I've been assembling model kits for a while now and I am starting to get comfortable and experienced enough to start modifying some of my models for better historical accuracy. My next build will be the Tamiya Bf 109 G-6, I've already planned to remove the umbrella holders only used on the trop versions (which I will not be recreating). Any other flaws/mistakes in the kit which you have noticed would be appreciated.

Hi all, To counter a few stalled builds that are awaiting paints or decals to arrive, i wanted to build something quick and fun. It doesn't really fit my collection but this kit seemed quick and fun to build. Revell can be a bit of hit and miss, you might find a state or the art kit or something from the 70's. in this case it's a fairly new re-box of a Zvezda kit, and the engineering is superb, mostly snap fit, yet pretty well detailed! There is a lovely 3 piece pilot and and option for folded gear that actually looks rather convincing (wheel well detail was rather good but one has to make tough choices) Overall a very nice stress free build. It's held airborne by a length of cloth hanger wire, yet it still needs a better base. After messing around with stretched sprue and elastic wire, one of my own hairs turned out to be the ideal antenna wire. It's not perfect but it paints the overall picture and most importantly, i had fun building and painting it! Anyway, here are some beauty shots in the sky's over my backyard

For the same group build were I participated with the V-tail 109 I also build the Classic Airframes Bf 109D, OOB except for the decals. Erik

My next project will be the AZ example of the Bf109F-4 in the colours of Joachim Marseille but I have a small question which hopefully someone can help with. The box art shows his machine in June 1942, Werk Number 8693, having a red rudder with the under nose cowling painted yellow. However my other source for this machine, from the Osprey Aviation series 'Bf109 Aces of North Africa', shows the same machine but without the yellow lower nose cowling, so which one is correct please? Hello Modelers, I just finished my German Luftwaffe Messerschmidt Bf 109E4/7 from Hasegawa 1/48. This was my first WW2 Axis fighter... and I have to say that I enjoy doing a quick build. For this build I used the RLM colors from Gunze: H68 RLM74 Dark Gray, H69 RLM75 Gray, and H417 RLM76 Light Blue (Luftwaffe aircraft) and I added a resin cockpit from S.B.S. Models. Enjoy the pics! My first 1/48 aircraft in about 7 years. Absolutely fantastic kit. Royal Eduard Dual Combo 1/48 with resin and PE details. Great fit and perfect amount of detail. This is a scheme seen many times before, but I need it to do mine! Bf 109F-4/Trop, W.Nr. 8673, flown by Hptm. Hans-Joachim Marseille F-4/Trop, CO of 3./ JG 27, in Quotaifiya, Egypt, in September 1942. He flew this aircraft about a month from August 24th, 1942 to September 25th. Flying this plane he was credited with 49 shots down of Allied forces aircrafts. This was the last Friedrich (F) he used. On September 30th, 1942 piloting a Messerschmitt Bf 109G-2/Trop he lead 3rd Staffel during the escort of Stuka Staffel. His cockpit filled up with smoke upon his return to the base and he was forced to catapult himself. His attempt was unsuccessful, during his catapult he hit the rudder of his aircraft, consequently he lost consciousness, his parachute then failed to open and the fall to the ground became fatal for him. After Marseille’s death, W. Nr. 8673, served at 1./ SG 2 where it got lost after being hit by flak south of El Alamein on October 22th, 1942. This aircraft is painted RLM 79 on the upper sides and all over the sides of the fuselage, this was an irregularity. The undersides were camouflaged by RLM 78. The camouflage was complemented by the marking of the aircraft flying in the Southern Front – white wingtips, white propeller spinner and white band on the tail of the aircraft. The engine cover had I. Gruppe JG 27 emblem on both sides. Because the camo was overall quite simple I've spent sometimes trying to give some variation to the base RLM 79. I've used two shades from AK real colours (RC282 1941 and RC283 1942), I then mixed them and used also some lighter and darker shades. Theres is pre and post shading, filters, panel lines washes a bit of modulation and then I finalised everything with some minor weathering and chipping. The figure is clearly not Marseille (nor the jacket seemed right for the desert!) but unfortunately it was the only one I had at the moment (will replace if I found one correct one of him in 1/48th scale) I hope you guys like it! Great little Tamiya kit with excellent fit but without much surface detail, so I've added the rivets. Cheers, Jorge

The model represents an airplane operated by one of my favorite Condor Legion fighters, Gothard Handrick in 1938. The model is well known to most, without any serious problems. Here's the picture.

