  1. (other imaging programs are available) I am looking for someone who can help me reverse the colours on the decals for the air filter on the Sea king HC4 / Mk3A so that the bits that are grey and the bits that are black are reversed. That would look better than the current scheme. I have a colour laser that can print them but am rubbish at using any of the photoshop type software. I was hoping to just be able to take the new image and put it into a word document and print off some for my own use. If you see the image below you can see what I mean (forget the red rings)
  2. Hi all, Does anyone out there have a copy of the instruction sheet for this kit? I've lost mine and I need some stencil references. I'd be very grateful if you do and can send me a PDF scan of it. Thanks in advance. Martin
  3. Hi everybody! I'm currently working on restoring my AMT 1:1400 USS Enterprise D and so far its going well. It is the second stage of my many headed beast restoration project: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235006480-revisit-and-restoration-of-old-star-trek-models/ So I decided that I was going to use Acreation Models Aztecing decals instead of painting the Aztecing on by hand! My question is what is the best way to apply them? By that I mean, what would I use to prepare the area I am applying the decal too before hand, and what is the best method to seal them afterwards? Any help and advice is greatly appreciated LLAP \V/
  4. https://www.sovereignhobbies.co.uk/collections/hobbydecal We are almost done listing the new-to-us HobbyDecal range. For anyone not familiar with the brand, they hail from South Korea and are gorgeously printed decals and dry transfer sets of hard-to-find stencil markings, tail codes, some squadron markings as well as beautifully machined metal pitot tubes, AOA probes, refuelling probes in 1/32, 1/48 and 1/72 scales.
  5. He have some shots of the upcoming Tamiya 1/48 F-14A Tomcat; showing the sprues and decal options. This kit is expected for release in early October, and is set to be extremely popular. https://www.wonderlandmodels.com/products/tamiya-148-us-f-14a-tomcat-model-kit/
  6. Hi all, In the process of building up a stash of FAA jets in 1:72 and noticed that Model Alliance have the ML48121 decal set for many of these types, for the Ark Royal air wing. It looks like an interesting project, but as it all hangs on these decals being correct, I just wanted to check that there were no errors with the set that anyone was aware of? Thanks for any advice, Tony

    Airfix decals

Maybe it's just me but I seem to be having big problems with Airfix decals recently. I've just completed my Shackleton and there is a significant amount of silvering around panel lines and even in the middle of flat areas where there are clear panels within the decal. By way of preparation I have buffed down the airbrushed paintwork, sealed with Alclad Aqua Gloss, and cut this back to a mirror finish with Greygate plastic polish. I then applied the decals with a generous helping of both Mr Sol Setter & Softer. If anyone knows of a more effective way to get decals to apply without silvering then I'd be genuinely interested. Where the decals have met raised areas such as under the wing on the serial numbers I found that the Softer didn't seem particularly effective in helping the decals to conform. They seemed quite rigid and tough, almost like old fashioned Academy decals. I don't know whether it's the decals or the softener as this is the first time I've used it but Mr Sol liquids have a reputation as being strong. I've previously found the decals on my Javelin to be similarly hard work, albeit with the use of Microscale Sol and Set which I generally find quite good. I'm wondering if this is an systemic problem with Airfix decals and whether anyone else finds them a bit of a pain. I hate to say it but what with one fuselage half being short shot (which Airfix were able to replace), the cockpit canopy missing (which they weren't, necessitating a return to the shop for an exchange), and now apparently poor decals I'm getting a bit tired of Airfix quality control. I'm not one to whinge about the challenges we face as modellers but there comes a point that you have to decide whether or not to continue to buy a particular brand.
