Good afternoon all! It's taken me since Christmas and has been a bit of a cursed build (see below) but here is my first ever He 111: This an aircraft of Kampfgeschwader 55 'Greif' and fought in the Battle of Britain and is actually part of the Airfix BoB 75th Anniversary pack. Built out of the box but with the eduard interior pack and masks for the canopy. I refrained from adding rivets on this one but tried out some new techniques which some I'll use again, some I won't. Pastel weathering for exhaust fumes was a new one for me as I usually airbrush these on. This worked well on the top of the wings, particularly where I laid down white, then grey then finally black pastels to create a heat damaged paint surface and then the usual soot from the engine. This didn't work so well underneath as the lichtblau showed every mistake and worse still, the matt coat started coming away where I tried repeatedly to get the effect I wanted. I ended up correcting with oils as the pastels simply wouldn't stick and I wasn't going to matt coat it again but this now looks overdone for me. Another new technique was stretched sprue for the antenna wire which i'm not completely sold on as it's a little thick for 1/72 and saggy; I may replace at some point but that's it for now. So why has this been a cursed build? The canopy out of the box was warped but good 'ol Airfix sent me a replacement very quickly. The eagle eyed of you will notice I've sprayed more of the canopy on the top two panels than I should have... this is to cover up fogging caused by Tamiya green top. Not that I'm blaming this but lesson learned, PVA glue from now on. Throughout building I had multiple incidents from needing milliput to fill gaps, a split fuselage which needed re-gluing and refilling, poor fitting fuselage windows which aren't the clearest meaning a lot of the interior extras can't be seen very well. I've also lost part of the rudder mechanism and the rudder itself is sitting a little low which I only noticed once I'd started painting. I didn't follow the instructions properly on the tail flaps which meant I had to perform quite a bit of surgery on them to get them looking ok. Here's some of the WIP and more pictures. I fancy building a Heinkel 111 I said to my eldest yesterday,"I,ve got the big scale one going nowhere" he replied, next day the behemoth is dwarfing my work table.Now big projects usually are my downfall(USS Fletcher and Bonne Homme Richard to name two) so hopefully it's third time lucky,he got the kit for £19:99 when Modelzone closed which was more than a bargain,reviews of the kit are generally favourable the main gripe being the beautiful rivet detail on the wing's are absent from the fuselage there is more than enough detail in the box and that's fine by me.I know my WIPS are usually five pictures and finished so I will try and make it a bit more detailed than usual. Here's the box and contents. And as a size guide here are the main component's with a 1/48 Spitfire for comparison. This as far as I remember the second 111 I,ve built the other was Matchbox's many moons ago.see you soon!

It's that time of year again and I always enjoy putting up a Yearbook of my latest models (though not so much Photobucket being terribly slow and crashing multiple times). Despite having a fairly busy year including moving to a new full time 9-5 office job since May, I have still found time to do plenty of models as usual That's what weekends are truly for! Picked up from a show for a fiver. Against all odds this unloved, unwanted and forgotten old kit found itself completed, unfortunately the landing gear was missing so it had to be built wheels up. Like with most of my Matchbox builds the panel lines have been enhanced but other than that it was built mostly as nature intended. As I wanted the Matchbox scheme that I remember from childhood the original Matchbox decals were chosen over the better ones included in the recent Airfix kit. As with their Me109 kit a much lighter shade of blue was used by Matchbox for the Romanian national markings. The kit was a joy to build, but perhaps one is enough for the Matchbox collection. If you have enjoyed looking at these builds, have fond memories of Matchbox kits or just fancy a challenge then why not join the vote for the 2017 Matchbox group build.

Currently I'm working on an old Eduard kit of the He-280, the first jet fighter in the world, but which did not go into production and ultimately lost out to the Me-262. I found the kit online from an Italian seller and I think it's long OOP from Eduard. This version has Jumo engines just like the Me-262, as the original prototypes used an engine by Heinkel which was problematic and never performed as expected. I was a bit disappointed that this version of the kit did not come with resin wheels and a seat, plus photoetch for the cockpit as I believe an earlier version did. I started with the wings and engines, and I found them a bit tricky as there are no location pins on the nacelles, I guess because this was an early limited run type kit by Eduard. I added some basic sidewall and wheel well ribbing with some thin evergreen strips which went some way towards busying up a very plain part of the model. For the cockpit, I added a set of the new steel belts from Eduard, these I think are meant for a FW190. I also added some airscale generic photoetch levers for the throttles and so on, but not being able to find a photo of the interior of the He-280 I used a bit of imagination here! Some photos of the model put together, I found the seam lines to be a pain on this one, still an area I don't like (getting rid of seam lines!). Not 100% happy, but I think if I kept filling and sanding I'd have no plastic left! And now it's primered (Mr Surfacer grey 1200 from a rattle can). I've now pre-shaded it and the first coat of colour is going on (it's RLM02 Grau all over from Mr Paint). Not so sure about the preshading, I've been black basing instead on recent models and I think it's easier, but I'll see how this one turns out!

