  1. Hello Britmodellers, This is 188907 RCAF from AETE in Cold Lake, built in 1996, some Verlinden Big Set added, hope you like it! Cheers, Tom
  2. Well, how about another “what if” history project? This started off as just a regular build of the Hasegawa Kyushu J7W1 Shinden. This aircraft had long fascinated me, with it’s unorthodox canard design and sort of “Star War”ish appearance. I wanted to build the prototype which actually was test flown in the waning days of the war. I've read that it made three 15 minute flights and grainy film from that time seems to confirm that. The build was progressing along nicely when disaster struck. I was using a desk lamp to speed up the paint drying. I left the plane unattended for a few hours and when I returned, the lamp had dropped down several inches and had melted the upper rear fuselage. Yeah. Ooops! After much gnashing of teeth, a “fix” came to me. I could try to adapt the aircraft to turbojet power which was a long-term plan for Kyushu anyway had time allowed for this development. I used body shop spot filler putty to build up the damaged area, deleted some features, added a few more and jumped whole hog into this conversion process. I used the canopy from some long lost P-47, cutting it in half and using the rear-most section for the windscreen. A drop tank from an unknown source was pressed into service too. The prototype had featured some rather long and spindly landing gear to provide ground clearance for the six-bladed prop on the pusher radial engine. I didn’t need that clearance now and so decided to shorten the three landing gear. That led to another problem. When gear were shortened, the wheels wouldn’t mate with the recesses in the wings and forward fuselage. So, I had to relocate the attachment positions for all three. I also shortened the rather tall vertical stabilizers/rudders and created new broader rudders. I envisioned that the J7W1 would’ve evolved into the J7W2 with jet power and then later into the J7W3 with the bubble canopy, shortened rudders and lowered stance. The planes would’ve been delivered to units in an unpainted form with Hinomarus intact and field expedient camouflage then applied. This model was built back in 2004 and upon close inspection, reveals a lot of flaws. I had a bit of trouble blending the new canopy into the fuselage and in general, the build shows my limits then as a modeler (and those haven’t changed as much as I would like now, lol 😉). But, it was my first conversion of any kind and my first “what if” project too. I imagine this aircraft based in Korea, circa spring of ’47. It’s wearing 5 kill markings, 3 American victims and two Soviet kills, making her pilot a “Japanese Jet Ace”. I hope you enjoy my little World War II fantasy exercise. Thanks for stopping in and taking a look! Gary
  3. Hello guys! 1:72 model from Hasegawa, built 41 years ago, with Microscale Decals. This is my very old build of 1978, first pictures ever to be shown. The clear coat got yellowish on some spots (early Revell clear varnish). I polished the canopy and blew the dust off... Cheers, Tom
  4. I've left this late and if I don't start I'm not going to finish on time - I'll be away for a couple of weekends in July so I only have 6 weekends to get this done. It's the Hasegawa 1/48 F-104J. I have a few aftermarket goodies for it but in the interests of time I might not use them all. I'll be using the Two Bobs Komatsu Starfighters sheet, going to go for the natural metal/red/white option - there's a photo of it here: http://www.916-starfighter.de/Large/Stars/wJ673.htm Here's the open box and aftermarket stuff: I've made a start - got a few subassemblies assembled and started painting. Don't have a photo to share yet - not really worth sharing at this stage - but hopefully will make quick progress. If I can get the fuselage closed up next weekend I reckon I can get it done by the end of the GB.
  5. Hasegawa's 1/72 scale F-4C/D kit, built SFB as F-4C 63-7618 of 57 FIS out of Keflavik, Iceland at the 1976 William Tell Gunnery Competition held at Tyndall AFB in Florida, USA
  6. Rejoining with this Hasegawa kit, that I've just received. Picked up by a colleague from Sailsbury show. I've been itching to get a kit to put this scheme onto. Anyway , here are the parts, still in their bags.
