  1. https://ukdefencejournal.org.uk/another-type-26-frigate-named-hms-newcastle/ If memory serves that is now: #1- HMS Glasgow #2- HMS Belfast #3- HMS Cardiff #4- HMS Birmingham #5- HMS Sheffield #6- HMS Newcastle #7- #8- HMS London I presume that they are throwing the net out of sequence in a bid to pre-empt any idea of cancelling number 8, or 7 and 8. One slot free for anyone wishing to make suggestions to the Admiralty.
  2. Dodo models do the Fridtjof Nansen class, to which the Helge Ingstad belonged. http://www.modelwarships.com/reviews/ships/HNoMS/FridtjofNansen-700-do/index.htm HTH, Ian

  5. Just leaves #5, 6, and 7 to be named. http://twitter.com/AdmPhilipJones
  6. I agree, there are policing roles that do not require a billion pound warship to fulfil. And I disagree with some who say that this is money down the drain. British warships built by British workers to fill both warfighting and humanitarian roles, and maybe gain export orders, is surely win-win all round, particularly if it enjoys export success among navies whose pockets don`t stretch to the Type 26. And then there is the ongoing manpower and recruitment fiasco. But that`s another matter...... Cheers, Ian

  9. Well put Paul, more eloquently stated than I would have managed. A truly impressive achievement, looks the part from a distance, simply astonishing close-up. The Americans (who know a thing or two about carrier operations) seem on-side and enthusiastic, as are the RN, FAA, and RAF. I strongly suspect that they know what they are talking about. Well done all round, once again.
  10. No problem. Here`s more from Save the Royal Navy.org https://www.savetheroyalnavy.org/f35-arrives-on-hms-queen-elizabeth/
  11. The excellent UKDJ has video and stills of the first F-35B landing and take off aboard HMS Queen Elizabeth. https://ukdefencejournal.org.uk/in-pictures-hms-queen-elizabeth-and-her-first-f-35-jets/ Navigate the `sea` section of UKDJ for more. Well done all involved.
  12. I meant GED-DIN!, as in `back of the net...he shoots he score`, and kind of realised I`d made a mess of it. But yes, excellent endorsement in time for the Canadian selection process; co-operation strengthened with a valuable ally; and dare we dream? Possible future additions to the eight already planned for the RN. Good news day, hurrah!
  13. GED-DIN! 👍 https://ukdefencejournal.org.uk/bae-systems-type-26-frigate-wins-australian-frigate-bid/
  14. Thread Regenerate- I see Hannants is advertising the 72nd scale Kitty Hawk F-35 trio as a future release. Here`s the blurb for the F-35B, posted on the Hannants website within the last few days. https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/KH16102 Any new info out there?
  15. Probably more relieved than happy, although happy too. https://ukdefencejournal.org.uk/new-nuclear-submarine-hms-agincourt-to-be-funded/
  16. https://ukdefencejournal.org.uk/new-type-26-frigate-named-hms-cardiff/ St David`s Day announcement to rank alongside the city names of Glasgow and Belfast.
  17. I can remember the halcyon days when we thought it was a shoe-in that 43 and 111 would be reforming at Leuchars. `But that was before the dark times......` 12 Squadron has a fine heritage though, Cheers, Ian

  19. The BBC online article says it is a package that includes training and support, along with unknown quantities of Brimstone missiles, Meteor missiles, Paveway IV, whiles tele land BBC talked of other elements including radar systems. Cheers, Ian
  20. 6 billion quids buys..... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-42302767 Cheers, Ian Edit- unless I miss my guess, that is now the four core participants and five export customers; Austria, Saudi, Oman, Kuwait, and Qatar. Today`s announcement being the confirmation of an earlier `declaration of intent`.
  21. Bit of a pyrrhic victory to get two new carriers at the expense of everything else (contrary to what was promised- `RN getting bigger` etc.) --------------- I scrubbed the rest of my original post when I felt the veins on the side of my head expanding and contracting at an unhealthy tempo.
  22. First Sea Lord announces name of second Type 26 frigate: https://ukdefencejournal.org.uk/new-type-26-frigate-named-hms-belfast/ Cheers, Ian
  23. Interesting as the pics don`t convey scale very well. Quite a leap from the huge testbeds pictured in the nineties. Said to be the counter to new gen hypersonic missiles for T26 and T45. We shall see. Cheers, Ian
  24. I found the same when researching Falklands GR.3. And that it`s the distress of the intense heat that gives them their `weathered` look. I painted the forward nozzles standard camo then blitzed them with weathering. Rear nozzles are bare metal as Jabba says. Cheers, Ian
