Tamiya 1/72 scale Japan Torpedo Boat; OK so old kit been in the stash for a while so thought this will be my Thursday Night at the model club project some of my builds are a bit fragile for now so this will be easy to transport and work on for that one night a week my time. #26/2023 After Eduard´s new K-4, my dad has finished another Eduard 109, this time a G-14. Hauptmann Franz Wienhusen served with JG77 and JG5. In October 1944 he became CO of the IV.Gruppe, JG 4, and flew this Erla G-14. A partial pic of this aircraft with the typical Erla camo exists. On December 3rd 1944 he was KIA in a Regensburg G-10 near Aachen/Germany during ground attacks on an American convoy. The two aircraft are mixed up sometimes in profiles, models and infos. Used the decals from Eduard´s Regensburg G-10 kit for Wienhusen´s G-14. Painted with Mr Paint RLM 74/75/76, EZ Line used for the antenna wire, plastic rods and lead wire for the brake lines. Hi all. It's been a while since I started any construction, but here I am again. During all this time that I haven't started any models I have accumulated kits. Arma Hobby and Eduard preferably, although there is also some Tamiya, Hobby 2000 (ex-Hasegawa), Clear Prop and some other brands. All of them from WW2, from both sides, from different theaters of operations and in 1/72 scale. Some kits will have quite a few resin or metal "goodies", others will have a few and others will have none or very few. I wanted to start with a Bf 109E-3, from Special Hobby and which is really Eduard's mold. An absolutely nice kit in every way. I like to see airplanes with the canopy closed, so they don't lose their shape, but this makes it difficult to see the interior of the cabin and its details. For now this will be one of those that goes with the canopy closed and therefore I will not detail the cockpit except for a couple of details (harnesses for the pilot, foot straps on the rudder pedals and reflector sight, which is on the way). The chosen painting is that of Emil 3 of the III/JG 52 piloted by Karl Wolff in August 1940, according to the instructions. Since I plan to make an Emil 4 with the Galland livery and it will have yellow markings and that color is frequently seen, I would like to do it with the wingtips, rudder and engine hood in white. For now I have only finished the cabin, although the reflector sight is really missing, which is on the way, and the seat that after taking the photo and uploading it to Flickr I have seen that it is neither painted nor with the harnesses attached.... I have also painted the landing gear hole and the inside of the covers. have used Tamiya paints as a base color and Vallejo Model Color for details, or accumulated dust. Andrés.

Time to start something new. Something a bit more demanding than those kits that I have been working on recently. So I have chosen Revell's fantastic 1/32 Tornado GR1 with lots of lovely aftermarket as follows:- Flightpath UK's Tornado Detail and Conversion Set, Flightpath UK's Flaps, Slats and Spoilers set, Aires resin Afterburners, Aires resin Cockpit, Flightpath's LGBs and AIM-9s, Master Probes, SAC's metal undercarriage, including the supplementary set, and Eduard's canopy mask set. Hi everyone! I am currently building Spitfire LF Mk.IXc MH 712 "Pat" from 302 (Polish) Squadron during its operations in France after Overlord (summer 1944). https://allspitfirepilots.org/aircraft/MH712 I have to admit that I am mostly armor and figures man, but there are a few planes I really like, and Spitfire is definately close to top of the list. After building one of Eduards 1/48 Spits I expected superb details and fit. And while details are indeed superb, the fit was not that great and details to not help as it is very difficult to operate putty without damaging super fine panel or rivet lines. I decided to omitt invasion stripes under wings as photo seem to suggest they were no longer visible when it was made.

