  1. A bit late to the party, as I don't do a lot of modelling during the summer period 🙂 But let's see where I can get in 2 months time with this "Italian Classic": Italeri's Vespa. The original tooling is from Protar, Scalemates dates this back to end '70s. The kit has also seen an earlier repop by Italeri and one by Revell. Looking online, I came across some great builds of this kit. As I mostly build aircraft/helicopters, something of this size - and on 2 wheels - will definitely be different! Here is the kit's contents, I hope to start the build shortly: Thanks for looking, Patrick
  2. As I mentioned in the chat, I have a bunch of Italian fighters. If it's acceptable to the hosts, I will start a thread for all of them here and post them in the gallery singly if and when I get them finished. If not, let me know, and I will split the thread up accordingly. The two week extension will help! Anyhow, Sword and RS Models, and three Italeri kits that are ineligible for both the "Italian Job " (kits are too new) and "I feel deserted" (schemes are Mediterranean) GBs: The Sword comes in an incredible value double boxing. Here's the remainder of my first boxing plus another double: The first one built up nicely: I have also built the FROG and Supermodel versions: (The Sword is much, much better than either) The boxing has seven schemes; I am going to do two more from the box schemes and a light conversion back to an early one. The RS Model kit looks nice too; I just built their Caudron 714 and it was a fun build: I will get to the Italeri kits later (maybe!). (edit) Just remembered I've got a FROG Macchi 202 downstairs in the stash too!
  3. Having abandoned the Supermodel kit of the Fiat CR.32 due to unbuildable struts, I have obtained the Italeri boxing, which while mostly the original 1973 kit, has had some improvements. Moulding looks overall to be crisper, some cockpit detail in the form of a floor and control column and some sidewall details have been added and most importantly the horrible struts of indistinct length and but jointed to amorphous blobs on the wings have been replaced with much better items with locating pins. I expect to start this one tomorrow and progress should be rapid (🤞). I will be using the Supermodel decals for the Spanish machine as per my original build. I hope to make a better job of the camouflage this time as well. Box and sprue: Thanks for looking. AW
  4. I found this in the stash while looking for something else. I think this was originally an ESCI boxing from the mid 70s although this boxing is from around 2003 according to Scalemates. The ESCI kits are lovely and way ahead of their day for the time, well engineered, lovely moulding and good fit. So this should be fun. one large and one small sand coloured sprues and a sprue with track sections. The latter will take time but will look better than the usual ‘rubber band’ tracks of that era. typical Italeri instructions. with colour call outs and transfers for four versions. One of which is for the 23rd Armoured Brigade in the Western Desert as well as one for an unspecified unit in Gazala.
  5. Hello Britmodellers, Italeri's Mirage 2000C with a few extra bits and decals to make a 2000P. Thanks for watching! Luka
  6. I a long ago wanted to make this armoured car. M3 Scout was closed by an armour by Army of Defensive of Israel. I will use the old model of firm Italeri. A model is a bit begun, but not enough 25%.😉
  7. Joining you with this kit. Italeri Messerschmitt Bf109F at 0857. Cost me £5 at Avon show earlier this month. Parts, untouched. Kit offers these options. For me to build as this aircraft. An exercise in painting this afternoon.
  8. For the first time ever, let alone on a group build, I shall be attempting two kits side by side. A pair of Macchi C.202 Folgore in gorgeous sand/green desert schemes. Wish me luck..!
  9. I needed to call into a local model and kit shop to pick up a couple of paints for an ongoing (forever pausing) build and during my wander around the store i came across this boxed set from Italeri. The store owner said he was selling them on for a customer that simply wasn’t going to build it and for a measly £3 they were mine. I don’t need another kit to build, I’ve more than enough either in my stash or being built to keep me going but for the bargain price of £3 (labelled as £25 from the same store!) I thought it would make for a good side project and diorama. I’ve not built anything like this before and so for I’m liking the scale and detail. Let’s see if I can do it justice!
