  1. Dear fellow Britmodellers, this is my 1/72 Italeri Macchi 205 from 1a Squadrilla, 1. Gruppo Caccia based at Campoformido in February 1944. Decal markings from the box. I painted the smoke-ring camo with Gunze/Mr,.Hobby acrylics using LF Vinyl masks (M7213). These masks fit well on plain surfaces, but not on curvatures (such as the wing/fuselage joint). Some touch-ups were neccessary. I added MPM seatbelts and True Details resin wheels. All photographs by Wolfgang Rabel of IGM Cars & Bikes. Thank you very much for your interest in this topic. The model will be on display for "Bella Italia", a special exhibition on Italian technical designs at GoModelling Vienna in 2019. Kind regards, Roman
  2. Dear fellow Britmodellers, this is my 1/72 Sword Fiat G.55 of 2. Gruppo, 1. Squadriglia, flown by Ten. Drago at Cascina Vaga airfield, in May 1944. Built for the "Italian design special display" at the upcoming IPMS GoModelling show (March 9-10, 2019). I added photo-etch seatbelts from MPM and resin upgrades from AP Modely. Painted with Gunze/Mr.Hobby acrylics, representing the so-called "experimental splinter scheme". All photographs by Wolfgang Rabel. The round squadron batch on the nose has wrong color, it is too light. It should actually be dark green. Thank you very much for your interest in this topic. Best greetings from Vienna!
  3. Dear fellow Britmodellers, this is AZ Model's Messerschmitt Bf-109 G6, built from the 'Joy Pack' boxing, with Brengun photo etch and pitot from Master Model added. Decals are a mix of USK (wing markings), Hasegawa (fuselage code number), AZ Model (Italian flags) and Sky Models (small '8'). The aircraft represented served with 3. Squadrilla, 2. Gruppo Caccia, based at Villafranca airfield in late 1944. This build would have not been possible without the valuable help of fellow Britmodeller Luis Alfonso, who not only tracked down the USK decal sheet, but also a vital reference ("Italian Air Forces 1943-1945" by R.Caruana). Thank you Luis... The model was painted with Gunze/Mr.Hobby acrylics, weathering with artists oils. All photographs by Wolfgang Rabel. I realized too late that USK got the upper wing markings wrong:. the outer arm of the fasces on the starboard side should face forward. Thanks for your interest, greetings from Vienna!
  4. Aeronautica Nazionale Repubblicana (1943-45) The Aviation of the Italian Social Republic ISBN : 9788365437709 Kagero via Casemate UK While there has been much written about the Luftwaffe in WWII, not much is out there concerning their other Allies, even the Italians. This book concentrates on the Aeronautica Nazionale Repubblicana (ANR) which was the Air Force still under the control of Mussolini after the 1943 Armistice. As at the same time there was the Italian Co-belligerent Air Force, or Aviazione Cobelligerante Italiana who flew for the Allies. Its worth pointing out that the ANR amd ACI never met each other in combat. The early part of the book gives a look at the origins of the ANR, the ANR Fighter Groups and their aircraft. As well as using Italian aircraft the ANR were supplied with Bf 109G-6s from the Luftwaffe. The book then looks at Torpedo bomber, and conventional bomber units of the ANR, as well as the transport arm, and other units. Lesser know subjects such as their rank structure and unit markings are also included towards the end of the book. Conclusion If you're interested in the lesser known Air Forces, or the WWII Axis, this is an interesting book that should give you some hours of entertainment, and remain on hand as a reference for the modeller or historian. This is now the third of the "Library of Armed Conflicts" books I have reviewed and it is turning out to be a good series. Highly Recommended. Review sample courtesy of
  5. Dear fellow Britmodellers, this is Sword's new 1/72 Fiat G.55, a kit presented at ModelBrno Show in June. I bought two boxes (each box containing two model kits) plus an aftermarket bag, containing resin seat, air intake, wheels and a vacu canopy. There's seven rather colorful marking options included. The model fits reasonably, but has shallow and washed-out details and soft panel lines in some areas. I found the assembly of the multi-part landing gear most challenging. I found an original photograph of this machine in "Aviazione Nazionale Repubblicana Italian Air Forces 1943 - 1945" by Richard Caruana (Modelaid). It confirms the White fuselage band, but the nose is not visible. Therfore, I went with Sword's instructions and painted the cowl yellow, and the spinner black & white. Main colors are RLM74/75/76 from Gunze/Mr.Hobby acrylics range. Photographs by Wolfgang Rabel. Thanks for your interest! Best wishes from Vienna Roman
  6. Hello and thanks for your interest, here's my 1/72 Italeri Macchi C205, built from the box. I only added MPM Seatbelts. Thje nose spiral is not included in the kit's decals, so I used one from an (Fw-190) aftermarket sheet. The kit has relatively few parts, is well detailled, and builds into a nice replica without any major problems. I found the ANR markings with the Italian Flag especially attractive; my model served with the 1° Gruppo Caccia (Fighter Squadron) in 1944. It was painted in German late-war colors with Gunze/Mr.Hobby acrylics (RLM74/75/76). Photographs by Wolfgang Rabel, IGM Cars & Bikes. Greetings from Vienna! Roman
  7. Dear fellow Britmodellers, following the Photobucket disaster that made all my images posted to Britmodeller disappear, I've changed to a new hosting site named "Village Photos". The model I'm showing you today is AZ Models' Bf-109 G14-AS in markings of Italian ANR, Milan/Malpensa airfield, 1945. Original photo here: It was built with the addition of Master metal gun barrels and Brengun photo etch, decals from the box. I was a bit unhappy with AZ Model's decal for the "Blue 1" - it does have an off-center white shadow (only visible when you've slid the decal off the backing paper....). The original photograph doesn't confirm this. Painted with Gunze/Sangyo acrylics. Photographs by Mr. Wolfgang Rabel of IGM Cars & Bikes, thank you very much. Thanks fpr your interest, with best wishes from Vienna. Roman Schilhart
  8. RS Model's 1/72 Regginae 2005 "Saggitarrio" in ANR Markings, 1944. Built with the addition of Brengun photo etch set. An attractive little short run kit. Thanks for your interest! Photographs: Wolfgang Rabel, IGM Cars & Bikes
