  1. HobbyBoss next 1/48th "Flanker" is a Sukhoi Su-27UB "Flanker-C" - ref.81713 Release expected in late September 2017 Source: http://www.hobbyboss.com/index.php?g=home&m=article&a=show&id=95&l=en Box art V.P.
  2. So much hype around Zvezda's Flanker kits that I can't resist giving them a shot, especially if there's a group build involved Note: this is the SIXTH straight Russian/Soviet aircraft that I build. I've probably not had a similar streak before for a single country. This kit comes after a 1/48 Eduard I-16, two Trumpeter MiG-29s (S, and SMT), a Zvezda MiG-29S, and a KP MiG-23M. First impressions out of the box: huge aircraft! lots of pieces! Accuracy of this kit seems very well regarded by the BM community so I won't contest that. I do spot some issues: 1) Lack of cockpit detailing (decals, although they are admittedly quite nice) 2) Lack of ANY rivets. C'mon Zvezda, a few would have been nice. This is a huge aircraft and with such big panels, it could have used some rivets here and there. 3) The canopy while not terrible (like some Revell kits) isn't super smooth. I had a similar observation with their MiG-29S. 4) Wheel well detail is very poor, especially for the front: Zvezda basically didn't bother with this. Anyway, let's get started. I used AKAN for the unique Flanker cockpit color which looks spot on The cockpit decal is quite nice although detailing would have been better. The sparse wheel well detail is somewhat evident too.
  3. Hello, As I'm seeing a Hobbyboss Su-27 Flanker B happening on my desk in the near future, I was wondering if any of you would happen to have more information about the position, color and -most importantly - blinking frequencies of the lights? Many thanks in advance! Cristian
  4. Hello, just few weeks ago i finished Su-27 from Academy. I used HDL Decals, Eduard Pe set, Correct Nose from QB and Pavla K-36M Zvezda, also i added a wires on landing gears and wheelbays. Just like always my Su-27 has got few mistakes (i broken canopy, the color and paint scheme are incorrect. Another mistake is incorrect Nose paint scheme (it should be straight, and i made paint it curve). I hope you will enjoy.
  5. Hey Guys Just got the Trumpeter Su-27UB 1/72. The kit looks great and instructions are ok. But when i checked the paint and marking guide things got confusing. I mean... The Intermediate Blue (H72) looks gray and the Pearl Grey (H74) looks too blue. Pearl Grey doesn't even exist on Mr. Hobby color range. Looking some walkarounds i realise that intermediate blue isn't the base color of the plane as the trumpeter instructions http://www.trumpeter-china.com/Uploads/201509/560b2eb547e36.jpg I need some help. Where i can get any real and good color scheme for this Su-27UB Flanker C? Thanks
  6. The new product presents full-open nozzles, as we can see on real aircraft shut down engines. The nozzles have correct scale size and fit 1/48 Hobby Boss Su-27 family. There are molded parts as is. The same parts painted to accent details. Nozzle on 1/48 Hobby Boss Su-27. The set will be available in a week.
  7. Up next on the workbench, the recently released HobbyBoss rendition of the Su-27 Flanker. I will be adding a resin seat and using decals from Begemot. The kit seat is rather lacking in detail so I'll be using a resin replacement. And progress so far involves the construction of several sub-assemblies including the missiles. The R-73s provided in the kit are too long. I had to lop off the segment aft of the last panel line and attach the thrust vectoring controls to the end of the missiles. And the loadout I will be using: 4 x R-27ERs, 2 x R-27ETs and 4 x R-73s. That's the AA-10 Alamo-C, AA-10 Alamo-D and AA-11 Archer in NATO parlance respectively. Mark
  8. Next HobbyBoss 1/48th Flanker is expected in late November 2016. and it's a Sukhoi Su-30MKK "Flanker-G" - ref.81174 Source:http://www.hobbyboss.com/index.php?g=home&m=article&a=show&id=75&l=en Box art Kostas what have you done? Definitely not your best art work. V.P.
  9. Despite being my favorite modern jet and both being born in 1977 this is only the 2nd flanker kit I've made in 26 years. I have plans to build may more but was drawn to do this two tone bright blue scheme first. Coming off the back of building hurricanes and wildcats you forget how big the damned thing is. This is a fighter that is nearly as long as a Lancaster! This was the first Zvezda kit I have built though it wont be the last, a beautiful kit to build with only a few breakdown compromises to allow other variants to be tooled. Painted using Mr.Color acrylics with a bit of oil paint weathering. Any comments or suggestions welcome
  10. The kit is intended to simulate louvres and meshes on aircraft models Su-27 (and based of its conversions Su-33 and Su-35) in 1/48 scale produced by Academy. All parts have scale precise dimentions, so some modifications of existing models may be necessary. Check the photo reference before applying this set. Made of steel with a thickness of 0.05 mm.
  11. Szervusztok! My F-4ETM is in finish, so I looking for the next challange. I bought it one year ago and after this one year salivation I preparing to start the buildig. Also, the Summer Santa give me a box os Rus. A2G armament. I choose the other painting variant, this a/c belonging to a testing and training unit. I still hesitating on the arming. I going to add some strike congig, but have not decided yet, exactly what. Maybe that one from the box art? Or do a Wild Weasel? In Wild Weasel rola MKK carries up to six(!) X-31 missiles. If not all of the six, but I would happily mount four X-31s just to make it looks like a real strike-fighter. http://chinese-military-aviation.blogspot.hu/p/attack-aircraft.html Also here is written, that MKKs go to patrol with R-77. On this way I think about such a loadout that contains the two ECM pods on the wingtips, two R-37, two R-77 and four X-31, but I am not sure if it is a "clever" choose? Atleast is it may possible at this unit... SU-30MKK serving in other Chineese units I also could find such loadouts: So is it possible that 2+2+2+4 config? Anyway, has anyone references for SU-30MKK cockpit? I tried Google, but how should I know I found exactly MKK cockipt (not MKI or whatever) ?
