  1. Hello all My father in law worked on Lightnings with 5 Squadron at RAF Binbrook in the early 70s, and I'm hoping to make him a replica of a machine he may have worked on from that era as a surprise and a reminder of his time there. I've got the Airfix kit, but am struggling to find appropriate decals. I saw CT Modeller's build in 1/72 of a Lightning in the scheme I'm looking to do (http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234958536-5-squadron-lightning-f6/) but the research I've done so far into decal options at 1/48 doesn't provide any options for a 5 Squadron lightning from that era, like this one below. Does anyone know of any decals that might be available for such a scheme? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks very much Adam
  2. I am thinking of buying the Authentic Airliners E190, and I want to build the Helvetic plane I flew on a few days ago. Does anyone make Helvetic decals? If not, I would be just as happy with Lufthansa, or buying the E195 and making one of the many Air Dolomiti ones I've flown on, or really any other airline, but I would quite like to make the Helvetic one. Does anyone know about decals?
  3. Deleted. Not the wanted area.
  4. Hullo all, I recently came across the nose art for this Halifax B.VII: I'd rather like to build a model of this machine, if possible, hopefully using the new Revell kit that's due out this year, as I believe the B.VII had radial engines. Does anyone know if this scheme has ever been replicated on a decal sheet in 1/72? Is it even possible to build a B.VII from a B.III? What are the differences?
  5. I am delighted to say that my Great Wall Hobby Victor B2 arrived today. Great service from Lucky Model once I had got over the ordering issues. The kit itself is a delight - restrained panel lines, some cockpit detail and ability to model the kit with either open or closed airbrakes. The markings are all for a camo machine - I wonder if Fundekal can do some decals for assorted Victor B2 in white/camo schemes for the Victor as they did for the Vulcan. That would be very nice indeed! John
  6. Well I got myself the excellent Zvezda TU-154, the kit is a dream. It fitted together very nicely, minimal filler and I think very good surface detail. I painstakingly airbrushed the Aeroflot silver and blue colour scheme, and it looked quite nice (even if the blue wasnt quite right!). Then I came to decal it. The decals are very poor. Poor standard of printing and then when applied they wouldn't settle down so tried a bit of Micro Set and then disaster. They just wrinkled horribly, I had left it overnight and the state in the morning was bad. I had to rub down the cheat lines and the flag on the tail was wrecked. I have now rubbed down and dont know where to go from here. I did ponder on doing some heavy weathering and go for a faded look but not sure if it would work on the tail. Or trying to paint in the red white and blue but would not be able to replicate the highlights on the flag. I really dont want to strip it and start again. I have their A320 in the stash but am worried those decals may be poor as well, any ideas? The tail areas: I have already repainted the orange cheat line, but can fade it if necessary
  7. Does anyone know if decals were ever made for this P-47D? I don't normally (ever) build US subjects, but something about how happy the bird looks really amuses me. I know Big bottom Bird II has decals, but does this aircraft?
  8. I've got the decals, but not the instructions which isn't really very helpful! Anyone able to help me out with a scan of the instructions please? I'm not in a huge rush, but wouldn't mind having them in time for the Sea King STGB if anyone's able to help. Thanks in advance, Mark.
  9. Ok, as the RAF are finally getting their aircraft delivered, does anyone know of any decal suppliers doing any for the Revell 1/72 kits? https://www.gov.uk/government/news/first-uk-a400m-atlas-delivered-to-the-raf
  10. hi hope this is posted in correct area. just finished my hobbyboss zlin-142, and when putting on decals they just disintegrated so have none left to finish my project. I was wondering if anybody knows where to buy decals for this particular aircraft, would apppreciate any help I can get on subject
  11. Someone better get printing 1/48 VF-84 Jolly Rogers F-14A Decals things are getting ridiculous £95 for decals ! ... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181565823396?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
  12. I have printed some decals and now need to varnish them before cutting out and applying. Printed using Mr. Decal paper and Epson colour-fast inks. When in place, the model will be brush-coated with Winsor & Newton Galeria. Last time I had a problem with the varnish "spotting" in little blobs rather than settling down smooth. I am assuming that this was because the paper is porous, so the solvent gets sucked down before the splatted droplets can merge. It's especially noticeable when you have a glossy final finish. Has anybody had better results with some other brand of spray can?

  14. I have an Italeri SR-71 ready to be decalled. Unfortunately, some of the decals seem to have faded. So I filled in the form on their website, and they are trying to charge me €6 for some decals that were already broken out the box. So does anyone have any hints on how to get spare decals from Italeri, preferably for free? Also, if I cant get Italeri decals, do you know whether one can get spares from revell without buying the kits? Thanks- Bobthefrog.
