  1. The following article popped up in my Facebook feed the other day, it's about cleaning up and "detailing" as in polishing model cars. It's more about diecast models but might work for plastic kits, especially if painted with automotive paint. I didn't want to post the article without trying it myself and I happened to find a Bburago Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa that I built from a kit a long time ago. I think I was a teenager, no idea if you can even buy these kits any more. Link here to article. Here it is in "barn find" condition having sat in an open box in my loft for several years: I must have made this thirty years ago or so. I tried to add some painted detail to the interior tub (moulded in gloss black plastic I think). The advice is to use air duster to blow away dust then fine brushes (the following picture shows after dust removal). Then use an automotive quick detailer spray and a microfibre cloth to clean and polish (hopefully you can see the difference between the two halves of the rear deck). You can see how much dust was picked up and the spray used Finally in the "photo studio" This last one is my own invention; I created a black "infinity cove" with three black storage cases, illuminated with my desk lamp.
  2. Hi all! I was wondering if anyone here uses this cleaning pot? or something similar? I had bought one but, never used it. Ive always wondered do you fill it up with some thinner first? Box says water, but since I use a lot of enamels doesnt make sense (water and white spirit based oil paints dont mix). Also if i use it for spraying acrylic AND enamels.. (one is water based and the other is white spirit based).. there is going to be a big mess of oil bubbles and water in the end. Was thinking of having one for enamels/laquer and another for acrylic.
  3. I use the overal present computer keyboard cleaning foam (which is of a really ugly green colour) to clean the surface of a model before priming. Designed od desinfact the keyboards it also very thorougly pulls dirt and dust out of river holes and panel lines. Just roll it over the surface and it reaches very deeply into panel lines. The product I use is Swiss (of course made i China), called Cyber Clean (cyberclean.net) and it works great. However, don't forget to clean the surface after that with mildy soapy water before priming. Good luck!
  4. I'm flitting between enamels & acrylics as I get more into my airbrush. I've been using rattle can cleaner, which seems to strip everything (including dissolving the nitrile disposable gloves I was wearing!) but I've got some Vallejo airbrush cleaner on order. Will this work if I switch back to enamel, as I did this afternoon? Thx & happy Christmas one & all Andrew
