Excellent work Terry - you've captured that fuselage curve to a T as well as the reflections in the bare metal finish. Looks like something straight out of Thunderbirds (in a good way). Nice to see a civvy subject as well. Now if you could only follow this up with a Fokker F27...
Nice one
Was this a Blender model, Neil, or from a photo/plein-air sketch?
Hope you visit the Hunter again - a pair of these in one of your low-level 'valley chase' scenes would look the biz.
@Neil
Ah, you were already there with the jets. OK then, an aircraft carrier
I've seen some of the work on Military Mesh and it's very impressive but personally I prefer what you're doing - using 3D models as a means to an end for 'real' paintings. I can appreciate the skill that goes into digital work but it never seems to have the immediacy of the more traditional methods.
Fantastic work, Clave. These are absolutely immaculate.
Psychologically wasn't there a bit of a disconnect between how these aircraft were painted up for party-time and the nature of the actual work they were being used for... ? Or was that all part of the bravado thing?
Looks excellent . I remember trying Blender some time ago and was just overwhelmed by the interface. You obviously had a clear idea of where you wanted to be and managed to hack a path through to it. Any jets on the horizon, Neil? Now there's a challenge for the new year...
Looks very smart Neil. I see you've captured the - not sure how to describe it - the change of angle of the wing's leading edge near the fuselage (if you can follow that). And that curve along the fuselage spine. Are you already planning some Hurricane paintings because that model's now surely ready to go
Thanks for reply, Colin. That's quite a mix of brands I'm sticking with watercolours for the time being but - aaargh!!! - may cross the floor if they get any more infuriating.
Good luck at the summer exhibition!
Hi 135modeler
Is this watercolour you're using? Or inks, sort of stippled on? That looks a very distinctive style with great potential for capturing metal finishes, bare or painted. Spent many hours trying but my watercolour sucks
Hi Colin
Aha - this is the painting you were writing about in other threads. Well worth the wait, it looks superb
Just out of interest: any particular brand of acrylics you prefer and what, if any, mediums?
Ah glad you like it There's quite a lot of stuff in there with an aviation theme. Don't miss John LaGatta's (watercolour?) biplane and Charles Sheldon's beautiful 'Fly Girl'.
Looking good. Nice modelling on the undercarriage. Are you planning to do the whole aircraft or just the front?
There's just something about those WW2 RAF schemes: beautiful and brutal at the same time.