Evening, while building my 1/72 B29, I started looking over my shelf of doom as a distraction. Doing that I found the Revell boxing of the Hasegawa He 111 H-6 and ICM He 70 F-2, both in 1/72. One half painted, one ready for painting, I started thinking how to paint them, actually I thought a of a What If to let them stand out of the crowd somehow. I thought of asking here, if anyone knows interesting, colorful, distinctive or somehow different paintjobs or camoflages. I for example thought of a Japanese He 70 or a post-war Isreali He 111 but maybe you know something better. Thank you In advance Levin

Hello folks, This is my very first post to Britmodeller. I've been a member for a while now and look at everyone's contributions everyday but have never posted anything myself. This is a trial run to make sure I get it right so bear with me please So here goes!! I've chosen the kit that I've just finished - the Revell He115 Seaplane - see below: I seem to have been drawn to seaplanes over recent months and have also completed an Arado 196 (maybe posts for another day). Back to the He115. The kit shows its age and I believe it's the matchbox kit that Revell re-boxed. The kit fought me in so many ways and tested both my modeling skills and my patience - particularly sorting out the huge expanse of less than perfect cockpit glazing!! However, I really enjoyed building this kit and I think there's something quite therapeutic about wrestling pieces into place every now and then to keep our modelling minds fresh. I'll apologise for the photos as they were taken on my phone in fairly poor light - I'm no professional photographer - something I'm going to need to work on. Hope you enjoy and any feedback and comments will be greatly received.

Hello Finally I had some time to continue the work on my Ost-Front scene. I've finished the models some time ago: Ju 87G-2 Stuka 'Kanonen Vogel' and Heinkel He 111 H-6. Both in 1:72 scale. Now it's the time to build the diorama for them. The plan is something like that: So, here is what I've done so far: Ju 87G-2 Stuka 'Kanonen Vogel' from Academy Heinkel He 111 H-6 from Revell Perspex box base with both of them arranged: Some SC250 bombs from Czech Masters (6) and one left from Messerschmitt Bf-109 kit: Some SC1000 bombs. Four again from Czech Masters and two from the Heinkel kit. They are a little bit bigger. Not sure which are in correct scale but I've decided to use all of them. The sledges to transport the bombs I've made from matches. Cut, glued, filed, airbrushed, drybrushed and finally weathered with washes. Here is how they look with the bombs: And finally Kettenkrad to tow the sledges and Kubelwagen for pilots (who are not ready yet). Both from Academy kit. The diorama will have some boxes, barrels etc. plus of course ground crew servicing the planes and the pilots resting and waiting for the mission. Thanks for watching.

