  1. Well as a bit of a MOJO restorer I am making a start on this one with York nearing completion hopefully by next week for Perth Scot Nat's and Great Western having some fit issues also other things from real life I need to get back at the bench but in short bursts with a puppy to train and not much time on my hands for now. I know @Faraway built this kit a couple of years back when it first came out and I liked the look of it, so it has been in the stash for only a little while now and it looks like a short build one (Famous Last Words) So made up the hull and some of the superstructure parts and the main guns for now we will see how far I can get with this out of the box. Thinking of going with the green lower hull colour rather than the red oxide one. Stay Safe beefy
  2. Hi Everyone, Here is a model I finished in the end of 2023. As sunny spring days started - now it becomes easier to make photosessions so I'll try to catch up with some more models completed in 2023. No surprise - it is a classical Trumpeter 1/72 kit of a venerable USAF aircraft that saw super extensive use in the war in Vietnam - naturally in its classical SEA camo scheme. What I've chosen as a prototype - is a fairly well known F-105D of 354th TFS/355th TFW stationed at Takhli airbase in Thailand in circa 1967. This particular aircraft was decorated with a 'Honeypot II' nick name and had one MiG interception marking. Main duty of 355th Fighter Wing in Vietnam was carrying bombing missions from Thailand to various targets across North Vietnam. Something 355th TFW was doing for five long years between 1966 and 1970. I've long been thinking of more unusual bombload options but after all stopped with a very classical option of 6 mk.82 bombs on the fuselage MER, a Sidewinder on a starboard wing and a jamming pod on the port wing. Trumpeter kit is fairly simple and straightforward if built out of the box. However I did not look for easy paths and brought some aftermarket stuff and scratch built mods. First of all I obtained and used Aires cockpit set. It worked quite finely. It did require cleaning and thinning fuselage sides but at the end sat properly into right place. Cockpit set had enough photoetch parts to get even nicer result with detailed instrument panel, seat harness, etc. Other aftermarket mods included Quickboost afterburner air intakes, ventral fin, coloured wing tips, Master pitot tube, Reskit wheels. All worked finely except for wing tips which turned out to be thinner than the wing and I spent quite a lot of time sanding and puttying the joint line. Hand-made mods included some decorations in main gear bays, new centerline pylon and reinforcement stripes for MER, new pylon for Sidewinder, some minor additions such as internal side of speed brake behind the tail, correct positioning of engine pipe (Trumpeter suggests to put it too deeply), couple of antennae. I used Hasegawa weapon sets to get MER, mk.82 bombs, jamming pod and a Sidewinder. Paints are typical Hobby Color for SEA camo. Brown colour is heavily whitened H310. H303 and H309 for greens. H311 for FS36622. Undercarriage bays are vallejo green zinc chromate. Jamming pod and AIM-9 are painted Vallejo white. Decals are from PrintScale. I was very cautious about using them but in fact they turned out quite okay. Thin, strong - did not break apart. Despite experience of other modellers, they did not tend to wrap around themselves. So I was positively impressed. Printscale set also had necessary stencils so I do not think I used any original Trumpeter decals. Some final touches were made with Tamiya pigments to add a little dirty look especially on the undersides. And some close up photoes: Thanks for watching! Kind regards, Dennis
  3. I´m doing afv not that often, but from time to time some topics come to my mind and bring a kit on my bench. This time all started on our way to Euro Model Expo in Lingen when we passes a convoy from German Army with some TPz Fuchs and Fenneks. If you see this vehicle from the lowered position of your co driver seat, it's just impressive. So the next day three of us purchased the 1/72 Trumpi kit.😂 And here we go... I´m doing the Netherlands version as mentioned in the titel. It will get it´s standard Nato camouflage and will find it´s place on an small base at the end. At the beginning the major parts for the interior were put together and some details as the seatbelts were added. The windscreen has some massive connections between the front and side windows. When dry fitting they were clearly visible from the outside and I´m not sure the outer frames will hide them at the end. So I cut the windscreen into three and sanded and polished it again to get rid of these problem. I used green for the interior but I´m not sure if it´s right at all. Most pics i found on the net shows German Fenneks and the looks overal green but on some pics from Dutch Fenneks it seems there are also a lot of white or light grey. Anyway, in that small scale you will not see that much at the end and I´m not even sure if I will open or close the doors at the end. All put together with some dirt added looks quite okay for me. So far for now, I hope your interested in the little fox.
