    Model Paints

Hi girls & boys, first off, not sure about the right location for this question. so admins feel free to move: I will be starting modelling again, soon after a 30 year absence. the last kit built was 1994. when i left i was still using humbrol enamels, revell and xtracolour paints. humbrol, revell and xtracrylics were only just coming out back then, so i had few. i did also have a few tamiya, but rarely used them. now looking at tooling up to start again, i've been buying up kits. and tools. but i have got to start buying paints for my projects. but there are sooooooo many brands out there now. i've never airbrushed. and not sure i want to go down that road, unless maybe to prime, gloss, and matt an overall finished project. Who's paints should i be looking at and why, do any of them cater to scale effect right out of the bottle.? they may be true to life to the real thing. but on 48-32nd may seem too dark.
  3. i was planning on building this exact same bird from the xtradecal series. as i want to gift this to a retired veteran who used to work on them what would you say would be the best paint for that dull natural metal look?
  4. Why was my comment about the Meng kit removed?
  5. Thanks, I wasn't specifically going to go for the look of the missile. As it's from a comic. But being in nato, I would assume it could carry anything that fits. Thanks for the link and weathering tips
  6. im going to be using some sparrows nicked from a 1/144th tonka, because in some of the comic drawings those missiles actually look more like sparrows. Kudos on the Bulldogs, i would never have thought of using smaller missiles from a 1/72nd scale kit
  7. Hi everyone. I am returning to model making after a very long absence. 1995 to be exact. Time, work, and living space has kept me from the hobby. I've had a what if project in my mind for a very long time. And its something i am very excited to build. Because as much as i've searched, i dont think anyone has ever done it before. So i have a few questions as i have been so long out of the game, and the model i have in mind will require i little bit of scratchbuilding. I need to fabricate a tail gun similar to what is on the back end of a Tu-95, B-52 etc. It would be an automated turret, not a manned one. what would be the best diameter to use for guns in 1/144th scale. How would i go about achieving that chalkboard look of the SR-71 in 1/144th scale And how best to build something similar to these Rocket pods
  8. Why has the british variant not been covered after all this time, not even any official conversions by anyone? And yet, so many US variants
  9. I wish there was a way to do an FGR2 in 32nd
  10. I would also like this in bigger scale
  11. I used to work at the aircraft museum, many years ago. I know XL319 quite well, inside & out
  12. thanks guys, those are the one i thought were missing from airfix. I'll pass along the info to hannants
  13. Can anyone tell me if me, if any additional markings have been added to XH558 in this, her final airshow season. I cant be sure, i thought i saw some at RIAT. The reason i ask, is if there are additional markings, i need photos of them. I've been in touch with David Hannant and he's says that although airfix has exclusive rights to produce decals of 558 from the trust. Hannants could produce the additional markings Airfix's decal sheet was produced in 2010 Do you have photos of the additional markings we could see, it might be possible with the agreement of Airfix to put them on an Update sheet that is at present in preparation. Regards, David Hannant
  14. I want a brand new tooling (would be great if trumpeter took it on) of a Fiat G.91R/3 in 1/24th scale (wet dream) or i'd settle for 1/32nd 48th just isnt big enough how do kit makers know what us folks want anyway? do they troll these types of boards/listen to magazines? I've been emailing Revel for the past 5 years trying to get them to do a 1/32nd Bell 222 so i can have a nice big Airwolf