So here is (potentially) the start of part one of a dual/joint/two at a time build. Jury is still out in my head if to try two at a time having only completed two builds in 1/350 in the past 3 years especially as I still have a lot to learn and want them to turn out well. Also whether to do a joint thread or separate ones? As a kid I built 1/600 battleships, if it didn’t have big guns I wasn’t interested. A few years back I dabbled in 1/400 and built battleships, (you may see a pattern), now that I’m rather hooked on the hobby again I’ve started by building you’ve guessed it – battleships, specifically Zvezda’s Dreadnought and Hobbyboss’s Dunkerque (95% complete). As I looked at my stash of 12 and counting with a couple of those started I realised bar a modern Russian destroyer I needed to change it up. I settled on Aircraft Carriers, specifically 3, the bank said I could have 2 - fair enough I said. I wanted something unusual looking and Graf Zeppelin is certainly that. I’d actually discounted her as the aftermarket options aren’t great, Mk.1 do a set three times the cost of the kit which I personally think is too much. Eduard do a set in 4 prts, 2 prts of which are now discontinued. I contacted them about this and another set for Roma they have done similar with and they very bluntly said they wouldn’t bring it back into production even if demand went up which seems odd but that’s up to them. So I have coming on monday trumpeters kit of Graf Zeppelin in 1/350 with half of the eduard sets available, I did track down all four parts but when I compared the kit parts with those offered by eduard I found multiple areas when eduard merely replaced what was already included in the kit with little or no marked difference. I’ve also an extra set of six ME 109’s and Stukas. I plan to do my best with it, maybe scratch build a few bits, it won’t be jaw dropping in terms of PE but I think there is enough to lift the base model up a level or two. Part of the thing with Graf Zeppelin is of course she was never finished (about 95%) and in the process of not being finished she was changed several times. A brief history can be found on many a website, likely including this one on other builds but essentially, she had an Atlantic bow added post launch, was put on hold a couple times, had bulges added as well as changes to her super structure, AA armament, Aircraft complement and make up etc. You get the idea, the brilliant thing is it means you can’t really go wrong and where the line is drawn is any ones guess. As you’ll see from the following photos, Insert obligatory pictures (all from scale mates and Wikipedia) I plan to make minor changes to the super structure and funnel cap as I think trumpeter got it very very very wrong. I’ve no idea on paint schemes she’d likely have adopted, the Germans didn’t seem to do much up to early 42 which is potentially when she could have entered service had she not be placed on hold repeatedly. There is this picture on Scalemates that are supposedly GZ but to me I'm not convinced, the step/angle in the bow is gone, the tip of the bow is different as is the rake, as are the missing casemates (which is possible) but the bulge comes a lot further forward and the superstructure is stepped out to one side which would be massive work to undertake during the brief times she was actually worked on post 1940, I wondered if these are perhaps pictures of Weser but I don't think she got that far in construction? Now as for the second ship I may concurrently build – I’ll say nothing partially not to jinx it, Im told it'll be here in short order but time will tell. I'll be initially working to complete to a point of airbushing as the bank balance has taken a hit and so I can’t invest in an Airbrush right now. So any areas hairy stickable I’ll look to do and other areas be left ready for airbrushing later in the build. I'm not sure how easy to do as sub assemblies carriers are - but I'll guess I will fid out. Dunkerque has taken 10 months and isn’t huge but is nearly there so I doubt this will be a quick build initially but if you’d like to follow on and have made it through my inane ramblings I’d be glad of any input and suggestions as to: - paint schemes - paint sequencing given my Airbrish plan/delay - and modifications that may make her stand out. Ludwig Franzisket, Stab I./JG 27, Ain-el-Gazala airfield, Libya, June 1941 I won't have a huge amount of time for this - because I'm also in the Leopard STGB So this will be the Eduard 109e-7/Trop in 1/32 with minimal aftermarket (boo, boo, yeah I hear you…) The minimal being the Eduard 32219 Photoetch, I'm also aiming to add additional piping and wiring in the engine compartment, which will be exposed This will obviously be a desert-weathered plane - I have no experience of doing this, but from real-life experience sand gets absolutely everywhere! So too it will on the model I've never done a mottle before, I'm aiming to cut pairs of masks, one in 0.5mm thick card, and the other in paper, the paper being the size of the blotches, the card with larger holes, so when I spray the green it's nicely soft at the edges Apart from that I've actually built two Eduard 109e's at 1/48 before, so not expecting too many surprises in the build itself (I may live to regret that statement) I'm aiming to spray the balkenkreuzen, but unlike the Ju 88, I won't be cutting masks by hand, I'll be aiming to cut with a Silhouette Cameo 4 onto Oramask 810, and no, I've no experience of this either, so will be a learning curve Everything else will be decals, the Eduard decals go down pretty well with my go to solution, Humbrol Decalfix. Humbrol would have you dip the decals in Decalfix from the start, but I have found that by the time the decals start to slide they are too soft and tend to roll and wrap themselves up - I don't want that, so I'm going to use water, and as soon as they slide dip them in Decalfix for 60 seconds before applying Off we go then, here's the box and photoetch: Contents with proof of no false start: Off to the wash: And here's the scheme I'll be doing Off to prepare the masks whilst that washes….

