidewinders from a Tamiya F-14 and AIM-120s AMRAAMs from an Academy F-15. The actual markings were with the kit when I bought it but I've no idea of the company. Paints are all Mr Paint and I went for the heavily weathered look so often seen on Luftwaffe F-4s toward the end of their service lives. Beside the last F-4 I built (about 2 years ago) - Turkish 2020 'Terminator': Thanks for looking Dave
  3. Just my place marker until I can get pics at the weekend but am entering with a Hasegawa Kittyhawk Mk 1. Probably gonna complete it as the same aircraft on the box art. Have started but is well below the 25% rule, I think I started painting the interior and then saw this GB was planned so I stopped.
  4. Well I was going to leave the bag sealed until Saturday morning - but - as everyone seems to be showing off their sprues - here goes... ...well I make that 37 parts - as I won't have time to paint the driver and those metal 'axels' look interesting. I've been busy in the 'BIG BOYS SCALE' - in the form of a 1/35 King Tiger - but I didn't want folk to think I had deserted the 1/72 gang. Now back in the bag and box until Saturday... The last blitz build was loads of fun - so here's hoping this little beauty behaves itself and goes together quickly. See you all on Saturday - Steve
  5. G'day All, Well I managed to get another one off the shelf of doom, where it has languished for about 6 years. Nothing to flash, Hasegawa 1/48 F-104G with some JG-71 decals stuck on, that I found stashed away in the dark recesses of the model cupboard. Bunged on a couple of Hasegawa Aim-9B Sidewinders just for stamps as well. It will do, its only hanging from the ceiling. Cheers, Devo
  6. Greetings! The last time I built a 1/72 Hasegawa Spitfire VIII was around 17 years back. I am revisiting this neat little kit with this quick build. Until the Eduard Mk VIII kit came out, the Hasegawa Mk VIII was the benchmark for me. Though this comes no where as close to the detail as Eduard but the engraved panel lines and the lines are pretty good, providing a neat fit and clean quick build. The cockpit has just around enough detail to look ok when you peer in. The only part I disliked was the undercarriage attachment which took some patience. I gave the kit a primary coat of Tamiya flat aluminum and applied salt to places I wanted the metal to show through for weathering. Next up was pre-shading using Tamiya flat black and then applying the camo - Tamiya Medium Sea Gray beneath and on top Tamiya Flat Earth and RAF Green. This was sealed with Tamiya clear. The stencils were from the kit as well as the spares box (Kits-world). I used xtra decals for the numbering and some more after market decals for the roundels and fin-flash. The reference picture I used is in black and white and i guessed that the nose looked blue and that's what I went with. Some quick history about the subject: This particular aircraft (MD 219) was flown by 2 Squadron Royal Indian Air Force and was forced to belly land when it suffered engine failure while formation flying from Kohat in May 1946. I added extra weathering assuming the airplane required much needed TLC before it went down. The pilot, Flying Officer K.L. Suri survived with minor injuries. I got this information from the excellent reference book, "Spitfires in the Sun" which is now my go-to book for the next few Spitfire builds I am planning.
  7. Hi all, Here's my 1/72 Hasegawa F-111D that I just finished. I used some Eduard PE on it, mainly in the cockpit, and used a mix of Superscale and kit decals. Painted with Gunze and Tamiya. I wanted to add a pair of Eduard AIM-9's, but those PE fins are really testing my patience and skills, so they might be added later. And the cockpit during construction: Thanks for looking.
  8. This is the latest mold from Hasegawa with new parts. Subsequent rebox are with new decals but same kit. Hasegawa 1/72 QF-4E Phantom II USAF Farewell #02238. Pros - correct shape and kit for the 1/72 F-4E to G variants as Hasegawa Phantoms has to to be known. Good decals. Cons - poor fit surprisingly despite this being the latest mold and from a well known brand. Maybe its 1/72 and Hasegawa is looking to milk it for what its worth. This means there is an open market for someone to come along and provide a better fitting 1/72 F-4E to G variant.