  8. I have purchased the Sea King mk3 and have found that the decals are not fully"varnished" See picture below. Is mine a one off or is a fault on them all like the canopy was on the 1/24 Typhoon. The areas are marked I dont want to soak them off to find I have problems if anyone has the same kit can they have a look to see if theres has the varnish missing also. No point asking Airfix for new if they are all the same. Area marked is where there in no varnish. That said I have a spare old airfix mk3 set 2 sets of modeldecals with a yellow and a grey falklands A/C and the modelart set so it isnt that big a problem Sorry for the poor quality of picture and on a slant but I know that britmodeller dont like pictures that can be used to make copies Rodders
  9. Hi all, I'm building a 1/144 A319 at the moment, and to be geeky for geeks sake i'm painting it up in a fantasy livery of the imaginary airline I has when I was a kid... Take what you will from that. Either way, I need to find a decal sheet of standard lettering to form a random/made up registration. G - XXXX (or whatever). Ideally I need them in white. I can find some squarey RAF ones around, but if someone can point me towards some more generic ones, i'd be grateful. I can paint the livery but not the reg. Cheers, Chris
  10. Hello out there, I've been building the above kit, in vanilla form, from the 'dogfight doubles' set. So far I've been mighty impressed by the kit and only had a couple of minor niggles, mainly to do with the carpet monster swallowing one of the smallest parts and snapping the pitot tube on the sprue. That's either me being ham fisted or the part being just too fine, probably the former. Now comes my question. When I started to closely study the decal sheet against the kit diagram there are one heck of a lot more very small stencil decals on the sheet than I can find on the kit instructions. Have I missed something? Can anyone help me and point me in the right direction to show me where they all go? FatFlyHalf
  11. Does anyone know if a 1/72 decal is available of this 55 Squadron badge on Westland Wapiti K.1397 photographed at RAF Hinaidi Iraq?
  12. OK, time to consult Britmodellers massive throbbing brain once more. So... this is concerning Gulf blue Zero Paint, 2k and decals on my GT40 MK11. Is it best to: 1. Apply the decals straight onto the Zero paint and then 2k. 2. Apply a coat/s of 2k over the paint, decal and then fully 2K. ( and if so what's the best method for this? ) 3. non of the above, you're missing the obvious you stupid numpty. 4. Phone a friend. All answers on a postcard to... I kid. So yeah, can anyone help me with my dilemma? Thanks in advance.
  13. Hello folks, anyone planning decals for the new Qantas retro scheme? Looks great. http://www.airliners.net/photo/Qantas/Boeing-737-838/2733726/L/ Looking at you Ray... (please) Cheers, Andrew
  14. Well it had to happen didn't it! After several years pondering whether I should or shouldn't; I've taken the plunge and decided that what the world needs is more aftermarket decals, so I'd like to welcome you all to my new venture - Marmaduke Press. As most of you perhaps know, my interests tend towards RAF and Commonwealth subjects of the WW2 to post-war era, so it seems a natural step to make decals to go with this - after all there's only so much raiding the decal dungeon to piece together serial numbers and find the right size roundel that a chap can put up with! I'll make no apologies up front for stating that other nations aircraft will be covered too at some point, as the Finnish airforce and Swedish airforce have always been of interest to me too, but to start with expect things with red or orange, white & blue roundels, Kangaroos, Kiwis, Maple leaves and Springboks. My preferred scale is 1/48th - so initial releases will be for models in this scale, but never fear my Gentlemen's Scale & Large Scale friends ( and customers I do hope) - I'm aiming to satisfy your urges too. What do I hope to bring to this ? Well interesting schemes and subjects, decent prices, and as much info a possible. Where we don't know something we'll tell you, and provide a choice. I hope you'll like my initial release announcement - which I will post here before TELFORD - with aim of decals being available early in the new year. However - if there's a subject you feel is uncatered for, or would be of interest - please do drop me a line here, and I'll see if it's financially viable. And so - onwards, and hopefully upwards at a meteoric rate! Jon Tabinor "Jonners"
  15. Decals: Wolfpack 1/72 WD72001 Avro 698 Vulcan Part.1 - incl. two XH558 markings! Source: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.907570666002806.1073741852.554818677944675&type=3 V.P.