Hi, recently built this Eduard 1:48 Mig-21BIS, decided to do it as Finnish Air Force MG-129 of HaaLLv 31, Kuopio, circa 1981. Chose this scheme as i had the matchbox 1:72 version as a kid!!! Built oob, airbrushed using Mr Color Acrylic paints and Mig Ammo washes. All in all it went together very nicely, the only real issue i had was getting the 4 tiny aoa vanes onto the pitot tube....... really wish id just bought an add on one Not too sure about the paint scheme but i went with the "more grey" as it looked closer to the photos i was using rather than the earlier brown. Hi all. I´d like to show you a modell finished earlier this year. It´s the nice 1/72 scale Hobby Boss kit of the iconic U-2. I purchased the kit at an modelling fair this spring and imediatly started building it. The fit is quite nice and with some etched parts from eduard for the pit and some other details you can get a nice little spyplane. For the presentation I added a GPU from a Hasegawa set and a scratchbuilt ladder. The flaps were also lowered by myself as the kit didn´t provide this option. Regards Daniel

This my second from the superb “Southern Star” Dual Combo boxing after my 92 squadron Mk.Vb - I always wanted to build an Aussie spit but every time I have nearly got to it - something came up to put me off. So now I have done it and I am reasonably pleased with the result - though I should learn my lesson and do ALL of my research before I start. Based on research carried out by the genius Peter Malone and some self interpretation of pictures found on the net, I modified the Eduard colour scheme and made a couple of minor mods to the kit. Basic plan was for a standard Tropical RAF colour scheme of Dark Earth/Mid-Stone over Azure Blue but with the Mid-stone overpainted with Foliage Green. The white tail and wing leading edges were apparently (I hope) added shortly before the squadron moved north to Kiriwina Island for operations. Also at this time it appears that the Mk.II IFF was replaced by the Mk.III IFF which dispensed with the wires from the fuselage to tail to be replaced by a dipole aerial under the starboard wing. I hate those wires so a dipole was dutifully and gratefully added. Also, the pipes for the gun heating system were removed from the rear of the exhaust leaving unfilled holes in the cowling - suitable holes were duly drilled (Well after painting - should have done my research earlier!)In all the pictures I could find - none showed any stencilling so I was lazy and left them out - I can feel a rash of pictures coming along to prove this wrong now! I wasn’t happy with the Eduard suggestion for the colours of the Votes filter sides and the spinner. They both look like similar but slightly different greens from the Foliage Green to me and my interpretation of the pictures. I tried to make the whole thing look a little but scruffy and dusty but as I noted to a friend - that often makes it look not so well done! There was one howler which was too late to correct but no model is perfect so it will have to stay as it is. Anyway - again a super kit from Eduard and again the removal of the carrier film from the decals was fairly easy and effective. Will definitely be building more! Cheers Malcolm

Took a second attempt to finish it, the first model didn´t make it to finish because my dad didn´t get along with Eduard´s complex and fragile landing gear. Good day, With apologies to Reini, I did NOT copy off of your homework my friend. I noticed you had posted Hellcats as well but in 48th scale. Upon completion of my previous Eduard Hellcat, I wanted to try a second one. My goal was to correct the mistakes I had made on the -3 and try some new techniques ( some of which failed ). Here are the highlights of the kit…………… 1. Interior : MRP Interior Dark Dull Green, Eduard USN photo etch seat belts. 2. Airframe : Model Master Insignia Blue, Polly Scale USN Weathered Deck blue ( landing gear ), Gunze Flat White ( centerline tank & starboard wing radome ) 3. Washes : MIG Stone Gray ( airframe ), Tamiya Brown & Black 4. Weathering : silver paint chipping, brown, dark gray, and mid gray chalk pastels. 5. Scratch built centerline tank bracing and struts. 6. Uschi Bobbin thread for antenna wire. Unfortunately, I continued to make mistakes and some of the new techniques did not go as hoped / planned. The clear gloss medium I normally use came out thick and gave the dreaded “orange peel” effect. By this time, I became frustrated and just wanted it done. I need to readdress a pesky seam on the port side landing gear tire. I also forgot to apply the base cannon barrel shrouds to the leading edge of the wing. Again, it`s not one of my best efforts but at least it`s on the shelf and not in the box. Thank you in advance. With much respect, Mike