  9. I had meant to join in a bit earlier but things haven't quite gone to plan. I couldn't decide which Phantom to build so I'm going to have a go at a double build - this might be a bit ambitious as I'm joining half way through, but I'll have a crack at it. As both kits will have a lot in common it might be pretty efficient - I should be able to get parts from both kits painted at the same time for example. So hopefully I'm not overstretching my modelling time here! First up, Hasegawa 1/48 RF-4E: This is going to be in Iranian colours, probably the recent blue/grey scheme they've also been using on their Tomcats, using decals from Hi-Decal. Then the Hasegawa 1/48 F-4G (not sure why, but this has always been my favourite Phantom variant - it might just be from seeing one at my first IAT in 1985): This will be in Euro 1 colours using a Milspec decal sheet. Hopefully I'll get time to get started tomorrow. cheers Julian
  10. #20/2019 After the 109 in Romanian colours, my dad built also a Hurricane in foreign service. Hasegawa Romanian Hurricane kit, Eduard seatbelts, in the kit missing early style prop and spinner taken from the new Airfix Hurricane I, missing 5-spoke wheels from ultracast, missing early style antenna mast from the spares box, no ring but at least a crosshair gunsight included in the kit, decals from the kit and RB Productions. Tamiya Flat Earth and Dark Green for the upper camo, camo scheme done with masks from AML. 11. This was actually intended for Lockheed GB But one thing led to another, I missed the build deadline, and finished it several days ago... So here it is.. Hasegawa 1/72 CF-104, OOB beside wires for the ejection seat. I use mostly AK Interactive Xtreme Metal, Mr.Hobby Super Metallic, and Mr.Color paints. Cheers, Mario
  12. Thanks to those of you who followed my WIP, although small in content, helped me with some inspiration to see this through. I was satisfied with the end result and there is much for me to ponder that I will try and improve on for my next build. Overcoming some challenges in the end made it a success for me. I am glad to share with you. Hasegawa F-4 long nose but some modification needed. Eduard cockpit photoetch set and TrueDetails seats. Most of the rest came from the normal parts included. Paint was a combination of Tamiya and Vallejo, most lightened slightly. Revell paints are not available here in Canada, that would have provided better matches. This is the inspiration for me project, the original photographer was kind to send me an original image for me to use here, thank you Mr Friedrich Becker. Thank you for viewing and appreciate any and all comments. Craig
  13. Just finished this 1/48 F-104J in the Lockheed group build. It's the Hasegawa kit, finished with AK Xtreme metal, Gunze and Tamiya paints, decals from the Two Bobs Komatsu Starfighters set. Build thread is here. Thanks for looking Julian
  14. I would like to add a late entry. I have singlehandedly failed to do much modelling recently so I need a GB to kick me into gear. Buried in my stash (so deep it took some time to find it) I have this little gem. I cannot remember where I got it from but it must be 10+ years ago and the kit is obviously much older than that...raised panel lines anyone. The plastic also looks very shiny and a bit brittle. I am going to build it OTB. The main aim to (a) have fun and (b) complete a build. All comments welcome as always. Dave
  15. Last of five Emils done. Eduard kit with Hasegawa decals, RLM71 from Gunze, RLM65 from AK Real Color, legs shortened about 2-3mm to make it look better and more realistic, plastic rods and lead wire for the brake lines, EZ Line and fishing line for the antenna. 16. This is a 1/72 Hasegawa Hornet TF-18A that I picked up pretty cheap on ebay. Not too impressed with the general lack of detail and moulding but I think it is an older kit maybe? The kit decals looked like they have been soaked and left to dry, so were cracked and pretty unusable in the main. I managed to rescue the tail codes luckily and had a spare set from a Revell Super Hornet thankfully that made up the rest. Paint is Mig Ammo and the base is yet again a sheet of 2500 grade wet n dry paper mounted on beech block (Kitchen drawer front!), painted to resemble a carrier deck (if you squint slightly and close one eye!). Apologies to Coastal Kits for copying their carrier deck design All comments welcome
  17. Hi all, first work I'm posting on here. Relatively new modeler, this is probably my seventh completed build. Open to any critiques and constructive criticism! The model is of a YF-19 test jet/mecha (they call them variable fighters) from the anime Macross Plus. The story pits this conventionally controlled fighter against a neural-controlled YF-21 in test trials to see which would be the replacement for the current fleet fighter. The photos might hide some of the horrors, but from my own critical eye there's a noticeable amount of silvering in some decals, I butchered some areas I tried to re-scribe, and there are some joins that could have been puttied and sanded better. Also, I snapped apart one of the foot/engine nozzles, which is why they are uneven. I tried making my