  1. I’m going to join in with a trio of British V-fighters that graced the decks of post war British Carriers. First up will be this CyberHobby Sea Vixen. I know there are some shape challenges, and ejector seats that only a child could fit in, so there’s a little bit of aftermarket. A new nose, which I’ve seen in a recent build here on BM is a bit better but not perfect, new ejector seats, I’ll probably use one as the observer’s position can’t really be seen. Also masks and some missiles.
  2. this model has been on my to-do list for two years now, I finally got round to making it. It only took a week! It's a decent model, didn't have many problems with it. I'm pretty happy with the result, a good way to start 2023... Next up (probably): RA-5C Vigilante, should look good next to the crusader.
  3. Someone I follow on Twitter started a 'just for fun 109' group build. I'm a sucker for this kind of thing, so retrieved the Airfix starter kit that's been sitting on my son's shelf for a couple of years and decided to take part. As seems to be standard with the 'simpler' kits I really struggled with several aspects. Mainly the painting this time. In advance of this group build I bought the AK 3rd Gen Early Luftwaffe paint set, thinking it would be ideal. It wasn't - I couldn't spray the stuff at all - either clogged up in the airbrush or was too thin. I was thinning with water rather than AK thinners, to be fair. Tried Mr Hobby thinner as well but it just turned to gloop. I eventually ended up with Tamiya for the blue and Humbrol enamels for the upper camo colours. First time spraying humbrol enamel, it went on OK but I was left with ridges when I took the tape off which was disappointing. I then got a misting effect when I put down a satin coat before weathering which I never quite got rid of 😞 At some point in the build I also convinced myself I needed swastikas for the tail. A very kind person on twitter sent me some, but the combination of the Christmas post and the strikes meant they got delayed (arrived yesterday!) so I decided to do my own instead. They look OK from a distance, but don't have the white outline that you normally see. This was my first time using Eduard canopy masks - what a game changer! No way I could have got such a good result using just tape and a knife. So, here we have my 4th completed build of the year. Happy New Year to all on BM, and thanks for the hints, tips and encouragement over the last year - here's to a fab 2023 🍻
  4. Hello! Time for another lightning. As always I started with the interior. Seat always needs an upgrade. Pretty happy with this one. Going to be XS903 Any reference images would be greatly appreciated.
  5. Kit - Hasegawa K25 Paint - All Lacquers Decals - Kit Extras - Loadout from spares. McDD F-15C Eagle 36th TFW Bitburg AB, Germany 1986 I know I cannot prove it, but this is the first-ever 1:72 F-15 kit I have built, and I've been nailing bits of plastic together since 1970 ! - Bought this for the massive sum of 10.00 GBP from Phils' Model Shop in Southport back in 1990, and it's sat in my stash ever since. Picked it up around three weeks ago and it's been an absolute joy ever since. We really did have it good back-in-the-day with Hasegawa issuing top-quality kits like this almost monthly. So what to say about the build ? - Apart from the thirty actuating rods for the exhaust petals which were/are a bl**dy nightmare, it's an easy, easy build. Virtually no putty or filler required anywhere, even the potentially disastrous wing/fuselage joint was a breeze. Cockpit area is beautifully detailed and mine is fully painted, however I snapped both the actuating struts when I was manipulating the (huge) canopy into place so reluctantly had to glue the 'glass' into place, shame really but that's down to my sausage fingers and general clumsiness, 'owt to do with the kit. The decals behaved impeccably even after all this time, I was fully prepared for them to shatter into a million atom-sized pieces when they hit the water and they simply didn't !. Paint is Mr Color lacquers and TBH appear a little too blue on the build, so I'll need to have that in mind if I use them on any other Low-Vis build in the future. So as ever thanks for taking the time to look and /or comment... next I'll finish my Tamiya Honda, then maybe a 'What If' project. All the best from Middle Earth. Ian.
  6. In for a penny, in for a pound. I found this Xtrakit boxing of the Matchbox NF11/12/14 in the stash and thought I’ve got 3 on the go so why not a fourth. The TT22 was based on the NF11 so this is a reasonable starting point. The airframe is the same but the target towing appendages will need added. I’ll see if there’s any aftermarket available but if not it’s into the spares box to see what can be rustled up. I certainly have enough drop tanks to be able to sort something out. Anyway here’s the kit. Three grey plastic sprues with a number of optional parts for the various Marks. Although a more modern boxing the instructions scream Matchbox. Nice transfers which I’ll use the stencils and some of the roundels. And a commendably clear set of canopies, albeit a tad on the thick side. There’s a fair number of images on the web which I’ll use as a reference but I think they’re copyright so I’ll just give the links. https://www.facebook.com/aviationmt/photos/a.735829616779034/1685419015153418/?type=3 https://www.flickr.com/photos/158949556@N05/31814475477 https://abpic.co.uk/pictures/model/Gloster Meteor TT20 There’s a fair amount of work with the finish as well as the fabrication of new bits. Black and yellow striped undersides, High Speed Silver upperworks with yellow bands and serials, etc out of the stash. So it’s on we go.