#22/2023 Dad´s finished another one. New Eduard kit oob. A good kit like their other late 109s but still some mnor corrections to be done. Relocated the lift up holes on the rear fuselage, opened the missing shell ejector opening for the engine mounted 30mm gun on the bottom, which by the way is on the right and not the left side. Some "grill" openings on the belly need to be filled too. a little hole needs to be driled on the underside of the nose after the prop. The K-4 usually had no footstep and handgrip on the right side whioch need to be filled and the hatch after the seat is wrong in size and shape, used a plastic sheet there. EZ Line for the antenna wires, plastic rods instead of the kits PE parts for the upper wing landing gear indicators. Painted with MRP White Aluminium and RLM74/75/81/82/76. No swastika applied for legal reasons. Hallo Here I want to show you a typical design issue from Eduard. At the Gustav version, this area of the trimming wheel and chains was always a brickle area. In the Kurfürst kit, many flwas and issues from the Gustav are corrected. Here in the cockpit now you can see on the picture below that two parts are interferring already! The designer did not notice it. o The witdh at the bracket where the arrow points is aleady with the plastic part nill! To reduce the shape gives you comfort for assembling. The offset is so much, that the etched part must be cut or left out! Happy modelling

Good day, It has been quite some time when I last posted a subject here. Summer time activities tend to get in the way of my hobby time. I actually completed this Eduard Hellcat way back in at the end of July. Here are the highlights of the kit………. 1. Cockpit : Vallejo Green Zinc Chromate, Eduard USN photo etch seat belts and instrument panel 2. Airframe : Polly Scale Dark Sea Blue, Intermediate Blue-Gray, Gunze Flat White 3. Weathering : AK Gray-Blue, Flory Dark Dirt, Vallejo Lt Rust washes. Brown, Black, and Mid Gray chalk pastels. AK Fuel Stains 4. Kit supplied decals of LT William Moseley of squadron VF-1 onboard the USS Yorktown during the Battle of the Philippine Sea in June of 1944. Mosley claimed two A6M5 Zero`s during this battle. 5. Uschi Fine bobbin thread for the antenna. 6. Reconfigured wing tip lights from scrap clear plastic. 7. Replaced centerline tank bracing with fine wire and metal tubing. The kit is straightforward but care needs to taken into account as parts fit tightly. The profi-pack edition supplies many extras with the kit. Detail is very nice. Supermarine Spitfire Mk.I PR Type B, Reims, 1940 Part 1 Here is one of my latest projects: one of the earliest photo reconnaissance Spitfires. This is the Type B which carried two vertical cameras, one fitted in each of the inboard gun bays' ammunition box. An additional fuel tank was fitted in the fuselage behind the cockpit to increase the range. I made a bit of a start on this in the Recce and Scouting GB but it really didn't get far, and as the GB closes at the weekend I thought a re-start would be a good idea. For references, I'm dipping into Dr Alfred Price's "The Spitfire Story", Valiant Wings' "Merlin-engined Spitfires", Ventura's Classic Wardbirds #10 "Merlin PR Spitfires", On Target Profiles #8 "Photo Reconnaissance Spitfires", Steve Lucas' "Spitfire Mark by Mark", and of course Morgan and Shacklady's "Spitfire: The History". I PR Type A Spitfire PR1 1:72 And this page on Facebook has some great info: Spitfire PR IB N3069 - Remembering F/O Mervyn Wheatley The entire page is a fascinating tribute to this early PR pilot, F/O Mervyn Wheatley who met his death on 22 March 1940 when he was shot down by Lt. Harald Jung of I./JG20. There are some incredible photographs posted, some of which are well-known but which in this instance have been taken from first-generation copies and are far clearer than any I have seen previously. Such as: PR IA N3069 Colourised PR IB P9331 Colourised PR IA N3069-N3071 Details I'm not entirely convinced by the validity of the colourisation, but I think the clarity of the photos is astonishing. There are many other interesting items and its well worth a look through for anyone interested in PR Spitfires. And there is this invaluable photograph from the IWM archives: Spitfire Mk.I PR Camera Installation IWM Archive Box and sprue shots, although they'll be well-known, I'm sure: I'll also be *trying out* the Quinta Studio Spitfire Mk.I set as an alternative to all that etch.
