  1. Hi all, after a long break (years) I am now older and more patient, so for once I intend to actually finish a kit in a more than half-arsed way. I have only made about ten kits in my life (mainly ending up more glue than plastic). I received the Vulcan as a Christmas gift, already knowing about the fit issues, so I kept putting off the mating of parts. However it has now come to the time. So obviously after joining the wings to the body, I immediately went out the next day and brought my first ever filler. I went with squadron green as it seems to get mentioned a lot. So imagine the scene, a person who has barely managed to get a kit together before, and a Airfix Vulcan and a tube of squadron green. In a nutshell, HELP!! Any tips on how to work with the stuff greatly appreciated :-/
  2. I'm back after many years and all projects were shelved due to children. So after finally remembering my password I'm checking out any replies. I'm liking the idea of the puma! Almost forgot they existed! Awesome bird and loving the idea of the RNLI orange and blue! Something bright would be an interesting change, and also times have changed, so the SAR role isn't operated by the forces anymore :-(
  3. Interesting thought! Again sadly I imagine a Black Hawk would be too large (although now my crazy mind is thinking of a supervillan style floating hideout, complete with some kind of Rapier missiles, Anti-ship conversion Apache on the pad etc) - I've always had more imagination than sense (or money)
  4. Hi all, being just a 'casual' moddeller and a bit of a less than frequent visitor to the forum I am just after some thoughts/advicee. I am slowly but surely working through the 1/72 Hermann Marwede and also the Airfix Severn lifeboat, when I had the interesting thought run through my head - what if the RNLI had the similar budget to their German counterparts? What if they got their hands on a 43ft rescue cruiser? So, already my mind is down the model shop ordering another revell kit (and a shed load of orange paint! That's a sizeable superstructure!) Then my thoughts turned to the heli-deck - something really needs to be sitting there, especially if it's an 'unrestricted budget/red tape" situation. So people, what thoughts? Obviously initial thoughts of a Sea King (or perhaps a Merlin in bright spanking RAF rescue yellow) have been dismissed as I would like to keep some form of reality, and the deck/ vessel itself wouldn't be able to support such an airframe (physically or logistically) and a heli-med style Eurocoptor just seems a bit............. Weedy! I'm thinking Lynx (if it ain't broke, don't try to fix it etc, butwas wondering if aa) there are any other possibilities? And should I go with a generic RAF colour scheme? A Generic grey/red Navy scheme? (more logical maybe? Ormassive what if - (as if the main idea isn't hare-brained enough) - the RNLI operated their own airframes? Any ideas on a colour scheme? Full on orange seems a bit much, and following hull colours (red, blue, orange) just seems a bit cheesy Any thoughts suggestions gratefully appreciated :-) I may post this in aircraft forum too for any heli fanatics thoughts

  6. so it appears the answer to the question "are the gears and bays white or grey?" is "yes!"
  7. well it appears spike has the upper hand, as they say, the proofs in the pudding!
  8. now i'm sure with some research i coulda found out, but triggering a lively discussion seemed much more fun so for gear and bays i'm presuming due to the differing ideas, that the grey is VERY light? How about the intakes?
  9. ok, i understand there has been plenty of discussion on this subject already, but what are the true colours of u/c and its bays/door interiors? Ditto for the interior of the intakes. Airfix has them as satin white 130, revell has the gear as white and the bays as light grey, and the airbrakes as one colour and the airbrake bays as another. As i am aware the true colour of u/c bays is very light grey, humbrol 28 perhaps? But is this true for the gear itself?.
  10. no offence to anyone local, but i certainly dont count myself as a janner, strictly thanetian
  11. model shops aside, i think i might prefer that all joking aside, with the amount of military personnel and instalations around, that some enterprising person may have seized the opportunity, although i'm aware that it's not just forces people that are into it of course! But it was living near an air base that fired my imagination
  12. typically thats the one day i'm not in plymouth, but will be able to visit my failsafe shop in Kent that day
  13. looking bleak then :-( yeah antics is a case of lots of 70 pound 1/35 chinook and faun tank transporter stuff and other well out of my clutches kits, or 1/72 spits and hawks, although there is the variation of airfix, revell, italeri. Cant see why i'm complaining, obviously thats variety enough not got a single kit from there or modelzone, all ebays or kent shops when visiting family, so guess exeter isnt that far compared to kent
  14. does anybody know of any good (or poor for that matter) model shops in the plymouth area? The local antics range tends to be small and pricey, and modelzones is just one corner of the shop, with what seems to be nothing but revell items
  15. The whole iron curtain thing never occurred to me in the past, i wonder if they're has ever been any fantastic eastern bloc manufacturers? I wouldn't like to think how a hasegawa kit would compare as a percentage of eastern wages back in the day, yet i'm also sure that people must have had the same passion for the hobby! Unless they're the best scratchbuilders in the world that was not meant to sound generalising in any way naturally