  7. I’m hopeful I can join in with this. It is however considerably more than 25% started though. Really just needing finished off. These are the parts still to go on, but the canopy isn’t in the box, though I think I know where it might be. IIf my reading of the rules is right I can complete it with a WIP in the GB but it shouldn’t go in the gallery but into the inspiration gallery instead. If I’m wrong let me know and I’ll stop. Though if permitted it will give me the impetus to finish it. If I can find the canopy of course.
  8. Here's my entry, ticking the prototype, research & record breakers boxes Wasn't expecting to find resin in the box, so that's a bonus. Would have started sooner, but covid's really done a number on me. No Telford this year for me
  9. I’ll be joining in with this classic armoured car. I’ve already built one earlier this year so know the pitfalls.
  10. I love Arma Hobby kits. They've been doing great kits of interesting subjects for years now, and each new release is better than the previous. I can see a day when they're going to be as synonymous with modeling and quality as Tamiya. The PZL P.11C is one of their earlier releases, and doesn't have the finesse of their latest, but is still a great little kit, and very easy to build. I finished this model in a week. This doesn't happen often, but this kit is just such a joy to build, and the painting is very easy too. I built my machine from no. 141 squadron flown on September 2nd, 1939 by Captain Florian Laskowski. Captain Laskowski was leading a strafing mission against Nazi motorized columns north of the city of Toruń (where Copernicus once lived) when his plane was hit by flak, and he was badly wounded. Laskowski crash landed in a field. But the Nazi marauders reached him first and blocked civilians who attempted to pull him from the wreckage to provide first aid. Captain Laskowski bled to death. Thanks Arma for kitting these markings, so we can remember what happened. Here is the P.11 with it's real life stablemate, the P.7 (also an Arma Hobby kit, I built about 5 or 6 years ago) And my collection of Arma Hobby kits built to date (I have several more in the works. I love what these guys are doing!).

  12. Hi Guys ! My pleasure to present to you my new build. When you're a Fan, as I am, of Italian planes, you can't avoid the Fiat G-50 series. Everything as been written on this plane, first monoplane " modern" aircraft of the R.A, good handling abilities , poor power plant, poor armement .. so I won't go further on this side. Usually, Italian aircrafts of this period where pretty elegant and good looking planes. This not the case , for me, with the Fiat G-50 compared with its predecessor the Fiat CR-42 and more to his successor the Fiat G-55 it looks like a Ugly Duckling in its family 😆. even so, I finally like his special shape. And more of all , It took me back last century when in the late 60's I bought one of these lovely plastic bags kits with this so appealing illustration...of the Fiat G-50.. I choose to represent an aircraft used in north Africa , I wanted to have both , yellow nose with proéminents " bubbles" on it, and white backed insignias on wings. so I did not had lot of choice Italian Aircrafts went off the factories in a gloss finish (as represented so many times by Zigomar for his builds 😉) Thus, climate conditions, operational use, and maintenance activities, took their toll on these machines. I tried to represent these points on my G-50. Getting dull effect due to sand abrasion , and as seen on pictures , marked shoot stains ( anyone can imagine that crew teams had other use of water than to clean these stains..). S.B.S Models Fiat G-50 is, in my opinion, the best available 1:72 option for this plane. It's resin kit, with goods details and some fittings issues , specially for windscreen fitting .Anyway it was a pleasant build indeed. painted with MRP paints. Now on to the pics. hope you like it ! https://www.casimages.com/i/22101401112925890618025713.jpg.html] https://www.casimages.com/i/22101401113325890618025718.jpg.html] https://www.casimages.com/i/22101401113325890618025719.jpg.html] https://www.casimages.com/i/22101401113125890618025716.jpg.html] https://www.casimages.com/i/22101401113125890618025715.jpg.html] https://www.casimages.com/i/22101401112825890618025712.jpg.html]https://nsm09.ca https://www.casimages.com/i/22101401113625890618025725.jpg.html] https://www.casimages.com/i/22101401113625890618025724.jpg.html] https://www.casimages.com/i/22101401113625890618025723.jpg.html] https://www.casimages.com/i/22101401113425890618025721.jpg.html] https://www.casimages.com/i/22101401112825890618025712.jpg.html] Saluti !!