  7. Eduard's boxing of the Hasegawa Hawker Typhoon, with Resin 4 blade prop, and elevators. Painted with Tamiya acrylics throughout, weathered lightly with some oils and pastels. Lost one rocket, so it's being re-armed 🙂 Peter
  8. Hi, I'm going in with Hasegawa 1/72 F-104 Starfighter. Like I mentioned in the GB Chat, this is not a favorite aircraft for me. And other modeller friends of mine would just giving me weird looks for saying that... So probably this built will make me 'love' it more This was the start, around a week ago before I pack it and depart with me for my workplace. Paint all the cockpit area with Mr.Color H370 as per instructions sheet Didn't have the mood to post, or start the build until 2 days ago and able to paint and built the cockpit, scratch a simple throttle, paint it, followed with wash and drybrushed both using tamiya enamel. 2 fishing ballast glued with epoxy resin is enough right? So... To build the CAF version, Hasegawa instructed to cut off 2 of the 3 blade antenna on front of the nose landing gear well. But, seeing the fitting between the halves (and the CAF sure have a shiny Starfighter...which means smooth surface). I planned to cut all of the antenna for ease of sanding later and re-attach it near the end of the build. Any idea... Or pointers maybe? Cheers, Mario
  9. To have a buddy for the Romanian 109 Emil, my dad now starts a Hurricane too, using this Hasegawa kit. DSC_0010 by grimreaper110, auf Flickr
  10. Hi! Two aircrafts I never built is the F-102 Delta Dagger and F-106 Delta Dart. And the main reason is that they are rare. The only ones I knew about in 1/72 in the past are the Hasegawa kits. Of course both Trumpeter and Meng has showed up with new kits. But if they where made of Revell, Monogram or even Airfix I would probably built one or two as the Dagger and the Dart are very impressive aircrafts with an interesting history. Yesterday I finaly got one, a Delta Dart as a gift from an friend. And opening the box I got an second surprise. Gosh, it is really an BIG aircraft. I always had an idea that the F-102 and the F-106 was something like the Mirage III and F-6 Skylancer. But in the box was something bigger than an F-4 Phantom. I had to check twice that it wasn't an 1/48 scale kit! https://www.scalemates.com/kits/hasegawa-00373-f-106a-delta-dart-159th-fighter-interceptor-squadron--282168 As it is an 1/72 kit that comes in a box that usually has aircrafts like the F-11F Tiger there isn't much space left. It also comes with some nice decals for two aircrafts. One from the 159th FIS and one from the 318th FIS and with that the big problem comes up. Both are painted in ADC Grey... So what can one do to solve this? Are there any Tamiya or Humbrol paint out there that is close to what ADC Grey is? Maybe in an lighter shade but bluegrey, not green or browngrey. What I knew the Humbrol and Xtracolor paint isn't available. I also noticed that the weapon bay and landing gear bays are to be painted interior green. Is that correct for the Delta Dart? Cheers / André
  11. Last week I managed to finish this Hasegawa TA-4F Skyhawk in adversary markings. It is one of several adversary Skyhawks I have built, and I started it more than five years ago. It was a straight forward build but it just got sidetracked by lots of other models. I sprayed it freehand with Xtracolor enamels and used Fightertown decals for the markings. This is the company she will be joining: Jens
  12. This took nearly a year but mostly because it was stuck on the shelf of doom. It went together without issue, the kit is great I just found painting it a bit dull, especially the white. Also regretting putting in Eduard photoetch cockpit bits - totally invisible now I'm not calling it quite done but its done enough - I might go back add some more weathering My favourite box art of any kit in the stash though, love it! On top of a 1970's amplifier
  13. Most likely now the last Emil by my dad for now 😄 Eduard kit with decals from the Hasegawa kit. DSC_0004 by grimreaper110, auf Flickr DSC_0005 by grimreaper110, auf Flickr
  14. This is the Hasegawa kit, from the late 80's i think of an unusual NASA prototype. There wasn't many parts so most of the assembly was just a few hours, and hardly any filler at all.
