  1. built this a couple of years ago. with a bit of careful masking, you can create museum type windows in the clear fuselage half (getting the masking to match up on both sides of the clear fuselage half was the fun bit, but well worth it in the end) This is mine so you can see what i mean
  2. I brought this kit just before christmas. one of the best kits I have built. no issues fitting the wings to the fuselage and the 3d printed extras really bring the detail to another level
  3. That would be something! I highly recommend it. Only draw back was a number of small parts in the cockpit, but the engineering on the wing fit and the bottom rear section was very clever and fit like a glove. It is SAAF number 11 OTU. Not sure what that means, but I was drawn by the different colour scheme with the yellow wing stripes and boxes on the fuselage. Wanted something that stands out from the usual brown/green
  4. This was my christmas build. Mostly completed before the new year (just weathering and matt coat was needed. This is the Arma 'Jubilee' edition of the 1/48 Hurricane which came with 3d printed seats with belts (2 of them) 2 different kinds of printed exhausts and 2 different sets of printed guns. I used a montex mask set as I liked the different colour scheme provided by the set. The raised rivet detail on the wings did pose a bit of an issue when masking and painting the roundels (ended up with a bit of overspray with the underwings, but managed to resolve the issue by the time I came to do the upper wings) One of the best kits I have built, everything just goes together right. no wing root issues or filling needed.
  5. Thank you very much. That is high praise indeed. The invasion stripes were a bit of a pain to pain (particularly to wrap them underneath the fuselage stars and bars, but once I got the measurements right, they look good. I tried to get tonal variety with the OD upper too rather than have just a single colour all over. This was the basic kit, but I think you get everything you need in the box to build a decent model. The seat with moulded seatbelts seemed good enough to me and the cockpit is very well detailed. The wing root join was spot on and I dont think any filler was needed. Oh, I am sure I will. I was building a 1/48 Arma Hurricane during the christmas break and it is nearly ready for weathering.
  6. The transparancies were a real pain to fit. I did two at first and clamped them to get a strong bond before trying to fit the top section. ended up getting a glue fingerprint on one window by accident, I thought that the model was ruined, but managed to polish it out, not 100% clear after, but better than I expected. Thanks. I tried to not over do the chipping (particularly as it is 1/72 scale) Came out well. not sure the panel lines are that defined on the model in real life, I think the camera just caught them right.
  7. I pre ordered this and started it a couple of months ago when it arrived. the detail on the kit is gorgeous. The build goes together nicely (although tolerances can be a bit tight when joining painted parts. Most of the markings are done by masking and painting except for the tail numbers and the checkerboard nose design. The ariel on top of the aircraft is annoying added early in the build and I accidentally broke it off and lost it (it pinged across the modelling room) the last job I did was making a replacement out of scrap plastic. A thoroughly enjoyable build
  8. If this is the panel directly infront of the windscreen, I didnt have any issues with mine. Used a little drop of superglue on 1 side to get it lined up nicely, then a couple of drops on the other side to get that side lined up tight before adding the tamiya thin glue. The finish is almost spot on. Didnt realise a fuss was being made about this as I thought it was a great way of finishing the front section without losing the detail.
  9. Definately takes a bit more time than a decal and each mask tends to need repositioning a few times until it is in the right place, but as you say, the actual finish is much better than a decal.
  10. Thats what I thought. The green works for the aircraft. Thanks I tried to give the green tonal variance by highlighting the panels with a lighter green and then lightly overspraying with the original colour to blend. Thanks Chris. I didnt use the decals. This was a paint mask set, so the shark mouth is painted. I cannot recommend the kit enough. it is one of the most stress free builds I have had.
  11. Thanks guys. The sand colour is a home mix and I tried to tone it down with highlights of lighter brown. Below is how it looked with the two tone green, which I really liked, just means I have to build another 😁
  12. What can I say about this kit. It is a beautiful kit to build, the engineering is amazing and fit is fantastic. I loved the fact they provided 3 metal balls to fit in the nose and engine nacelles to prevent it becoming a tail sitter. An absolute joy to build and I would highly recommend it to anyone. Painted using a montex mask kit. The shark mouth almost broke me. I found the best way to do it was to cut it into pieces and then join them up on the complex curves, Am very pleased with how they came out. The wheels are resin replacements as are the turbo chargers. The stencils were aftermarket too. I know the green isnt probably the correct shade, but I like how it looks.
  13. Hi All, One of two recently completed builds. Airfix's Stuka. Completed using Montex masks for the main markings. I was really pleased with the two tone green, not too enamoured with the desert yellow on top, it just doesnt look quite right to my eyes.

    Getting married!

All the best for the next stage of your adventure with your soon to be wife. My wife and I celebrated our 11th wedding anniversary this year. That ring box is amazing and the star chart for the location and date of the wedding is a genius idea.
  15. Hi all. Made a bit of progress with the Apache. Main colour on. Used AK interactive paint for the help green with tamiya NATO green for colour variation. I have spent the past few days putting the decals on. The decals are absolute garbage. They are very difficult to apply and once on, cannot be easily loved into position. I had to use a gallon of decal softener to get them to settle. I believe caracal decals are releasing replacements soon. I have also added some cabling to the engine and installed it Photo etch fins added. What a pain in the butt, wish they were moulded on instead
  16. Thanks Mike. The silver was a last minute idea to get it finished for the west Norfolk show. I like your idea, am going to overlay the edges with red. Thanks for the idea
  17. Hi All, I moved house last October and finally finished my new modelling space in the garage in March. Below are pictures of the first model I started building and completed in my new hobby space. I used a fair amount of Eduard kits to add detail to the different areas of the b-17. I also added lights in the waist section, but this area was less populated than the other areas detailed. I have since been told that the etch sets are wrong in a couple of areas, the cockpit seats shouldnt have shoulder restraints and the radio operators desk is given navigation equipment by Eduard instead of providing it for the navigator desk. I have also been told the radio room and nose section shouldnt be green, but I decided that I liked it, so call it artistic licence (i feel it shows off the detail better than the silver in the waist section). I was pleased with how the superchargers on the wings came out. All were done with paint rather than using oils or weather powders after. The markings (bar the nose marking) were all masked and painted as I think the finish is better than the finish you get with decals. This is a big beast and only just fitted inside my photo booth. https://flic.kr/p/2oKkmXL
  18. My boy did that last year at Brampton. He built and painted the airfix ww1 tank on the make and paint and put it straight on the stand 🙂 he does well out of the shows as other members often give him their tombola prizes if they dont want them.
  19. The Bedford club enjoyed the day out and my 9 year old son enjoyed the tombola and the make and paint and he was very proud to get the second place certificate for the Junior competition. Although I had to put up with him telling me all the way home that he must be a better modeller than me as he won a certificate and I didnt 🙂
  20. Thanks Guys. I wanted it to look weathered and used, but didnt want to go too overboard. The roundel on the turret was a real pain to mask and paint due to the complex shape of the top of the turret. Had to respray the white a couple of times. Am pleased with the final result of the model though.
  21. Fun kit to build. I decided to use the turret top section with the closed hatch rather then one with the open top and lewis gun which is the correct top for this version, because there was no detail inside the turret. I didnt use the kit decal for the roundel on top or the emblem on the bonnet. I masked and painted them.
  22. Peteh1969. Thanks for the pictures. They will definitely come in handy now I am at the painting stage.
  23. Thank you. The kit is great, maybe a bit overly complicated in places, but everything seems to come together well.