  12. Hi, built this for a GB on flory Models. Revell boxing with some Eduard etched brass from the Zoom set and the Quickboost nose cone. Used Akan paints, lovely colours but I didn't get on too great with them. Anyway here she is, looks ok from afar!
  13. 1/72 ex-Zvezda Su-27SM Flanker coming soon http://www.revell.de/en/products/model-building/aircraft/military-modern/id/04937.html instructions are online: http://www.revell.de/fileadmin/import/images/bau/04937_%23BAU_SUKHOI_SU-27_SM_FLANKER.PDF
  14. Hi fellow modellers! This is my first post here. For now, I only have pictures of my models finished, so it´s a kind of introduction for me. This is the old heller Su-27 UB. The kit has many fit problems, but overall is very accurate and represents well the shape and dimensions of the Flanker. I tried to make a faded look and I think the result was convincing. the only aftermarket were resin K-36 seats and metal pitot tube. I hope you like it, It was a fun build! Any commentaries and critics are welcomed!!! Best regards from Uruguay! Ignacio
  15. The SU-35BM Flanker-E was my inspiration for this little project. It took me about 4 days. Here is the real jet: And here's my model of it:
  16. OK it's just a box art, but from a future 1/72nd Sukhoi Su-27 KUB "(Sea) Flanker-D" kit - ref.01669 In it's 2014-2015 catalogue ( http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234953185-20142015-trumpeter-hobby-boss-and-mrcmerit-catalogues/?p=1510523 ), Trumpeter announced a Sukhoi Su-33UB "(Sea) Flanker-D" - under ref.01669 - but not a Su-27 KUB. 21. Finished some time ago, after a very long and exhausting build! Academy Su-27 UB Flanker Quickboost nosecone!!! Neomega cockpit, Linden Hill decals "Flankers on Patrol", various missiles, Modified Dream Model + Aires exhausts Here you are: Cool and realisticly looking exhausts.... (Aries are too small, Dream Model too big... so I ,odified both sets to make one pair of nozzles) Hope you like it! One last photo: Cheers, Werner
  22. The latest offering from Northstar Models for September is A set of Resin, Metal & Photoetch exhausts for the Trumpeter 1:32 Flanker. One of the features of the SU-27 are the large engine tunnels housing the Saturn/Lyulka AL-31 Military Turbofans which lead to the exhausts. The eye on the model is drawn to this area as it is on the real aircraft to the multi-hued metal finish in this area. Now kit parts will never replicate the standard modern resin & PE obtain for this area. The Northstar set will make a great deal of difference in this area. The resin, metal & PE combo will take some work to get right, but once built and correctly painted I am sure it will greatly enhance the Trumpeter kit. For more details please visit Northstar Models If you decide to buy some of these then please be sure to tell them you saw them at Britmodeller.
  23. Hi All, Its been a while.....PhD is done now (apart from the viva) and as I have no job currently, there's some time for some modelling. In my grand vision, I will eventually own a collection of detailed and accurate fleet of modern Soviet jets. First up is the Su-27 'Flanker B', and I am using the venerable 1/72 Airfix kit. I felt I owed this kit another go, as I had made a gluey mess of it when I was a kid! I also had the PART photo-etch set, a Pavla resin seat and a Pavla vac-form canopy (the Airfix one is too short). When I get some cash I might get some Aires nozzles for it too. The scale plans that I have from www.airwar.ru show that the Airfix kit is very good in terms of accuracy. It has engraved panel lines, but most of them are wrong so what I am doing at the moment is laboriously rescribing correct lines and adding rivet detail, using photos of Masa Narita's 1/32 Flanker online and photos in Model Airplane International. I have rescribed the main upper fuselage and am part-way through the vertical stablisers. I have also started to detail up the nose gear and the front cockpit coaming, and will get going on the main gear soon. Yes, I am a masochist, but I'm actually enjoying this stage! Here are some pics, not too exciting yet I'm afraid but it hopefully gives a flavour of what I'm up to. Any questions/comments welcome. Cheers James
  24. R-73/AA-11 Archer Guided Missile 1:48 Eduard Brassin (648071) The Russian Vympel R-73 is the latest generation of short-range air-to-air (A2A) missile, which has a reputation for achieving a high kill-ratio in a dogfight, due to its ability to "see" targets well away from its line of flight. The latest variant, the M improves the off-axis targeting and adds some addtional infra-red capability as well as a significant software upgrade, making it a formidable opponent. This set from Eduard arrives in their larger clamshell box, and contains sufficient parts build four of the missiles including the pylon adapters for the Mig-29 and Su-27. Inside the box are the four missile bodies, with the large rear fins moulded in, to which you must add the front steering vanes and either a clear seeker head, or the protective cover they wear when on the ground. At the rear either a cover, or a detailed representation of the simple vectored thrust exhaust are glued, hiding the blank rear of the missile. A number of PE parts are added to the front section of the missiles, resulting in quite a busy looking missile. The launch rails are common between both the Mig and the Sukhoi, but have different spacer blocks installed depending on which aircraft they are to be used on. Once complete and painted, the rail and the missile can be mated during the final phase of building of the host kit. Conclusion The detail on these missiles is excellent, far superior to any kit renditions, and the inclusion of a clear seeker head and the two covers will add some additional realism to your finished model. The detail also extends to the launch rails and adapter blocks, resulting in some very realistic looking ordnance. All that we could wish for in addition would be some stencil decals to assist with the finishing of the missiles and rails. Recommended. Review sample courtesy of