  15. Hello guys, this is my currently the last completed model. It's an old Hasegawa model. Here's the picture, enjoy it.
  16. Finished towards the end of 2018, this was a kit that I'd had in my stash for close to 10 years. Had held off on building it telling myself "one day, when I get better at this hobby and won't make a mess of it". Finally got tired of waiting and just bit the bullet. As I recall, the build was relatively trouble-free and I really enjoyed seeing it come together. I built the Austrian Air Force scheme because it was the only one available from the box, I did not manage to source alternative decals in time. Since then I've managed to get my hands on the more recent boxing by Hasegawa, this time with Swedish markings - can't wait to build and paint that one! This is a completely OOB build, weathering was kept subtle as I read somewhere that the Austrians kept their jets pretty clean. As always, thanks for looking
  17. Dear fellow Britmodeller, here's my 1/72 Hasegawa Ju-188E in markings of KG 66, in 1945. Built with the addition of Eduard photo etch and Kora resin wheels. Photographs by Wolfgang Rabel. Thank you for your interest, best greetings from Vienna. Roman
  18. Hello all, Here is my recently completed 1/48 Hasegawa EA-18G 'Growler' in the markings of VAQ-132 'Scorpions' during operation 'Odyssey Dawn' over Libya in 2011. The build thread as part of 'The Specialists' Group Build is here Extras used included a Wolfpack Designs cockpit set, Steel Beach FOD covers, Eduard canopy mirrors, AGM-88s HARMs from a Tamiya F-16 and AIM-120 AMRAAM missiles from an Academy F-15. The model was painted using Mr Paint Lacquers and sealed with Mr Paint's varnish. Fantastic stuff. Weathering added using home made washes in random areas as per images of Super Hornets/Growlers when deployed. Thanks for looking. Dave
  19. I wanted to join but time is short, and I'm still manfully working my way through a pair of challenging TT builds in the trainers QGB, a Pavla Martinet and a fairly elderly Special Hobby Vengeance. We're also away for 10 days for a family wedding so my bench time is limited in the coming weeks. So if permissible this Fleet Air Arm sub hunter and killer from Hasegawa should be a relatively straightforward and trouble free build compared to my recent builds. And is all in one colour. Five nicely moulded grey sprues, not extensively detailed but not at all bad. And one small mall sprue with the radar on it. I've so got a masking set in the stash from Eduard. All the glazing on a single, quite large sprue. And a white metal arrestor hook. Good idea as shouldn't break when handled. Typical Hasegawa instructions, simple breakdown of parts, logical build sequence and no obvious pitfalls. Hopefully the fit will be exemplary. with options for one Suez aircraft from HMS Bulwark. The transfers have yellowed so they'll have to go on the front window sill for a few weeks. If they don't bleach out the actual markings not the Musketeer stripes are pretty straightforward and I should be able to sort something out Now to get some paint on.
  20. Hi! Concerning the Hasegawa F11F-1 Tiger what can be done with the area behind the seat in the cockpit? It's rather empty under the canopy... Cheers / André
  21. Sto facendo, eh? The Hasegawa F-104S. I have no experience with Hasegawa F-104 kits, and im not sure what to expect. But it's a Lockheed design and it sure is pretty.
  22. Hello modellers. My last model is done. Modest model and some hard work in the fittings parts. An old traditional Hasegawa 1/72 model. I used Eduard photo etch interior and masks. Tamiya acrilic mixes. I choose JE+HK 2/KG.6 version, found in Melsbroek, Belgium1944. I hope you enjoy it. Cheers!
  23. Hasegawa's Bf 109G-2 with decals from Eduard and Aeromaster.
  24. Blurred props for the “in-flight” look.
  25. The Hasegawa kit with SuperScale decals. Nickname: Rat Poison, 553rd Bomb Squadron, 386th Bomb Group, US Army Air Force, WWII, European Theater.