  13. A second build hopefully, another Alleycat conversion for the late mark of the Meteor converted to an unmanned target. However, I can’t find the MPM/Xtrakit F8 that I bought at the same time for it. I think it’s somewhere in this stash, I’ll have do a bit of mining. And probably tidy up as well. There’s a few days to go so I should be lucky. Maybe I might just buy the new Airfix one instead!
  14. This will be my first contribution to the GB. I’ve had the Alleycat conversion for a while and bought an MPM kit to go with it. I can’t find the MPM kit in the stash, though I did find a Mark3, but I did come across this Revell Mk4 which is a rebox of the MPM kit.
  15. Century series fighters, gotta love them. Here is F-101B Voodoo - the two seater interceptor variant. Kit is the Revell 1991 tooled 1:72 kit which is slightly difficult to come by these days. I liked the kit no real issues with the construction and the details are mostly pretty decent. Might lack some of the finesse of brand new kits but does not look bad for it's age. Decals were beyond saving so I used Microscale decals instead. The sheet did not have national insignia so they were sourced from another sheet, Added some details with Reskit wheels, Pavla cockpit and Master pitot tube. Painted with Vallejo Model Air acrylics and weathered with Flory models wash and oil paints. Built for Century Series GB but missed the deadline. Build thread can be found here : Thanks for looking, feel free to comment!
  16. Hi all, My mad dash to finish up shelf-queens continues. The next one off the shelf of doom (tm) is Academy's fantastic F-84. I only changed out Academy's dodgy decals with a random Superscale sheet I had laying around. I forget the squadron, but I believe it's from a unit stationed in West Germany in the early 1950s. The kit has a well-earned reputation for being excellent, and construction was problem free. The project stalled on my desk mainly because of my fickle ways, and because I forgot to add nose-weight. I had it assembled, painted, and even partially decaled, but set it aside when I realized it would be a tail-sitter. Then earlier this year I discovered a product called liquid gravity. I was able to get enough of the tiny pellets in through the open nose to make the kit almost balanced. More weight was then added into the drop tanks, and problem solved! The Superscale sheet was sized for the Tamiya kit and so didn't fit exactly. Gaps along edges needed to be touched up with paint, and some creative centering and stretching of decals was required on areas where its less obvious. The drop tank checkers were particularly tricky, and I messed up the alternating pattern at the top where the two halves meet. I can live with it, I Imagine Airman Pyle soldered two wrong tank halves together or whatever :) If its screw-upable in 1:72 it could have been screw-upable in 1:1. Looking at the finished kit, I wonder why I let it sit unfinished on the shelf for five years. It ain't perfect l, but I'm happy with it.
  17. I finished this a few weeks back but only got round to photographing the finished article today. A Hawker Hurricane MkI of 760 Naval Air Squadron, part of the Naval Air Fighter School at RNAS Yeovilton in the Summer of 1942. It’s Arma Hobby’s ubiquitous Hurricane in the ‘Navy Colours’ boxing. It’s not a Sea Hurricane but a MkI Hurricane presumably cascaded to the FAA for training. Finished in mainly Temperate Sea Scheme of Dark Slate Grey/Extra Dark Sea Grey over Sky, but with the cowling in the Temperate Land Scheme of Dark Green and Dark Earth. Brush painted with Xtracrylix paints and a Matt finish from Liquitex varnish. Also has an interesting Popeye marking. Built OOB, beautifully moulded kit and lovely engraving. Goes together well with little filler needed. One does need to be careful cleaning everything up as tolerances are fine. WIP here
  18. dear fellow modellers, I would like to show you this very small helicopter. It is one of the first designs by Kamov and made its first flight in 1949. The engine only had 55 hp. The kit is by AMG and consists mostly of photo etched parts, which makes building it a challenge, at least for me. The instructions were not very helpful in some areas and I had to rely on fotos to construct the complicated mechanical parts. One of the fotos available in the internet shows a Ka-10 landing on a truck, a ZIS 150. That would make a nice scene, I thought. As it was not possible to integrate a pilot figure into the seat and the control elements, I decided to show the aircraft in a kind of fictional scene after landing on the truck. The closest thing to a ZIS-150 I could find was a ZIS-164 by Armada hobby. That required some work to adopt the front grille. As all of the loading area was terribly warped, another kit by Trumpeter of a Chinese truck was needed to replace these parts. The figures are by CMK. Why one of the officers is holding a bottle...well, we don't know. Maybe he is saying: "Excellent landing, Comrade pilot, have a glass of vodka!" which is full of prejudices!! Hope you like the little scene! cheers, Norbert
  19. Hello. I present you my latest finished model. The 1:72 Sale Zvezda Mi-24V in the colors of the Macedonian air force.I fully rescribed the panels because the kit ones are almost non existent.I also riveted the model to give it a bit more authentic look. The cockpit was upgraded by the eduard pre colored Pe set that is actually a bit bigger than the kit parts and needs quite the trimming with a metal file for it to fit properly. The paints used are revell enamels.I managed to scratchbuild the aso-2v Flares on the back and designed and printed the decals myself on a laser printer and microscale dekal paper.I couldnt reccomend the paper enouhg. One of the best I have seen.I will be definetley getting more of it in the futre.