  10. Lt. Francis Gahan, S/Lt. Alasdair Elder and L/A Peter Mansfield took off in Avenger JZ217, from the escort carrier HMS Trumpeter, with seven other Avengers and the four Wildcats of 846 squadron. This was 4th May 1945 and Operation Judgement - which was to be the last air raid of the war in Europe. HMS Trumpeter in 1945 853 sqn departed HMS Queen with the same mix of Avengers and Wildcats while 882 sqn on HMS Searcher saw twenty Wildcats launch. Their target was a U-boat base in the north of Norway within the Arctic Circle in the natural harbour at Kilbotn. The base consisted of the depot-ship Black Watch, supported by a flak-ship, two barges fitted with anti-aircraft guns and numerous gun emplacements surrounding the harbour. Several other ships were employed in ferrying supplies and ammunition to the base at Kilbotn, including the cargo ship Senja. Four of the Wildcats were assigned to provide top-cover against German fighters, while the majority of the other Wildcats were to arrive at the start of the operation, to attack the gun emplacements on land and in the harbour. The Avengers would then arrive to carry out glide-bombing runs in quick succession, The attack lasted seven minutes and destroyed Black Watch, Senja and also U-711, which had been moored alongside Black Watch. No Norwegians in the village of Kilbotn were killed or injured. Two houses suffered windows blown out and some damaged woodwork from a stray bomb. An Avenger of 846 sqn going in to the attack on Kilbotn Bay. The U-boat depot ship is centre right; a tanker is in the centre, and a flak ship can be seen above the aircraft. The airborne force arriving from the west over Kilbotn at 17:00 on a sunny afternoon, achieved almost complete surprise. Early in the attack a Wildcat of 882 sqn was hit by flak and crashed into the sea. Lt. Hugh Morrison from Wairarapa, New Zealand, Senior Pilot of 882 Squadron, is buried in Narvik New Cemetery. Several other aircraft received flak damage in the next few minutes, most later returning to the carriers, but the attack went according to plan. The main targets of the attack are hidden behind water columns and smoke in the centre of the photo. They were the depot ship Black Watch and the Type VIIC submarine U-711 - both sunk. The ship visible in the centre is probably the Senja, also sunk in this attack. U-711 was the last U-boat sunk by the Fleet Air Arm in WW2. One of the aircraft hit by flak was Avenger JZ217 of 846 Sqn. They tried to make a forced landing on a field but there wasn't sufficient space and they ran into the tree line. Lt. Francis John Gahan RNVR (aged 24), S/Lt. Alasdair Donald Hay Elder RNVR (20) and L/A Peter Bernard Mansfield, Royal Navy (22) were buried by the Germans, assisted by local Norwegians, in the churchyard in the nearby village of Sørvik - where they remain. Francis Gahan is often stated as being 22 years old when he died but his gravestone shows that he was 24. I feel that this is important but I'm not quite sure why. This is my attempt at Avenger JZ217 using the Italeri boxing of the Accurate Miniatures 1:48 kit. The kit has fantastic detail with Italeri having taken all the Accurate Miniatures options and placed them all in one box with a huge decal sheet. My one gripe about Italeri is that they have taken the extensive Accurate Miniatures instructions and removed all the text. The text being replaced by arrows. This approach makes the instructions more accessible but there are a few cases where parts are left hanging in mid air with no arrows. I definitely recommend getting hold of the original Accurate Miniatures instructions. Assembly was mostly straightforward with my main difficulty being (as others have said) the turret – both the assembly and the installation. There was a fair amount of fiddling and fettling involved in that. I added an Eduard p.e. set and a set of their canopy masks (there is a lot of glazing). I also replaced some of the RAF roundels on that decal sheet with spares as I thought the red too bright. OK, that's enough words – here's some pics. all the best Mark I've just realised that, looking at these images, my carefully sanded flat spots on the main wheels don't touch the ground. Oh well. I'm sure I'll get round to sorting that out at some point!
  11. Bought this Tornado at a charity event. Thought I will build it out of the box, no pressure to detail, no PE, no fuss. Since my order for the pilots and decal are on the way from UK, I might as well start the build. The details of this old kit contrasted so much to newer ones like the Eduard desert babe in my stash. Building this kit brought back memories of those long long time ago days when I was still much younger. Simple cockpit assembly.
