Ok so I have decided I am going to build another whirly thing for the group build and I am going to build the Revell 1/72 UH-1D that I was going to add to the stash, this will be being built as the hospital version with all the stretchers etc. I certainly do like my Hi-Vis schemes! I was going to use parts from an etch set I had in the stash hence its appearance in the photo but I have since decided to hold on to the etch for a "slick" build in the future. A close look at the Kitty Hawk's messages in a chinese forum concerning the future Mirage 2000 kit ( link ) display, in the signature from the KH representative, a Bell UH-1 Huey CAD. Hi all and this thread is picking up a build that stalled over on the Vietnam II GB. Christmas holidays (my workbench is our dining room table) and an impending house move to allow for renovations meant I never got around to finishing it. I got as far as assembling the interior and she's going to be finished in 'Slick' configuration - need to find some M-60's from the stash somewhere. See you all in 2016! Cheers, Dermot

Excuse me, is that an Uzi? Hi guys Finally getting my build up and running. With impending being between jobs starting next week I will have some free time for the first time in as long as I can remember. My build will be the Revell UH-1H Huey (it says on the box) that will be in the Air America scheme. The sprue says UH-1D. The difference between the two is a more powerful engine. The kit is circa 1994 and I recently purchased this off of everyone's favourite auction site. I remember building the kit in my younger days and for an extortionate fee of £3 I fancied a trip down memory lane. Mostly I wanted the miniguns as a huey with one strapped either side just looks mean. My disappointment started upon opening the box to find the kit has the XM16 system hosting two very badly molded and overscale M60C machine guns on each side. For the scale the rest of the kit isn't too bad. I will be using Mike Grants Air America decals and will need to source or make some registration decals. This is what I am aiming for. Hi All, Just a quick one. I recently purchased the Revell 1:24 Huey, and it's a MONSTER of a kit. Unfortunately the kit decals are so painfully dull! I've had a hunt around and come up dry for aftermarket options, do any of you know if there are any out there and if so - Where? Really want to make this look a little better than the stock stuff, so anything you can point out would be great. Cheers, James

Hey All Today I present to you a CH-118 Iroquois of 439 "Sabre-Tooth Tiger" Squadron. This particular scheme dates from 1994 when 439 Sqn were celebrating their 70th Anniversary. Enjoy... Firstly, the real aircraft... CH-118, No.118106 . . . . . . The Italeri Huey is actually a very nice kit; plenty of options and detail and a reasonable parts fit... that is until you get to the clear parts. The fit (or lack thereof) of the clear parts is just plain awful. Every window with the exception of the ones above the cockpit was too small for the opening it was supposed to go into. I'm talking at least 0.5mm all the way around. The side windows were replaced with clear acetate glued to the inside. The intent was to glue the kit windows to the acetate but after trying (and failing) on the small side windows, I elected to leave it as it was. If it were up to me, I would have the doors in the kit molded in clear. Like I said the rest of the kit is very well done, with lots of interior detail and different configurations of equipment and seating for whichever version you prefer. This Huey was painted with Pollyscale Reefer Yellow for no particular reason other than it was the closest bottle of yellow at the time. Vallejo Black mixed with a little flow improver was used to do the tiger stripes... that's right ladies and gentlemen, those stripes aren't decals they were painted by hand! The (anti-slip?) area on the top is Tamiya Medium Grey. The windows above the cockpit were tinted green with some Future mixed with green food colouring. The exhaust pipe was removed during assembly and replace with some aluminum tubing after painting was completed. Numbers, roundels and such came from Belchers Bits "Canadian Helicopters" decal sheet. The only aftermarket besides the decals was a set of Eduard Superfabric seatbelts. The inspiration for this build came from last month's issue of Scale Aviation Modeler Intl. which featured an incredible 1/35 Huey build (which I believe is here on Britmodeller somewhere). In the accompanying colour profiles was this striking scheme. It had to be done! I didn't bother to source decals, so I just dove in, took my time, and to be honest, I wasn't as hard as I expected. It was actually quite of relaxing. All in all, not bad for my first helicopter if I do say so myself. Regards