  4. My first surface ship and first go at an ocean. I'll be doing more, a nice break from a lifetime of aircraft. White Ensign PE set. Inspiration for ocean and technique credit to "Studio Blue Ocean" of Youtube Things I have leaned from this project 1) rigging is hard 2) I still hate photoetch 3) creating the sea was as satisfying as the ship, but I unsealed her, ripped her out and repainted the hull and the entire sea 3 times before I was happy. I know she is supposed to fly a black flag from the rear mast but I forgot. I will get around to it! Shot against white card outside with sun dipping in & out of cloud, the white balance was doing odd things but you get the gist. Thanks for looking!
  5. Hello everyone, My first post to the armour forum and the first armour model I had done. I completed this Trumpeter KV-2 in the summer of 2022, so it's a couple of years out of date. Nevertheless, I figured I'll start from the beginning. These were taken before I was putting much thought into getting multiple angles in my photos, so I apologize for the lack of any rear views. This being my first tank model, I wasn't entirely sure what to expect. Having made several more now, I'm glad I started with a Trumpeter build. The fit of the pieces was all good, but the treads did snap on me at the time (I still have terrible luck with the single-piece rubber treads; any advice on fitting these would be much appreciated). This little guy was painted in Tamiya's German Grey and given a quick dry brush of silver to simulate some wear and tear. I've since moved onto more sophisticated and time-consuming weathering techniques, but I still think the results are decent for such a quick go-over. This was made before I discovered filters, chipping, washes or really anything outside of an initial acrylic paint layer. I believe this was made shortly after I bought my first airbrush (and that was revolutionary enough!). Any feedback or advice is welcome! I'm still fairly new to armour modelling, so while I have improved since this build, I'm still open to any suggestions. Stan
  6. Good morning all. I have decided to join the fray with a Trumpeter De Havilland Vampire FB5 which I have glued a few pieces together, but not much, Will using some decals from Xtradecal X48124 for an FB5 from 71 Eagle Squadron, RAF Gutersloh, West Germany, `1951. I also have a Pavla resin seat and Peewit masking set. I think the hardest part of building a Vampire is getting enough weight in the nose and cutting the underwing serials over the undercarriage doors! A couple of pics,,,,, Grahame
  7. I built this massive Trumpeter U-boat (1/48) and although I’d always planned putting it on a nice wooden plynth, I had this mad idea about putting it “in the sea”. I’ve never worked with any kind of diorama before, and especially resin, but I was wondering what your thoughts were. As the boat is clear and lit one side below the waterline I thought it’d be cool to “float” the whole ship in tinted resin, with sea texture on top, so top-down looks like she’s a normal solid ship, but a side view from starboard would show the illuminated interior. Anyone ever seen anything like this before? I think I can make her watertight to keep the resin out, but fag packet calculation suggests I’d need about 40L of resin which might kill the project as I’d be looking at £00’s at hobby shop prices, but whether it’d be possible to texture the sea on top once she’s set in the resin without damaging the boat. I’d also have to find a way of minimising the appearance of the wires protruding from the keel as well, but that’s minor compared to the above. Any thoughts appreciated.