Hello Chaps, I'm back to share with you my final build of 2015, that I completed the morning of New Years Eve. This was a gift from a fellow YouTube modeler, who sent it to me because he knew that I was enjoying building Luftwaffe aircraft during the last 8 months, but hadn't yet built a bomber, and that the Heinkel He 111 was a plane that I really wanted to get my hands on. This is a discontinued kit from 1994, but has been re-released under the Revell banner. For a 22 yr old kit, it has some reasonable details, including recessed panel lines on the exterior surfaces and three figures: a officer, pilot and bombardier/front gunner.. I did have a couple of fit issues though: one of the wing root to fuselage joints had a gap of around 1.0mm that I had to fill, and, the profile of the greenhouse canopy was wider than the profile of the fuselage body on both sides. I therefore had to carefully file the clear part down without damaging the window areas. Also, the original decal sheet was yellowed and the moment I put decals into water, they disintegrated. My friend who sent me the kit had suspected this might happen, so he included a more up to date set of decals, although they had markings for two H-6 version Heinkel's that carried two torpedoes and also didn't have the fully enclosed dorsal gun turret, but the open style with the windshield facing forward to protect the gunner from airflow. This newer decal sheet didn't include decals for the V1 rocket, of which there were 24 stencils intended to go onto the rocket on the original sheet. I therefore decided that this was going to be a non-existent, what if, fun build. I mixed some of the fuselage side markings from the decal sheet to spell 1H+AM, which was associated to a Junkers Ju 88 and which I thought appropriate at the time of building, as it was Christmas, and most people like a good Spiral Ham! With this being a large model at 1/48 scale, I thought that the two tone splinter camo was just too much green, and therefore broke the monotony of it up with a white tail band, which would have indicated that it operated in North Africa....again...accuracy isn't playing into this build...it's just for fun at this point in time. I have to say though, it was a good kit besides the outlined issues and I had a lot of fun building it! I've just completed my 1:72 Heinkel He 111 from Revell, a second part for the diorama (the first part was this Stuka). It was very nice build without the major problems. Hello everyone, Here is my Dragon Heinkel He-162. Kit was a nightmare to build, but I'm pretty pleased with the result. Another disaster with the nose weight though! This time silly me glued the nose weight in with a ton of cement, and 5 minutes later the nosecone was melted! Maybe I should just stick to tail sitters

Finished this evening, Revell's awesome Heinkel He-177 A-6/R-1 One of my favourite aircraft from WW2, i know it wasn't the resounding success that the Luftwaffe thought it would be but it looks epic and has always fascinated me since i was a child. The A-6 could be considered a prototype in that it was only developed as an armaments test aircraft for air to ground and anti-shipping missiles, while also allowing for different rear turret designs to be tested. I believe that im right in saying that only 6 test machines produced in this variant One of the most enjoyable builds i think I've ever had, its a fantastic kit with great details, everything fits, great decals and goes together without any real issues. Just noticed that i haven't put the wing light in... ah well, one last task then im done lol

Most people know Ernst Heinkel and the Heinkel company for their Heinkel He 111 Luftwaffe standard bomber or the ill fated He 177 Bomber. But Heinkels real passion was speed. He was known and feared for his furious car driving and his goal was to build the fastest plane. This lead to his attempt to built the fastet piston driven plane, the He 100 and to the search of new forms of propulsion. As a result of this search, he came in contact with Pabst von Ohain who was, like Frank Whittle in England, working on a concept of a revolutionary new propulsion, the jet engine. Heinkel realised the potential of this new propulsion and supported v. Ohain. He also supported the development of the rocket engine, but this is another story. To test the jet engine in flight, Heinkel ordered to engineer the Heinkel He 178, which became the worlds first jet plane. This is Condors rendition of the He 178. There is another one in 1/72 from 12squared but the 12squared kit is inferior to the Condor kit (which is not realy good). It is typical short run and needed a lot of sanding, dry fitting and putty. I also did vacuform a new canopy and scratched some cockpit details. The model was painted with Gunze Aqueous and Alclad colours.