Hey Gang- This is my recently completed 1/72 Italeri UH-1B Huey Gunship, in the markings of the 120th AHC Razorbacks, circa Vietnam. Made a bunch of enhancements and additions to the kit. Huey gunships are very busy in the cargo/cockpit area, so the bulk of the work was done in those two spots (most of which can be seen in this Facebook photo album- https://www.facebook.com/Albymoore/media_set?set=a.10201484012640568.1073741838.1183606216&type=3# ). I also did some exterior work where needed. The Razorback decals were custom made by Joseph Osborn of Fireball Modelworks, while the rest of the markings were sourced from various US Army Huey decal sheets. Italeri kit decals from kit I know this aircraft didnt wear this scheme as it was sold overseas but if it did then hopefully this is what it would look like It is a tailsitter normally Normal proviso best seen from 5ft away Rodders

I've decided to embark on the next phase of my RAN Fleet Air Arm project - this time a Huey UH-1B from the Italeri 1/72 kit. One thing that has me stumped (apart from the general fit of the cabin floor which is another thing) is the orientation of the top and bottom halves of the central vertical supporting framework seen through the lower nose windows. Here is a photo of the real thing I took recently. The lower part of the central supporting frame has an angle compared to the upper part. I think the lower half angles out but the view through the perspex is quite deceiving and the upper part possibly angles in. Neither the Eduard etch I have, and the original Italeri kit parts/instructions make this clear. The Eduard part for the UH-1B (left) has the central frame flat (although with some nice detail). The Italeri part depicts an angle but the instructions have you install this towards the centre and not the edge as in the real thing. It's also a little unclear whether the central support lies flush with the edge of the perspex window, or whether their is a lip. My apologies if this is trivial but I find this is a very prominent feature of Huey's and I'd like to get it right. Thanks in advance, Andrew

Call me insane, but here is my 6th and final entry. (Unless I find another gem on eBay cheap ) I've just won it, so until Mr Postman pops it through the door and it's in my grubby little hands you'll have to make do with an eBay photo. I built one of these in the late 80s but the skids ended up a bit lopsided, I was using Revell Contacta Pro and unfortunatly didn't leave it long enough to set. Those were the days before I trusted myself to use superglue. (I now live near a hospital as well...) I can't wait to get started on this one, the AH-1G is a beautiful looking aircraft and with my move to 1/144 (mainly) it's not often I'm going to get a second chance at building a kit from my early modelling days. ***Update*** Now I've got the kit here's a photo of my lovely sealed HueyCobra -
Well, finally got this finished. Except now looking at the pictures, need to do a little work around the front windows. I believe as I am getting older my eyes are getting worse, what a shock!. Made this a tired old bird that had seen better days. The kit was almost no problem to put together. Two issues, one the undercarriage is way too weak to support this kit's weight. I am crafting a new one out of metal. The second issue is the nylon representations for the ammo versus the miniscule attachment points for the machine guns. I need to figure out a more permanent way to secure the guns since there is continuous pressure to distort them from the ammo. Still working on that. During the shoot one of the machine guns popped loose from the tension. Would recommend this kit to anyone of any level. Just wish they would reissue it as the phantom model. It is very large when finished. This is taken in front of my office door and it almost spans the width of the entryway. Comments welcome. Now back to the Mosquito and the obsolete group build.

First post here (yay!) , so why not start off with a bang? And by bang, I mean gigantic helicopter. I'm not especially far along, I really just started: (if the photos don't work, lemme know) The painted passenger seats, right after I glued 'em on Front seats, painted grey. It's kind of hard to see, since the tape is clear, but I've masked the seat cushion to paint olive drab later. Instrument panel, slightly shiny from being semi-wet. I've yet to put the decal on it, but my local crafts store didn't have any decal setting solution, so I'm gonna apply it with water and prayers. The nicely painted (if I do say so myself) pitch sticks, drying on a Testors cap. I'd like to say that the scratch-marks and weathering on the silver parts were intentional, but it was really just my ineptitude at painting. Anndd the control sticks. I left the handle unpainted, I like it in OD green...(who knows why) Err...this photo came out a little blurry..oops..... That's it for now, more progress soon

Hi Spent a very pleasant afternoon in the sun with a good friend, fine ale, stunning military vehicles and some wonderful flying (unfortunately "Sally B" cancelled due to "bad weather up-country", whatever that means!) I hope you enjoy the pictures - you might have guessed that the Huey was my favourite, after seeing it on static at so many shows.