  12. Ok, so my F-117 was issued (just) too late to qualify, as were my Spitfire Mk IX, Macchi G.55 Veltro and various tanks, but at the bottom of my stash I found this. Scalemates say it was first issued in 1986 but I did not stumble across it until the early 1990's and I suspect I was toying with the idea of converting it to an A-3B Skywarrior when I bought it, but then realised that would be far too much work, so it went back in the stash until the end of 2021 when the Vietnam GB arrived on the scene. I remembered seeing one of the EW versions in the film BAT*21 ( not a very good simulation I seem to recall) and also that I had seen a conversion set a few years previously, but when I checked they were no longer available. I did however find that Italeri had reissued it as the RB version in 1998 and managed to pick one up cheap on a certain well known auction site - I suppose one advantage of the type being little known, and I have posted a pic of the result in the Inspiration Gallery. The kit is a bit of a mixed bag - fairly simple to build with an adequately detailed cockpit, but "see-through" engine nacelles and there is a bit of a problem with the plastic on the fuselage halves that could be difficult to hide on an NMF finish, but more on that later. Pete
  13. My first attempt at a diorama and a great chance to try out techniques on an inexpensive 1/72 scale Italeri kit. I know it's not great but we all have to start somewhere!
  14. Digging through my stash, I have realised I may have up to 3 kits which are eligible for this GB, the first of which is this. A 1980's reboxing of an earlier Italairei moulding which I bought together with their D0 217 and Ju 188 in around 1990. The other two were build a year of two ago so now it is time for this final one. Entering service just after the end of the Battle of Britain, the H-6 was intended as a torpedo bomber though it was mainly used with normal bombs I believe - the kit provides both options. More as and when I start. Pete
  15. Joining you with this kit, with originated in 1979. Costing £18 at IPMS Gloucester show in 2022 Offering these options - which I'm not using. Parts. And leftover ski parts from an Airfix build. Enquiries have been made about a set of decals for Night Fright. If that happens before the paint stage, this project could change direction. And my new Airfix C-47 build, which originated the skis
  16. My first entry is Italeri’s 1/48 Hawk. Will be completed as an aircraft of the Fleet Requirements and Aircraft Direction Unit in the ‘Fly Navy’ 100 Years of Naval Aviation scheme. I have found some good info on FRADU Hawks on the following website. https://fradu.info/hawk/
  17. Hi, and welcome to my first Group Build. Thanks for visiting! I'm a recent returnee to the hobby, and recall building a lot of Italeri kits when I was younger. They had a great selection, and I have many fond memories of constructing mainly contemporary 80s-90s fighters. A particular favourite was the 1/72 Vought A-7, which was my first thought of a kit for this build. However the Starfighter caught my eye while online shopping. I've somehow never got around to building one, this issue had an Italian scheme, and I thought a recon variant with the Orpheus Pod was quite interesting. I understand it was originally an ESCI kit from 1981. It was also incredibly inexpensive, comparable with one of those small Airfix Vintage kits. A lot less than I spent on a light lunch in town today! The F-104G was colloquially known as the 'Spillone' or Hatpin in Italian service, and built under license by Fiat. Aeritalia built the later F-104S, also under license. The parts are quite simple, but with a nice delicacy to the detailing (ignoring the very simple AIM-9s). I'm planning to build it straight out of the box, keeping honest to the vintage of the kit and my childhood memories. The scheme I've chosen is A, Alternative 1: 28° Gruppo 'Streghe' (3° Stormo), Verona - Villafranca 1989. This gives a nice touch of colour with the high vis roundels, and is a nod to the kit's age. Looking forward to seeing everyone's builds progressing, thanks for reading. Cheers, Nick
  18. My entry is 1980 re-release of the Italeri Crusader III. In addition also just picked up the Italeri Commonwealth Tank Troops box #308.
  19. Hi all, Here's my just finished 1/72 Italeri A-26B. Italeri is not known for the most accurate and best kits around, but this one is on another level. The fit of some parts like the clear parts is terrible, the cockpit is pretty basic, the wheels are not like the real ones at all, the engines are way too deep into the nacelles, but at least you won't see the total lack of detail on them, the canopy is only correct for very early Invaders, even though all 4 decal options had the later style early canopy. Well, I should say 3 of them, because the one I was planning to do has the serial number of a Harvard, the wrong unit code (F8 instead of F6) and the wrong color for the rudder (green, instead of black). Looking for aftermarket decals, I found this Kit's World sheet that has my user name on it, so I had to do that one of course. These aren't without its faults either. The color of the bomb on the nose art should be a brownish colour, I think, not green, and the roundels weren't great either, but all in all it was an improvement. I used some MRP paints on it Thanks for looking. Pete
  20. This is a 2007 rebox by Italeri of ESCI’s 1975 kit. The Semovente M40-M41 was a self propelled gun version of the Italian Carro Armato M13/40 medium tank. It was a bit cramped but had an effective gun and was used by the Italians mainly in a divisional artillery and anti tank roles rather than the assault role of the German STUG vehicles. They were to reasonable effect through the Desert and Italian campaigns with some being used by the Germans post the Italian armistice. Two nice sand coloured sprues which are crisp and clear, details not all bad for a kit of its age. Instructions over a few pages, brief intro, plastic tracks and a nice transfer sheet. Options for the desert and Italian campaigns.