Heinkel He51 B.1 1:48 Roden The He51 was a development of the earlier He49. The He49 was officially an advanced trainer but in reality it was a fighter for the then secret Luftwaffe. The He51 was a conventional single bay biplane with fabric covering a metal tube construction, armament was a pair of 8mm machine guns in front of the pilot, firing through the propeller. It was ordered into production in early 1933. In the summer of 1936 six aircraft were delivered to Spain to fight in their civil war. These initial operations were successful and more deliveries were made, eventually a full three 12 aircraft squadrons formed the Legion Condor, all manned by German "Volunteers". With the introduction of aircraft such as the Polikarpov I-15, and I-16 the Heinkels lost their edge in air-to-air warfare and were relegated to ground attack where they proved successful and would refine the close air support tactics which the Luftwaffe would use to great effect in WWII. Despite heavy losses 46 He51s would survive the Spanish Civil War and would be joined by another 15 new builds to serve in the Spanish Air Force. The last of these aircraft would not retire until 1952. The Kit The kit arrives on 5 sprues of light grey plastic and one small clear sprue. The parts are well moulded with no flash or other defects visible. The panel lines on the metal cowlings are engraved, and the fabric effects are restrained and very well done. Construction starts strangely with the centre line fuel tank; this is two halves with mounting brackets. Following this another set of sub-assemblies in the form of the horizontal tails, with their elevators and control horns are put together. Only following this does construction move to the cockpit area. The main cockpit floor has the control column and rudder pedals attached, and the seat has its mounting parts attached. At this stage the machine gun barrels are fitted to the engine cover, and the spindle for attaching the propeller is added to the engine front section. Following this the side framing for the cockpit interior has a couple of extra parts added to it. The instrument panel is then built up along with the underside radiator. Next the exhausts are added into each fuselage half. The wheels are built up and added into their spats at this time. The interior of the fuselage/cockpit is now assembled. The floor, seat, and instrument panel are added into the main framing. The flaps can then be added to both the upper and lower wings. The next step is to close the main fuselage around cockpit section. The radiator housing, engine front, and engine decking are added at the front. To the rear the tailplanes and rudder are also added. Following this both wings can be added. The lower wing fits to the fuselage with the upper wing being supported by struts towards each end, and smaller struts in front of the cockpit. Care will be needed to align these correctly. The last items to be added to complete the model are the fuel tank, wheels, and propeller. If the modeller wishes to rig their model they will have to use their own references as there is no rigging diagram supplied with the kit. Decals The decal sheet for the kit is fairly small as the aircraft did not carry much in the way of markings. Decals are provided for two aircraft; He51 B.1 - Bort 2-24 Commander of 4.J/88 Legion Condor - All over Grey. He51 B.1 - Bort 2-98 Lt Kurt Strumpell 3.J/88 Legion Condor - Disruptive Green over Grey. Conclusion This is a good looking kit of an important pre WWII aircraft, and one which played an important part in the Spanish Civil War. It would be good if Roden had provided a rigging diagram to help the modeller, however aside from this it is a great kit. Recommended. Review sample courtesy of UK Distributors for

Hello folks, I have finally finished my Heinkel. This is the Trimaster kit with Aires resin cockpit and some bits from the Eduard etched set. The kit included some etched and whitemetal parts, e.g. cockpit details, hinges for the engine nacelles etc. I know there wasn't a real need for the resin 'pit but I bought it as a second hand (unstarted) job lot (Kit, Eduard etch, Aires cockpit and montex masks) at Sword and Lance last year, so decided to use this as a test bed as this is my first time using resin, and etched components, and also the first time i've tried weathering, and I'm quite pleased with the reuslts. The markings are all masked and painted, with the exception of the serial number on the tail, the crest on the side of the cockpit, and the 'no push' markings. The decals were a bit on the thick side and the carrier film stands out a bit, but overall not too bad. Anyway here it is, comments welcome... Thanks for taking the time to look. Al

Hi, Some of you may have seen this at model shows on our club stand. I thought I'd post here as well. Not your typical aircraft build but as I'm not known for my aircraft, more for rusted vehicles, it was great to build an aircraft and put my own spin on it. I was looking to do a crashed plane, but after a search of the inter web, I came across a series of photos from the "Deutsches Museum" of a Heinkel HE 111 being restored, and so the idea for this build was formed... Hello Folks, As my A-10 is currently stalled whilst I work out how to resolve a few issues I thought I would start on another kit. Just to stop the dust from settling on my workbench of course! Its the Trimaster kit of the Heinkel He162A-2 in 1/48 with a resin pit by Aires, etch from Eduard and Montex masks. I bought this kit and the associated aftermarket as a 'job lot' at Sword and Lance in Darlington in 2014. And thought it would be a nice quick and easy build to keep me occupied. It was the box picture and the resin bits taped to the lid that caught my attention (the opportunity to add extra details to cockpit and engine!). The box was still sealed in it's cellophane. Anyway, here is the obligatory in box shot... 'Only three sprues included in the box? hmm that's not much for your money' thought I and then I decided to have a look inside the little blue 'packing' box on the right, and these fell out... Sorry about the poor photo I didn't realise it was part in shadow until too late. I'll include better shots later in the build. Etched detail parts for the cockpit and engine, and a set of PE hinges (to assemble!) for the cowlings. There's also white metal landing gear, ejector seat, and even a cast nose weight shaped to fit in the nose! The remainder are bits of brass rod, wire, tube etc, for the other details. I wonder why the original owner bought the resin pit and Eduard etch? Speaking of which, here's the aftermarket... And a better picture of the resin 'pit before cleanup. Well, these things don't build themselves, so better get started.... More to follow later Al (Edit to correct typo's)