My recent and other current builds all seem to have been (or still are!) a bit finicky, and I'm hankering after something nice and straightforward. Hence I'm going to start my Tamiya Bf 109 E-3; I've got the Xtradecal Luftwaffe Battle of Britain sheet on its way, and I'll be building one of the yellow-nosed schemes from that sheet.

Hello guys, continuing with my building spree, I'll start a Bf 109G-2 from Academy. This kit is actually the Hobbycraft one, and comes with Cartograf decals.

With never ending discussions on the best 109's available, what becomes of the old ones in the stash that don't quite make the cut anymore with today's requirements? Simply a bit of fun and, well, maybe just a little bit of upgrading.. So, I wanted to see what I could make from Academy's 109G. Fin and rudder came as spares from an AZ Models kit, and the spinner came from the ancient Airfix plane, as did the yellow 4. Luckily, yellowing wasn't an issue here. Cheers, Luka

This is my first year of retirement and have very much enjoyed being able to put time into my hobby. I was able to complete a model every month for the first half of the year and have been working on a single, more involved project since then. I have a room dedicated to modelling and this plus the extra time has seen my turnover skyrocket. If I keep up this pace, I should be able to clear the stash in around 40 years assuming I buy no more kits (fat chance of that)! Some of you other retirees may be aware of U3A, but if not do find out about your local one and see if it has something of interest to you. U3A are a voluntary organisation that run activity groups. I started one on plastic scale modelling and local modellers get together fortnightly during daylight hours to build models and coach each other on techniques. I have profited by being shown how to weather military vehicles and the vehicles this year are my first ones. It is all good fun. Here is my output for this year.... Airfix Bedford MWD 1/48.... I've always wanted to make this model, and now it's my turn. Lightweight work model, it fits perfectly. The aircraft I worked on belonged to a squadron that defended Belgrade and Serbia from the attack by German forces on April 6, 1941. Here are the pictures, enjoy.

This set convert Revell Bf109G-6 into Bf109G-6/AS with standard oil cooler. The set is cast from polyurethane resin. For the photo is painted Tamiya AS-12.

Hello everyone... Ive been wanting to do this for a number of years. I have a few favorite pilots from WW2 and other era's as I'm sure we all do. My favorite Luftwaffe pilot was Josef "Pip's" Priller, not because he was German or serving the Nazi's. However he was a good pilot that seemed to care more about his men, than politics and the General's in Luftwaffe high-command. Much the same reason i admire Gregory Boyington. Recently i was helping a couple of members including @Valkyrie, who were building Prillers D-Day Focke-Wulf. I was inspired to start a thread and ask questions about Priller's Bf-109F's and his Fw Dora. This in turn inspired me to start a long term project. I will be attempting to build every major variant of aircraft that Priller flew from 1939 until 1945. This will include three Bf-109's an E1, E3, E7, two Bf-109F's an F2 & F4, and at least five versions of the Fw-190 starting with an A2 and ending with a D9. I started the build a couple of weeks ago with an 1/72 Airfix Bf-109E4 that i am converting to an E7. The project will cover both 1/72 & 1/48 scales as i have decals in both scales. These builds will not be in order but as i acquire the kits. My second build will be a Tamiya Fw-190A3. A quick look at Josef Priller's biography before moving onto the build. This is taken from his Wiki page. "Josef "Pips" Priller (German: [ˈpʁɪlɐ]; 27 July 1915 – 20 May 1961) was a German military aviator and wing commander in the Luftwaffe during World War II. As a fighter ace, all of his victories were claimed over the Western Front. "Aerial victory claims" "Priller flew 307 combat missions to claim 101 victories. All his victories were recorded over the Western Front, and consisted of 11 USAAF heavy bombers, 68 Spitfires (the highest Luftwaffe ace's tally for this type), 11 Hurricanes, five medium bombers and five USAAF fighters. Matthews and Foreman, authors of Luftwaffe Aces — Biographies and Victory Claims, researched the German Federal Archives and found records for 100 aerial victory claims, plus three further unconfirmed claims. All of his victories were claimed on the Western Front and includes ten four-engined bombers." So in conclusion you can watch me trip and fall and look like a fool. Or if I'm lucky you can watch me build Ten aircraft over the next year or so, and enjoy the builds ? Now lets bring you up to speed on the 109E7. This ⬇️ Is before painting started last Friday, next to my Mexican Air force P-47D. I have modified the propeller to give it the pointed cap and added the drop tank and its mount. Over the weekend i sprayed the RLM65 Sunday i sprayed the RLM02. And today i sprayed the RLM71. Again this could be the ultimate trip and fall, or a decent success. Hello fellow modellers I bought this from a model shop in Melbourne. I thought it looked great and it reminded me of the movie "Dunkirk", which I am not sure if I liked the movie or not!!!!! I do like the white and black undersides of British planes at the time. Although I don't know why they used this scheme. Box art: I thought I would start the Spitfire as I have never built a Spitfire, it's about time I did. Spitfire parts: Have a look at the the free flash. I also got hold of this which I had the great idea of using instead of the Hasegawa parts. What is the difference between a Spitfire Mki and a MKIa? Thanks for stopping by for a look. Stephen