own stand for the first time, converting this to an in-flight model. This meant drilling a hole and plugging in a styrene tube to support a brass rod. It actually worked out pretty well, but it is very back heavy. I'm hoping the base I'm making for this will support it hah, but wanted to snap some photos first. In the stash is the 1/48 version of this plane, but I'm waiting for my skills to improve before I tackle it. Thinking a color closer to white for that one. This 1/72 version was good practice, and I will be building the YF-21 companion soon as well. Stynylrez grey primer Mission Model paints, Mission Model & Vallejo Metal Color for metals Molotow Liquid Chrome pen & Tamiya clears for the lights Mission Models gloss & Allclad Klear Kote Matte Mig enamel & mechanical pencil for panel lines (I generally like subtle panel line colors, but figured with an anime subject black was the right choice)
  18. The old Hasegawa P-51D 1/72 kit has decals for an aircraft from 339 FW flewn by Col. William C. Clark and named Dappy VI. I can't find any information about this aircraft nor any pictures of it or the kit with mentioned decals. https://www.scalemates.com/kits/hasegawa-a16-mustang-p-51d-north-american--158278 Or did Hasegawa and Scalemates get it wrong about the name of the aircraft? Happy IV or... ? Someone who knews? Cheers / André
  19. Hello everyone... I will be using this Hasegawa kit re-boxed from monogram for my build. I will be using the instructions and decals from this kit. Here are the obligatory sprue shots In this photo ⬇️ you can see the only thing thats been done is the cockpit was glued together. This is a 2nd hand kit that came like this. Im pretty sure that falls below the 25% mark ? I actually have 3 complete canopy sets the kits and two from spares. I will be building either 87-8407 from the 306th Fighter Squadron in this scheme from 1982. Or my alternative will be 87-8411 from the 302nd Fighter Squadron in 1980. Please feel free to ask questions, make comments, or give your thoughts ? Dennis
  20. A pair of recent completions, the Hasegawa 1/48 P-47D Thunderbolt I and Spitfire VIII, both in SEAC colours and both basically OOB. The Spitfire is in the markings of 152 Sqn, while the T-Bolt is of 146 Sqn.
  21. My plan for this GB is to build 2 Phantoms, as the plan is build them alongside each other, I propose to document the build in a single WIP. (Hope this OK) My inspiration for these builds is the Aviation Workshop Publication 'HMS Ark Royal (Fifty Years of Flight 1955-2005). The two kits I am using for this are Airfix's 1/72 Phantom FG.1 and Hasegawa 1/72 F-4B/N. The Aifix Phantom will be completed wearing the colours of 892 Squadron. The Hasegawa will be completed at an aircraft of VMFA-531 Sporting 892 Omega emblem. Profile below.
  22. Hi all, another recent completion, the Hasegawa F6F-3 Hellcat. I used the more detailed engine from the Hobbyboss kit, a resin cowling and wheels, a squadron vacform canopy and Techmod decals. It was my first use of Hataka acrylics and to my eye they look spot on (the photos in the bright desert sun makes them appear more vivid than reality). Hope you like it! Chris
  23. Hello everyone, having recently finished a long and stressful course at work I decided to get back into modelling again. Here is one of my most recent finished models, the Hasegawa P-51D Mustang. I used a set of resin flaps and wheels plus Aeromaster decals. With the paint I used various metallic shades to represent the various different materials used, for example the painted wings and unpainted fuselage. Hope you like it! Chris
  24. Hallo This is my Saraf. Kit from Hasegawa with Aires cockpit. The instruction for this kit is a nightmare. Guess…The wing installation on the left side is actually not possible, without cutting the plastic through. Without my own photos, the outcome would have been a disaster. The cockpit glass was glued after finishing all! The Aires cockpit does not match the Saraf. Detail work had to be done! The decals for the step on the right side is purely wrong. Too short! This is my second helicopter. Happy modelling
  25. 16/2019 And here´s the third of five Emils. Hasegawa kit, legs shortened about 2-3mm, some decals from Aeromaster but they got the Stammkennzeichen wrong, the ones for the underwing are missing so are decals for the coat of arms of JFS1. My dad used Luftwaffe letter decals from Fantasy Printshop, and coat of arms decals from Peddinghaus (1/72 ones because the 1/48 were way too large). Brake lines done with lead wire and plastic rods, the latter ones used also for the upperwing landing gear indicators, a piece of brass pipe for the antenna to fuselage insert, EZ Line for the antenna, AK Real Color paints for the RLM 74/75/76 camo. Build thread here https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235054625-ship-defense148-messerschmitt-bf109e-4-kommando-losigkeit/ Between February 14th and March 20th 1942, a bunch of pilots and aircraft from JG1 and Jagdfliegerschule (Fighterschool) 1 and 2 were sent to the far north to escort and protect German ships in Norway. The unit was called Jagdgruppe Losigkeit after it´s CO Hauptmann Fritz Losigkeit.