  8. Hello, after a long hiatus, I came back to modelling and chose the KV-2 from Trumpeter being the beast of choice to tackle. Over the course of years, I have bought some aftermarket stuff (with varying levels of usability, to be honest). Here is the lineup of the accessories - well DEFINITELY NOT all of them were really of any value. And I am speaking speaking specifically about YOU -> FC Model Trend! And here is the current status - still before the final small stuff to be added. Also, I am pretty sure that the next "surfacer-phase" will bring some new challenges (i.e. consequences of my two-left-hands) to tackle :-) I added acetylene-torch marks on all major armor-plates, both on hull as well as the turret. Although the kit brings some nice and subtle welds, they were missing at the aft curved armour. There I made use of my old stock of the Archer dry transfers to replicate the weld beads. The tracks in the kit were hammered with ejector pin-marks, which I wasn't really willing to sand, so opted for the Friulmodel ATL-10 link-to-link tracks instead. IMHO they really look better than the Trumpeter-tracks, but they also add the "extra heft" to the model (which for some reason I like 😉 ) The gun barrel from ABER 35L-44 is in my opinion a "must-have". It is perfectly turned, but also has that "hidden detail" of barrel thread, which, considering the size of the 152 mm howitzer, is really visible on the model. I opted for the FC Model Trend screens and exhausts. Honestly speaking - only the screens were so-so usable. The exhaust stacks were marred by crude print-marks and I am not sure, they added any value over the kit exhausts... The large Eduard 35825 PE sheet contains some useful details, but overall the detail of kit is really remarkable. For example - I did opt for kit´s real deflector, since the kit part IMHO represents the structure of the part better than PE replacement. Still, the Eduard set contains a lot of details for further KV-1 tanks, so they will find use at future projects. I added also some cabling behind the horn and light, based on pictures from surviving museum exhibits. There is still some work to be done - like MGs, towing-cable holders, etc. Next step would be to spray the kit with Surfacer 1200 and repair a plethora of issues I expect to find. Wish me luck!
  9. Hello everyone.👋 Trumpeter's late version Tiger I in 1/35 scale is ready to be primed. I can only recommend this kit. For reasonable money it offers a lot of details including zimmerit which is easy to work with because it is made of thin plastic sheets. Its perfect regularity and thickness are targets of criticism, but I chose the kit precisely because of it (really easy to work with). Figures are from HobbyBoss. The loader and commander have aftermarket heads from Alpine Miniatures (faithful copies from AliExpress 💶). : Some inspiration:

  15. Hi all Here is my 1:48 L-39ZA by Trumpeter (05805) l started this back in September 2023 and finished it on New Year’s Day! I should of had it finished back in November 23 but had an disaster with the canopies which resulted in me having to order replacements. Anyway as with all my builds of 2023 this was another kit that was picked out of the stash by my wife for me to build. I brought a few aftermarket items for this build, Eduard cockpit photo etch set (FE920) Eduard seatbelts (FE921) Eduard TFace canopy masks (EX612) Quickboost L-39ZA Gun Pod (QB48 858) Quickboost L-39ZA Pylons (QB48 855) Reskit L-39 Wheel set (RS48-0210) Master pitot tubes (AM-48-106). I decided on aftermarket decals from Model Maker Decals (L-39ZA 30 Years in Bulgarian Service (MMD-D48109) I used Life colour paints for the first time on this build and can’t say I was overly impressed with them. Tamiya paints also used Thanks for looking and Happy Modelling
  16. I hadn't put my name down on the list, but hoping I can sneak in with this project I've been meaning to do for a while. Trumpeter Wellington III in 1/72. I'm planning to build it in markings of an aircraft flying out of No.12 Operational Training Unit, Chipping Warden: Z1732, FQ-S. My late father was stationed there as groundcrew during the last couple of years of WWII, and this is as close as I've been able to get to an actual aircraft that he might well have known and even worked on.
  17. This is a neat little kit. It has about 17 parts in a very oversized box, and it's quite expensive in the UK: I was inspired by this video of the 1/35th scale kit: ...to try to create a well-used agricultural tractor. Let's see how it goes. John
  18. Having completed my builds for the P-47 STGB, I am now down to two ongoing projects! I have not had so few ongoing projects since I returned to the hobby twenty years ago!!! To keep me amused for the next couple of weeks before the 2024 GB madness kicks off, I really fancy building this: the brand new Trumpeter 1/72 Grumman A-6A Intruder. It's really quite exciting. I have never built an A-6 before but have always wanted to. As you will see, the kit provides the options of building it with wings folded or wings extended with everything dropped: flaps, slats, spoilers - you name it. If it sticks out of the wing, this kit lets you build it deployed! I think I will build it as ready for a mission: lots of ordnance, flaps, slats, airbrakes and boarding ladders deployed but spoilers retracted. I have commented on this kit in the relevant Rumourmonger thread, so I will repeat what I said here. There is a lot of plastic in the box, which was smaller than I expected. This means that the sprues are packed very tightly. Some of them are wrapped with extra protection. Sometimes that doesn't help because everythng is so tightly packed. An example is the Trumpeter Mig-29, where the canopy was broken despite being carefully packed. . The A-6 canopy seems intact however. There are some odd choices with the ordnance. There are two MERs (despite four being shown on the box art). There are enough bombs to fill one with MK 82s and the other with MK 81s. Very odd. There are eight MK 20 CBUs and two M177s. There are also two GBU-8s but the less said about them, the better. They are vastly underscale. In 1/72 they should be 50mm long. They are actually 33mm long making them about 1/90 scale. The disappointing ordnance seems to be a recurring motif with Trumpyboss kits but it's not the end of the world. Extra MERs and MK 82s aren't exactly difficult to find. The ordnance issues notwithstanding, the actual aicraft parts look very good indeed with the notable exception of the fin cap. This is the same incorrect shape as that of the 1/32 kit. However.... a couple of minutes with a file or a sanding stick should rectify the situation.