Ok so second post from me in here Tamiya 1/48 Bf109 E4, and again not everyone will like my weathering but I do and that's the main thing Enjoy

This is the 21st-Century Toys 1/32 Bf109G-14, 'tweaked' to represent the similar late-model Bf109G-6 which was the last wartime mount of Finnish ace (and Mannerheim Cross recipient) Nils 'Nipa' Katajainen. Katajainen had joined the air force reserve in 1939 and fought in the Winter War, was discharged in 1941, then returned to service only a few months later during mobilization for the Continuation War. He amassed 17.5 victories flying Brewster Buffaloes before converting to the Bf109 in May 1944, and was to add another 18 kills to his tally flying the Mersu. Having lost his regular mount to combat damage during a sortie 2 days earlier, 'Nipa' was flying MT-476 'Yellow 7' in July, 1944, escorting bombers in an attack on Soviet shipping. After being engaged by defending Yak-9 fighters, he downed one Yak before being hit by defensive fire from the ships, which badly damaged his Bf109. He barely managed to nurse the a/c back to his base at Lappeenranta, where he was forced to try to belly-land at high speed...but instead bounced and cartwheeled, ripping off first the wings, and then the shedding the engine. Miraculously, Katajainen was pulled from the wreckage unconscious but alive. After hospitalization and a slow recovery from his injuries, Katajainen was promoted before being discharged from the air force in November 1944; in December of that same year, he was appointed a Knight of the Mannerheim Cross, Finland's highest military decoration, for exceptional bravery. He was credited with a total of 35.5 aerial victories over 196 combat missions flown. Following the war, 'Nipa' went on to work in the civil service in Helsinki, before passing away in 1997. 21st-Century's kits have been well-reviewed elsewhere; they are simplified but reasonably well-engineered kits which benefit greatly from a little TLC. In this case, that involved an Eduard etch detail set for the cockpit, Radu Brinzan's neat harnesses for the pilot's seat, and some scratch-built bits like the Revi gunsight and items such as the aileron mass-balances which the kit omitted. Paints are Tamiya acrylics; decals came mostly from Eagle Strike's 'Augsburg's Flyers Part III' sheet (#32037), with substitute aircraft numbers made up on my inkjet printer to represent Katajainen's last a/c. I just received my copy of ‘German Eagles in Spanish Skies’ by David Johnston. Wonderful coverage of the early prototype Bf109’s up to the 109E ‘s in Spain. I’ve been collecting books on the SCW aircraft for 40+ years and have to say 90% of those shown in this book are new to me. Lots of information on the transformation from the early silver-gray color to the European colors and even one 109B with a solid light fuselage with splinter camouflaged wings. Pilot interviews, lots of technical drawings as well. Charlie
