  1. Thanks for that, Rich. Obviously the Mobile Launch Platform was extensively redesigned for the Shuttle - blast holes in a different place, and of course the service tower was taken away - but I didn't know they'd modified the Crawler itself.
  2. Are you sure those are Apollo era? There's a subtle clue in the background of the middle photo that says otherwise...
  3. Very nice. Something for me to aim for. (Not literally!)
  4. Baaaaaaaah! If it isn't a 1:24 plane then my hopes are for either a Shackleton or a retooled Stirling.
  5. As you were...it's not Ocean Grey, it's bleedin' Army Green. Yes, I know they don't look anything like each other but one is Humbrol 106 and the other is 102 and I'd remembered the number wrongly when I was looking through the vintage paint stash, which was in a cupboard with a dim light...Once I saw it in daylight I realised something was wrong. So my Typhoon build is still stalled (as Enzo's appears to be; he hasn't posted for more than a fortnight! )
  6. Very nice. I'm actually building one of these myself at the moment - not for the GB as the decals are outside the time frame. I was sailing along quite nicely until I came to an abrupt halt last night when I realised I don't have any Ocean Grey paint. So it's on hold until the weekend when I can get to Wonderland. To make sure the muse doesn't desert me meantime, I'll have to work on something else. Might make a start on the C-47... (Later) I've found an old tin of Ocean Grey enamel. I haven't opened it yet but it does make a splashing sound when I shake it so it isn't a dried-up solid lump. The C-47 will have to remain in the stash a while longer...
  7. Rich, I wonder if you're aware of this diecast model from Dragon. It's 1:400 scale, so just slightly smaller than yours!
  8. As I've said elsewhere, the reason the BV141 never went into service had nothing to do with its unorthodox design. It was because it used the same engine as the Do217 and the Fw190. The factory where these were made had been bombed by the RAF and numbers were limited. The Luftwaffe felt that bombers and fighters were more important to the war effort than reconnaissance planes (you can't argue with that) so production of the 141 was stopped and the Fw189 - which used a different engine - got the nod instead. Even though, as you said, it didn't meet the requirement for a single-engine aircraft!
  9. Or taikonauts or spationauts, if you're being picky!
  10. She was first, but Pam Melroy was Commander of STS-120 in 2007.
  11. Just found this post. The spacecraft got off okay and the crew are now aboard the ISS. However whoever wrote the story needs a good slap. Yelena Serova is not the first female cosmonaut in 17 years - she's the first RUSSIAN one. There have been dozens of women from other countries who have flown in that time, many of them launched BY the Russians. So the ISS is not a boys-only clubhouse as the article implies. Two of them have even commanded it! In all there have been 58 women in space - one of them (Peggy Whitson) has spent 376 days on orbit, on two separate flights. Another is the joint holder of the EVA duration record - 8 hours 56 minutes. So despite what the article implies, they're not just up there to make the tea...
  12. I have a mental image of you digging through the council tip by torchlight, like that bloke who threw away a laptop with four million bitcoins on! Lovely job, though.
  13. Were their children Bulleid at school? More toy trains?
  14. "That's one small step for a Minion...one giant WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! for Minionkind!"
  15. In that third picture, the marking on the tank on the left (9W) is the answer to a question Richard Wagner was once asked. "Excuse me, Herr Wagner - do you spell your name with a 'V'?" And Wagner replied...
  16. I was going to comment on the decals, as the 'worm' logo is no longer in use. However if the lander is a 1993 design then you're probably okay. Though I don't think they ever used the worm and meatball at the same time.
  17. Oh, thanks a lot, now I have the damn theme tune going round my head!
  18. I don't think silicone counts as plastic - not in the sense we use it in BritModeller.
  19. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-29253788 Not as exciting as a lander but good news nevertheless...