  21. I’ll join in with this. The Semovente was a self propelled anti tank gun based on the Fiat Ansaldo M13/40 medium tank chassis. It served in North Africa and during the Italian campaign. The model is an Italeri 2007 rebox of a 1975 ESCI kit. These old ESCI kits are rather nice and the quality well ahead of their time. It’s good that Italeri have rebox Ed many of them as there is a paucity of the tanks in the range from other kit makers. Anyway on to the kit. Two nice and crisp sand colour sprues. Nothing overly complex but clean and crisp. Not bad for nearly 50 year old moulds, though probably only around 30 or so when boxed. Four page instructions, some introductory information, a set of plastic tracks and a nice transfer sheet. With colour call outs for 4 versions, including one used by the Germans.
  22. I got this from Jadlam today, and their packaging explains why the box is slightly crushed. The back of the box shows the colour schemes There are two largeish grey sprues A small clear sprue, a little photoetch fret and a nice looking decal sheet The recommended overall colour is FS 36280 Flat Dark Gray, though I don't know of any model paint that matches this - I'll have to see if anything looks close to the sample in my old FS595A.
  23. Hello everybody, I'd like to enter my build of the immortal Bell helicopter, it will be finished as one of the many examples used by the Italian Air Force Helicopter School at Frosinone. The base kit is quite an hodgepodge because I had a started Italeri Sioux AH.1, where I robbed the engine, part of the tubular structure and both rotors to scratchbuild an AB47J. That is unfortunately a stalled project after the issue of the LF Model kit, but that's another story... Then I remembered I also had somewhere the horrendous Pavla short-run kit, so I thought I could try picking some of its useable parts and make a complete airframe. You can see here below the raw materials: in the last few days I assembled the cabin from the Italeri kit replacing some parts I had robbed for the AB47J and then I tackled the photoetched tailboom 😱 The more I look at it, the more it seems a bad approach to remedy the coarseness of the Italeri kit, but in this case I had no choice. It is hopelessly flat and nearly impossible to assemble straight and true without bending some brace here and there. I hope it will get better once painted. Thanks for looking!
  24. Hi folk's,my build for this GB will be a Greek AF Recce Phantom.Luke has three kits in his stash and offered one as I grabbed a Trumpeter AMX Trainer for a snip in Creative's sale at a mere £12.50 posted however it only has Brazillian markings and there is nothing out there for Italian twin seaters except what's in Kinetics kit if I can get some it may be a second build.Anyway back to the Phantom rather than take a new kit I decided to take the one he started which only has the fuselage joined and a bit of interior paintwork.Being new to this modelling lark I think he was a bit disappointed in the intake fit and the poor fuselage to wing fit on dry runs however I'm well aware of this issue and know how to fix it.These Greek machines were in the familiar SE Asia scheme and weathered heavily so that was the attraction. Post some photo's soon but I really must get the mass of weaponry done for my Warthog build for the Japanese GB not touched it for weeks.,oh and I'll make sure he's shown the fitting fixes as he's planning Iranian and Israeli builds of this kit for future GB's.
  25. Hello Everyone, this is my next offering for your perusal. Originally I wanted to build it in U.S Air Force, Vietnam Era Camouflage but was quite take with this colour scheme. Built out of the box with just the addition of a couple of crew members and painted with a mixture of Tamiya and Revell acrylics. It went together well with very little filler and virtually no problems. I build most of my models in flight and the biggest problem I normally encounter is making the undercarriage doors fit but these dropped in with no gaps at all. A very enjoyable build. Thanks for looking, as always all comments and criticisms are welcome.