  15. Hi there Just wondering if anyone knows if decals for Jaguar xx965 in the black paint scheme with "the saint" graphic on the tail fin are available? I know they are included in the Hasegawa 2 Jags kit, but already have a model and would really like to try this scheme. Thanks Steve
  16. Does anyone know where I can acquire decals for VMF-251 F-8 Crusader circa 1963? Thanks.
  17. I bought this sheet http://www.hannants.co.uk/product/X72193 for some Airfix fabric wing Hurricane builds as there are some great schemes on this sheet. The instruction sheet lists references for each scheme. This is a great idea as like to have a picture of the aircraft I model. unfortunately some mentioned references are a bit cryptic. Several schemes have references to "F.Sqns" followed by a page number (119, 141, 183, 288) Does anyone know what book that is? In regards to the decals, all roundels are printed with a bright red looking like pre-war roundels. Is this correct for fabric wing Hurricanes? I red that Gloster kept using the pre-war roundel colours for some time on their built Hurricanes, but I would have thought that the early fabric wing Hurricanes were Hawker built. Did they use the brighter colours for the roundels as well? Some insights would be much appreciated. Cheers, Peter
  18. Hello all, I recently acquired the Spitfire/Typhoon D-Day combination package. For those of you who aren't familiar with it, Academy has re-boxed the Typhoon Mk. Ib and Spitfire Mk. XIV with new decals. My question is does anyone have any experience with the newer decals Academy has been packing in their kits? I had a heck of a time (as most would expect) with my previous kits from the Korean manufacturer. I am hoping to hear that they have corrected their thickness issues, but not holding out for awesome feedback.
  19. Wanting a finish for a British aircraft built ca. 1942 (not long after the introduction of Ocean Grey), and I believe that a kind of "off-matt" or not-quite-satin would be about right. I tried out a tinlet of Humbrol Satin Enamel varnish and it seems surprisingly matt, just about right. But when I mix in a little Humbrol Thinners (cos it's a bit gloopy) and brush it on, it dries with fine brushmarks of matt vs. satin sheen. If I spray it on, I may need to mix in a dash of matt to get the slight sheen I want, so a rattle can is not really an option. So, two questions: First, is there a way to brush on to give a smooth sheen, or do I need to dig out the (t)rusty old Badger and get spraying? Second, will decals stick properly or do I really need to apply gloss coat/s, decal, sheen coat/s? I tried a small spare decal and it stuck down fine.
  20. Ever since I was a lad I always wanted a jetranger and now I finally have one. I made this to tryout making my own decals from scratch. I scanned in the logo from my business card and then using my colour laser (thrown out in a skip) I printed them out and printed a custom reg (Rodney Stewart Greenway) and bobs your uncle. I'm happy if anybody does have an italeri or Esci 1/48 scale Jet ranger they don't want I have beer tokens As always best seen from a few feet away Rodders
  21. In my personal group build of FAA Corsairs I have come to realise the distinct lack of stencil data for the FAA Corsairs as you can't use the minimal stuff provided by Tamiya and Xtradecal don't nprovide them. I have just bought the Techmod sets for the 1/48 Corsairs and Wildcats and they come with the stencil data. My question is - are there aftermarket stencil data for the Corsairs in FAA service in 1/48?
  22. I've just started my first kit for about 20 years (an AZ Bf-109G6) and an early bit of work was the instrument decal. I put it into water, waited and once it was mobile, started to slide it off the backing paper. At which point it shrivelled up and disintegrated! Compared to what I remember, these decals are incredibly thin. I used to use Modeldecal, MicroScale etc, which were OK, but these seem about molecule thick! I can busk the intrument panel by hand, but I don't fancy this happening on the wing crosses. Any suggestions? There might have been about 1ppm of flow improver in the water, but that's all. Should I give them a spray of clearcote to reinforce them, like I do with home-made decals? Help!
  23. Hi, I am interested in obtaining the Cutting Edge 1/144 Space Shuttle Tile Decals, unfortunately they appear rare as hen's teeth. I understand that these are out of production since Modelworks are no longer trading. I have been on a popular online auction site to no avail; the 'Warbird' tile decals are however available, but I would rather procure the Cutting Edge decals if possible? I have written to Keith McNeill with no response via his website too. The Ed Bisconti Orbitor Decal Sets appears to have dried up also for one reason or another. I would like some advice if there are any other after market tile decals for the Space Shuttle 1/144 available? If there are any, or if anyone has a set, then I would be very interested hearing from them. Thank you
  24. Hi chaps, I was wondering where you could find decals in the US for the Focke WUlf FW-190 D-9? like Amazon.com, and if possible, could it be ones witha yellow tail? Thanks, Sherminator