  20. On Saturday (24th), I went to Scale Scotland 2022, I had a wonderful time. I bought a few kits but this one especially excited me because I've wanted one for a while and I've liked wildcats/martlets since I went to the FAA museum in RNAS Yeovilton when I was younger. I personally think the martlet/wildcat looks excellent in FAA camo. Today I started working on her. I'm quite happy with the cockpit and landing gear. Because of how small the kit is, construction and initial painting went very quickly I did all if this in one day! This might be a speedbuild depending on whether I'll have more workbench time this week
  21. Hello to all of you.I have just finished my 1:72 R.V.Aircraft MiG-21 UM of the Serbian Air Force.I hae upgraded the cockpit a bit and finished the model with Mr.hobby and Mr.color paints. The decals came from LIft Here decals and I am quite pleased how it turned out.I hope you will like it as well. Regards,Dragan
  22. Here is my Mirage 2000EG of Hellenic Air Force in 1:72. Modelsvit kit 72073, made almost "out of the box", except for resin AM39 Exocet missiles (Eduard), metal Pitot tube and tip of refueling probe (Master) and pylons for Exocets (scratch). Painted with Gunze Mr.Hobby C series. Thank for watching!
  23. Just smashed out the cockpit last night. First Bandai kit, Primed in SMS Surfacer Black https://www.scalemodeller.com.au/products/primer-surfacer-black-50ml Painted the Canopy and front cluster in SMS Gunship Grey. I haven't decided if I'll use the clear or glass free canopy and hatch so I'm painting both https://www.scalemodeller.com.au/products/premium-gunship-grey-fs36118-30ml?_pos=2&_sid=abe991cfe&_ss=r Interior in SMS Neutral Grey https://www.scalemodeller.com.au/products/premium-neutral-grey-30ml?_pos=1&_sid=4de655062&_ss=r Painting Vader Head: SMS Jet Black Satin parts: SMS Advance Black Check switch panel thingy: SMS Advance Black with some Gunship Grey mixed in Eyes: SMS Clear Red over SMS Jet Black Belt Buckle: SMS Hyperchrome Pen Rest: SMS Surfacer Black primer SMS Interior Grey SMS Super Clear Tamiya Black Panel Line Wash Added SMS Super Clear Tamiya Panel Line Wash Photographed with better lighting than earlier pic Super Clear and Decals These decals aren't bad but they're definitely not Cartograph They're a faithful reproduction of the kit bashed original studio model so they don't quite fit the spaces and are real fiddley to work with. Starting to assemble cockpit base. Coin in the reference photos is an Australian 10c piece, this kit is TINY Detailed the back with SMS Hyperchrome pen and test fit Added some Tamiya Black Panel Line Wash for a little more contrast and gloss coated over the top. I left it glossy as limited light will get into the cockpit anyway so any extra sheen or reflection is going to make it that much more visible. The glass free piece has subtly more detail than the clear on the underside of the hatch. But with the hatch closed it'll never be seen.
  24. Might as well jump in, doesn't come any more Canadian than this. Well, maybe if you posed it next to a moose and a Mountie.... The infamous Avro Arrow......
  25. Hello! After recently finishing my gannet I decided to finish another "purgatory shelf" model (what I call my shelf of doom/old WIPs). The Eduard MiG-21 is a lovely kit, I just lost interest in it for a while. During the Summer Holidays I finally had a chance to go back home to Hungary again (after three years!) and I visited the Szolnok Reptár Aerospace museum. It was brilliant. Being up close and personal with all these aircraft inspired me to finally go back and finish my MiG and I must say I am very pleased with the result! Without further ado, here she is; In the end I ended up having a lot of fun with this model and the aftermarket decals by HADmodels behaved well. Only issue was the stencils were misnumbered and I had to do most of it by eye, I can still definitely recommend it though if you have good reference photos (which I did because of my museum visit ). I hope you all enjoyed looking at this and thank you for looking. Next up (probably): Trumpy 1:72 Westland Wyvern