  19. Hello there! Let me introduce you to my latest completed model from Trumpeter - the mighty Spiteful. The kit has many flaws and a few really serious problems too, which were discussed here before. I tried to cover most of them, but some were just really tricky to repair (eg. wheel bays or wing roots). I wanted to recreate the actual machine from the photos which I have, so please don't be taken aback with the surface finish - those prototypes and testing machines were really shiny and clean. I tried to recreate the oil leak from the engine on the starboard side of the fuselage and, of course, on the belly. The most difficult part were remaking of the canopy rim with the aluminium tape and reducing air intakes almost half of it's height. The airscrew is also adjusted to a better shape. Roundels are from Xtradecal and Tamiya acryl paints were used. Even though the kit is not perfect by far, I still quite enjoyed building it. I hope you'll like it. Thanks for watching! Cheers, Andrew
  20. Next up is the story of Moritz. Better known as Sturer Emil or Selbstfahrlafette auf VK 30.01(H) Moritz was one of two Sturer Emils that were build and saw combat on the eastern front during the offensive to Stalingrad. Moritz claimed 22 kills before he was left behind by it's crew. The Russians claimed the vehicle and it exists to this day in the Kubinka tank museum. i bought the Trumpeter kit. The sprue count is low. Parts look crisp, little to no flash visible. I ordered 2 figures from Alpine to add to the model. Mainly to show the size of the Tank. This time i made shure i ordered the real ones 😉 So, i think this will be a fun project. No diorama this time. Maybe a simple base but nothing too fancy. Well, that's all the info and progress for now. If you want to tag along, go ahead. The more, the merrier. Cheers guys! 🍻🍻🍻
  21. So the canopy that comes with the 1/48 is missing the central strut after some research it seems that the only mig-23 variant that has the canopy missing the central strut is the 23S which is an extremely early version, seems like trumpeter includes the correct canopy for all of their other 1/48 mig-23s but I couldn't find any of the other variants on sale without having to import from overseas. With only having the 23M as an option is there any (simple) way I could fix it so that it's the correct shape? Considered using 0.3mm styrene sheets or the left over material from photoetch. Did also try to see if I could find any aftermarkets that could fix the canopy but alas no results popped up.
  22. In my eyes, the WZ-10 belongs in the top ten of Science Fiction looking hardware. This is the new Trumpeter 1/48 kit; the quality is overall excellent with an abundance of surface details and good fit. What started as straightforward OOB build got a bit bogged down when I stumbled upon a thread on SinoDefenceForum with an abundance of high resolution photos from every angle. In the end, I added only tiny details: Brake lines for the front legs, support struts for the wire cutters and the antenna along the spine. The rest of the detail work was all about painting & decal placement (the instructions are somewhat vague here). Some details were added in the cockpit, including pilots carved from Hasegawa Navy drivers. The main rotor head is slightly inaccurate, but once treated with painted details and a wash looks convincing enough. I think it is a french desing, so there might actually be aftermarket parts for it. The mechanism of the tail rotor is a simple disc, and I cut it into kind of an X-shape to bring it closer to the real thing. Paints are custom mixed Tamiya acrylics over a black base coat and Vallejo Metal Color. Thanks for watching & all the inspiration.