  16. Hi everyone, I'm not sure if I should be posting this topic here or in the Cold War section, so please indulge me a little if you feel I have posted it im the wrong place. I am looking for decals in 1/72, 1/32 and 1/24 for early Indian Air Force roundels, notably, the 'chakra' symbol of a blue spinning wheel on a white circle as seen in the centre of the Indian tricolour. Does anyone know of any decals out there that fit th bill? Cheers, and thank you all very much for any help and for taking the time to read this thread, Viv
  17. Hi All, Just a quick one. I recently purchased the Revell 1:24 Huey, and it's a MONSTER of a kit. Unfortunately the kit decals are so painfully dull! I've had a hunt around and come up dry for aftermarket options, do any of you know if there are any out there and if so - Where? Really want to make this look a little better than the stock stuff, so anything you can point out would be great. Cheers, James
  18. I posted this a few days ago in the 'decals' forum, but haven't had a response- I figure I asked in the wrong place so hopefully you'll forgive me posting it here instead: Can anyone guide me as to what markings an RAF staff car would have in November 1940 and where I might be able to buy the matching decals? I'm finishing an Austin 8 in 1:72 and drawing a blank on what the markings should be- I can find a number of images through Google but most of them seem to be modern restorations with a variety of markings and I'm not knowledgeable enough to tell fish from fowl. TIA Adrian
  19. News from EagleCal showing the newest decals for the Mosquito Mk VI which will be available in 72, 48 and 32 scales. Considering also the 24th scale as well, Enjoy! http://www.eagle-editions.com/decal-page/?___store=default
  20. Hi everyone, "Attach Before Flight" from the Netherlands just brought out a new screen printed decal for Air New Zealand's A320 in 1/144th scale. http://www.usatoday.com/story/todayinthesky/2014/02/27/air-new-zealand-bullish-on-future-after-record-profit/5857981/ I found out about it on ARC. That's where you also get to see appropriate details on the product. Cheers, Niki L.E.: now I see it's being discussed over at Airlinercafe also...
  21. Hi all, I've been commissioned to build a 1977 Jubilee year red arrows line up using the new 1/48 Airfix Folland Gnat tooling - all 10 aircraft. The new kit does include the correct scheme for one aircraft. Does anyone know of a decal set available with suitable code numbers of the remainders? Any info would be very much appreciated! Regards, DaveO
  22. ...that next to the engines, that is! Hi chaps, I was just browsing through Pointerdog7's decal list and from doing a bit of on-line research I got to discover this picture: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Uganda_Airlines_Boeing_707_Groves-1.jpg Can anyone please tell me what that pod hanging near the wing to fuselage join is? Was there another example hanging on the opposite side? Any detail pictures of it anywhere? I was pondering about what livery to use on my first 707 and this looks kind of interesting. I also noticed that there were at least two slightly different liveries worn by Uganda Airlines 707s: the one pictured above and this: Is the livery as shown by the Pointerdog decals the second (final) one? Any idea what year the font and tail design got changed? Thank you! Cheers, Niki
  23. Hi all, i am searching for good and well printed roundels and markings for RFC birds, like the Camel and especially the S.E.5.A, any ideas ? Best Regards Bernd
  24. Good day everyone out there! I bought the said kit last year and it goes along nicely with my slowly growing collection of Russian Airliners. My first was the gorgeous TU-154 but this was ruined by the utterly poor decals. I have decided that I would like a fleet of Aeroflot aircraft in the silver and blue livery, so with that regard has anyone used the kit decals with the Zvesda A-320? They do look alot better than what I have come accros before, and are certainly alot better defined. My problem is I don't want to risk a repeat of my 154 fiasco after spending ages masking and spraying. So has anyone used the kit decals and how successful were they? Much obliged Bob
  25. Good morning everyone, My lovely wife has decided to buy me a copy of the 1/32 Hawker Hunter by Revell because just because. I want to paint it up in Indian Air Force colours but have not been able to find any appropriate decals in this scale after an evening spent searching. Do any of you fine modellers, artists and plastic craftsmen and engineers know of any I may have missed. Also, is there any good aftermarket for the aircraft, and more importantly does it need it? Cheers and thank you ladies and gentlemen, any help and guidance you can provide will be very gratefully recieved indeed, I remain, your most obedient servant etc. etc, Viv PS: why do two and a half year olds wake you up so early? Why? Edit: for early morning typos
