  1. Ready for inspection, my A-4M, which has kept occupied for the past 2.5 months. This is out of the box except for the added weapons, and a few scratch built details in the landing gear and ejection seat. The centreline multi-ejector rack and Mk 82 bombs are from Hasegawa's weapons set A. The Sidewinders are spare Matra 550s from a Kinetic kit, modified to look like AIM-9Hs. I have kept the weathering light, to resemble what I saw in most photos of Skyhawks from this squadron and era. For more photos, and a few tips on the build, check my web page (link in my signature below).
  2. Hello all ... this will be my first WIP. I joined here in June and have been considering what to do for my first WIP. I almost did it with my EE Lightning or Fg.1 Phantom builds. And when I put those planes in the RFI section i will incorporate a few photo’s of the builds. So on to this one, I won’t lie I've been a fan of Naval and Marine Aircraft my whole life. And the “Sheep” hold a special place in my heart. So i have several builds of corsairs in particular. This will be my first “Sheep” jet build. My first Scooter since highschool 30 yrs ago. My first WIP And so on. Im using the Hasegawa 1/48 A-4K “Kiwi” scooter for this build. I have the A-4E instructions downloaded so i can backdate this correctly. I also have about 200 photos of A-4E’s. I had some help from fellow members. Thank you @Finn, @Antoine, @Creepy Pete, & @72modeler. I will be using the incredibly good AOA Decals which i was lucky enough to grab when they came out in Feburary. I happen to have a cutting edge cockpit that will be used. True the markings are for a “C”. Yes most official records say the “Sheep” didn’t get “E’s” until ‘69-‘70. However I have found some written evidence in the form of pilots logbooks and Squadron histories and one photograph to go with. I know the “Rivet Counters” will now start having seisures, Please don’t. I respect your dedication to detail. But i can’t do that anymore and i won’t as it cost me 10 years away from this hobby. Anyone thats seen my posts knows I'm not that concerned about microscopic details. I believe the build is the fun part of our hobby as in reality it is supposed to be fun. Below are the first few photo’s of the Actual kit box from Hasegawa ⬇️ The decals i plan on using from AOA which i Have to say look very good and detailed. Anyone used them before ? I haven't had the oppurtunity yet. So any input from the gallery is welcome ? That goes for comments, tips, kit info, and jokes 😜 also. The actual squadron markings ↕️ The Pit & Bang seat are from cutting edge. I have tons of stuff from my friend who gave me his stash when he moved. He didnt want to transport it a 1000 miles so i benefitted. Thank you my friend. The Pit & Bang seat ⬆️ And Instrument panel so far ⬇️ As you can see I’ve gotten the ball rolling and so far so good 👍 I will add the instrument panel and weight to the nose tonight. If you noticed i didn't place the pedals in the hole. Thats on purpose, if you notice the distance the pilot would have to e about 8’ tall if i used Hasegawa’s mounting hole. As it is he’d have to be about 6’5” or so. Anyone have a rough idea of how much weight ? The Bang seat is just sitting in there and both it and the control column will be put in at the very end so as not to damage either. All the holes are opened and ready to go. Oh well enough for now Comments ? Questions ?
  3. Hi Folks, Now that College is over for the year, I've got a little bit more free time. Can't resist a bit of model making despite the good weather, so here goes... Hasegawa 1/72 AV-8B Harrier II A nice looking kit that hardly gets built, with good reason some might say... From memory, the kit builds up well but it does have a few glaring issues. This is one of the 'limited edition' pricejacker kits of a variant that hardly gets seen and in these markings too. A nice box photo, I'll use this to get an idea of weathering. New parts/decals: Surprisingly, this kit has most parts for both Plus and Night Attack variants. The decals are pretty good too and are printed in a cool blue/grey colour, the box photo hints at the same colours for the markings and I think these jets were aboard an Amphibious Assault Carrier as the 'ET' tailcode is usually reserved for the 'Flying Tigers' helicopter squadron Annoyingly, Hasegawa never seems too bothered about updating the early AV-8B cockpit console of the 'real world' kits, the Plus, Night Attack and GR's have 2 digital screens. Their computer game inspired AV-8B Plus Idolmaster kit, with the animation characters plastered all over it, has the updated cockpit. Make of that what you will... Best to press on: Moaning aside it's onto the kit. Got a few of the weapons sets to load up the jet, I'm thinking of a Litening pod, Zuni rocket pod and either x2 500lb LGB's or x2 500lb JDAMS. Other suggestions are welcome... I'll build this Harrier in-flight, primarily due to the speedbrake being moulded closed... I'll have to scrounge a pilot from somewhere too. I'll also be dipping into this side project, an open speedbrake 'plug', as I would like to build more Harriers in the future. I've used the Quickboost resin set before but I find it quite tricky to work with, so I'll make my own instead!!! The GR.3 insert comes from the Hasegawa kit and that will be built into one of the YAV-8B prototypes in the future... Back to the build. All the parts needed to be painted before I can join the fuselage halves. BTW, I kidnapped a pilot from a Fujimi F-14 kit, superb detail I have to say and he/she is wearing U.S. Navy gear too. Super. More to follow soon, thanks for looking and enjoy the weather.
