  1. So The StuG III...... I think this vehicle does not need an introduction so i'm not going to entertain you guys with a history lecture 😉 I bought the RFM version with full interior. And yes..... there are a lot of sprues!!! And by a lot, i mean a LOT! A first glance over the sprues show a lot of detail on the parts. On the bigger parts there is some excess sprue and there are a lot of ejector pinmarks. The plastic itself is quite soft. On the smaller parts that means i have to be very carefull. The hull is assembled, no issues there. Lot of small parts so i took my time, dryfitting every part to make sure the fit was right. As with all my builds i will show the progress in this build log. Feel free to tag along. As always your time, comments and tips are much appriciated. I'll keep you guys posted 👍👍👍
  2. 1/12 StuG IIIG SCRATCH BUILD After building a 1/24 scratch built Maus I wanted to build something with a bit more detail and in a bigger scale. I decided to go for a StuG IIIG late war with Zimmerit, Schurzen and ultimately crew as it will become a diorama. Here's some photos of the fighting compartment and engine deck which were 3D printed. This is where I'm at so far. Now to start adding some detail. There's also a video on YouTube where you can see more of the process HERE
  3. Sturmgeschütz III on the Battlefield 5 World War Two Photobook Series (9786155583179) Peko Publishing The Sturmgeschütz, or StuG for short was a turretless armoured tank destroyer from WWII that was part of a successful line of ambush predators employed by Nazi Germany against enemy tanks. The StuG III was unsurprisingly based upon the chassis of the Panzer III, with the upper hull and turret removed and replaced by a low-profile casemate on the front half and a flat engine deck at the rear. The casemate was filled with a 75mm gun that was adapted to the chassis with -10 to +20 elevation and 12 degrees of traverse before the driver would need to reposition. It was eventually upgraded to a longer barrel that offered higher muzzle velocity for a more powerful punch, which coupled with the low profile made it perfect for laying in wait for Allied convoys, taking a heavy toll before the element of surprise was lost. It was later superseded by the Jagdpanzer IV, Jagdpanther and Jagdtiger, but it remained in service until the end of the war. This new volume from PeKo's World War Two Photobook Series, and as the name suggests it is primarily a book of photos, which isn't too difficult to divine. Although this is Volume 5 of the set it still covers the earlier variants with their shorter barrels as well as the more mature variants of the StuG, beginning with the Ausf.A and carrying on through C/D/F to Ausf.G with all the variations in fit and finish between the main factories that were engaged in construction of this important and numerous piece of German WWII armour. It is hardback bound with 112 pages between two blank inner leaves, finished in an overall white cover, and arriving protected by a layer of shrink-wrap that also helps keep out dirt. The photos are almost without exception full page, with space left only for the captions, which are in Hungarian and English, each one adding valuable insight to the photo, which may not be immediately apparent without it. For the modeller there are plenty of diorama possibilities, as well as opportunities to see how the crews actually stowed their gear on their vehicles (or otherwise) in real-world circumstances. Seeing how they come apart when blown up is also useful for diorama purposes, but thankfully there are no grisly scenes accompanying the destroyed vehicles. Quite a few of the photos are from private collections with attributions in the top corner as appropriate, with substantial quantities of soldiers standing in front of damaged or abandoned vehicles between or after the fighting is over, plus a number of groups investigating the wreckage after a cataclysmic explosion of the tank's magazine, or demolition by the escaping crew. There are also a number of maintenance scenarios with the Maybach engine in or in the process of being removed for serious repairs or replacement. While the contemporary photos are in black and white as expected due to the scarcity and expense of colour film at the time, the detail in which they are depicted would be an absolute boon to any AFV enthusiast or modeller, especially those wishing to go down the route of realism and authentic settings. Conclusion Whether you have the models that you intend to use this book for reference, or have an interest in the subject, this book will give you all the reference pictures and some besides, as well as some inspiration for dioramas. Highly recommended. Review sample courtesy of
  4. Hey there, It's been a while since a have made a post... well, here I'm with a small beast: a Stug IV from Italeri, 1/35 scale. Is the first tank that I make since I was a little boy, and it is very grateful to do, I mean, I use to make Airplanes and when you have the freedom to make a more "dirty" work it feels good. The kit is really good, it comes with some PE parts an a metal canon barrel, separated track links, and a really good details in general. I had only added an MG34 from Dragon to upgrade him. For about 30€ is a very recomendable kit. And, here is he:
  5. Finished the build at last. Pics of the finished product, with and without figures.
  6. The is the 1/76 Airfix "Assault Gun" from a very old bagged kit. For it's age it is nicely detailed. A few bits were added from the Fujimi kit like mg, v-scope and rear deck wheels.
  7. After almost 50 years of modelling (mostly aircraft, but also ships, cars, railways) at last I decided to build a small collection of AFVs in 1/72. Frankly speaking somewhere deep in the 70s or 80s I have built two or three such models (Centurion, Patton and 155mm M40 IIRC), but the time goes by and new kits appear every year. As a newbie in this ocean of modelling I would like to know your opinion which kits of several WW2 AFVs are the best on the market now. I'm not a rivet-counter, but correct shape and sharp surface detail are more important for me than sheer number of parts, opened hatches and detailed interior. So which kit would you buy to model the : Sturmgeschutz III Ausf. G (ESCI/Hasegawa/Italeri, Revell, Dragon, Trumpeter) T-34-76 (ESCI/Hasegawa/Italeri, Revell, AER/Toga/Parc, Zvezda, Trumpeter, Dragon, Unimodels, Eastern Express) T-26 (SKIF/Unimodels, Mirage, S-model, Pegasus) M4 Sherman - original variant, not M4A and later (Dragon, Italeri, Trumpeter, Heller) M3 Stuart - also "plain" M3, neither M3A nor M5 (Hasegawa/Revell, Alanger, Mirage) Eager to hear your opinion
  8. Here's my latest, Dragons StuG III Ausf A, the 1996 "Whittman" release. I've added Eduards photoetch, and scratchbuilt the tow cable, shackle pins, gun cleaning rods, jack block. It's painted with Tamiya acrylics, marked with "Star" decals "Sturm pt 1" decals, and weathered with oils, ground up watercolors, and pastels. Hope you like it, Colin
  9. On my bench now is the original 1996 issue of Dragons StuG III ausf A. It's finished in the original RAL 7017 (Signal brown) over Panzer grey. I'll be using "Star decals" "STURM!" decal set. I've added part of Eduards photoetch set, and scratch built the tow cable (from fine solder), the jacking block, and the 4 tow shackle pins (hanging on their chains in above photo). I've also made the 5 smoke canisters from sprue, with chains twisted from fine copper wire. Hopefully it will be finished in a week or so ... hope you enjoy. Colin
  10. Build 12 Another of the little 1/100 armour kits from Zvezda that I hope will prove that although it's small, doesn't mean it can't bee a great model Price: £2.99 from Antics
  11. Hello! I have just finished my very first model kit - The german Sturmgeschütz IV from Tamiya. I enjoyed this set very much and it was a fun build. i spent two nights building it, without any problems. the pieces fit well, and the only thing missing is the painting. i will get to painting when i get the money to buy some. Anyways, here are the pictures: Sorry for the bad quality of my camera. Instead of installing the sideplates, i added logs (sticks from a bush) to the right side of the tank. i'm going to make a diorama for this later on, which i want to be in a forrest area. Hope you liked the model kit, as it is the first one i've built. i'm happy with it myself and i hope you are too!
  12. Hello !! I show you my AFV vehicles. The kits are from Dragon. Take a look please PZ III H Afrika! Thanks for watching!
