  1. Sorry Tom, I forgot to mention that this was my first go at printing decals. http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=56318 Cheers, Ian
  2. Kinda lost my WiP-ing way, but one is finished... Cheers, Ian
  3. Tried my hand at copying custom decals from my own pics for the first time. ..and one of the originals from 6 Sqn curtain-raiser, Leuchars Sat 11/09/10.. The decals are thicker than new commercial types, but are pretty presentable. Most the work is done in resizing on the computer which I did by comparing with scans of commercial types for other squadrons. And I still love building the RoG Typhoon. A bit of time invested and The World`s your piece-box. Feedback is appreciated. Cheers, Ian
  4. That is a very nice Typhoon build, Daktari, Nice one!! Cheers, Ian
  5. Pretty emotional day what with the BoB anniversary, the Vulcan, the Red Arrows, and a nice touch at the end leading up to the sunset ceremony; `The Past`- a Spitfire and Hurricane fly-by, `The Present`- a fly-by by four Treble one Tornadoes, and `The Future`- when 6Sqn Typhoon `EH` powered down the flightline. There was a tangible feelgood mood and appreciation at Leuchars today, perfect backdrop to welcome the Tiffie. Thanks to all concerned and here`s to `The Future`. Cheers, Ian
  6. ....and all safe and snug in their Scottish new home... Nice pics Gary, thanks for the look! Cheers, Ian
  7. Great to see RAF Typhoons coming to their second (ahem) third operational base. Still, it will be bittersweet to see the Tornado go after such excellent service to UK air defence. I honestly get quite melancholic when I see an F.3 rumble by these days...ah well, that`s progress I guess. Ian (bah humbug)
  8. Thank you guys, this has helped considerably. I`m defineatly doing an Apache, but I`m toying with the idea of a deck-top dio with folding blades etc....... Maybe just a pipe-dream...maybe not. Thanks again Cheers, Ian
  9. Hello all, whiles the web is a many splendid thing it has given me a few contradictory results on the UK Apache which I hope someone can help me with. First off, what`s the story concerning external fuel tanks. I understood that the UK Apache could carry four in ferry mode but never carried fuel tanks when carrying missiles or rocket pods. But I`ve heard this disputed. Second, I`ve read the range for an Apache given as both 462km and 1700km. I realise the exact figure may be classified but can anyone supply me with a ball-park figure? Or is 464 to 1700km the ball-park figure? It will help me with a planned build as I`m debating to `tank` or not to `tank` my Apache. Thanks for any help you guys can supply. Cheers, Ian
  10. That seems to be the consensus, but nothing concrete as you say. Same scuttlebuck has Treble One squeaking in as Leuchars` third squadron IF procurement allows (and that, of course, is a very big `if`). Cheers, Ian
  11. Local media reporting 6 Sqn reforming at RAF Leuchars on 6th September then receiving colours and showing jets at the annual BoB airshow on Saturday 11th September. Get the cameras ready. Cheers, Ian
  12. The forward fuselage, cockpit, and the FAST packs on the Academy version need a lot of TLC. But beyond that, it`s not a bad kit. Defineatly re-inforce the arching strut over the nosewheel. It is very thin and will buckle, and needs a little back-up with plasticard. The RoG version is out of production right now. Hase currently has their kit out and probably doesn`t want two identicaly moulded kits competing, particularly as the Hase version is so much more expensive than the identical RoG version (different decals is all). Best of luck with yours Trev, look forward to seeing it. Cheers, Ian
  13. Kinetic F-16I will be out soon, it looks better and comes with extensive stores. Yah boo sucks to Hasegawa. I feel better now. Salutations, Ian
  14. Basically, you can get a nice mudmover in 72nd from Academy AND Hasegawa/RoG, it just takes a lot more work with Academy. For example, here`s two Academies and a RoG. I`m certainly far from Premier League when it comes to model building so I think that getting good results in 72nd needn`t be impossible, it just requires a little work (a little more work with the Academy kit). Academy Revell Defineatly go for Hase/RoG if you can, but there is rewards for investing time in either kit. Cheers, Ian
  15. I lost my head in the heat of whatever heat I was in, apologies. Is `Speckled Trout` a drinking reference of some kind perhaps? (My particular field of expertise) Cheers, Ian
  16. By the law of averages, you`d think that at least some big defence projects could be brought in on time and reasonably near budget by UK PLC. Someone, somewhere, is having a laugh at our expense as they light their Havana with a rolled-up fifty. And it isn`t our brave men and women in uniform having to make do because the shrinking defence budget was squandered on cost overruns and/or white elephants, again. Our service personel deserve better, they really bloody do.
  17. Thanks Trev, I see you might be contemplating the Hase/RoG kit in a seperate thread and I`d say this is the way to go. The parts fit and detailing is far superior to Academy. The Academy kit comes with a seperate nose section running back to the base of the intakes so you will have access to the HUGE join line which takes a lot of sanding, then filler, then a lot more sanding, to straighten out. In the procces you loose all the nearby surface detail. The Hase/Rog kit is in a more conventional horizontal fit of two-halves, fits snuggly, and requires minimal clean-up work, defineatly the way to go. Here`s my RoG version which was an utter joy after building the Academy kit. Defineatly RoG/Hase is the better kit right now. Cheers, Ian
  18. `New` Revell/Hasegawa (same basic kit) in 72nd by a country mile, although even this has problems. Fairly easy to rectify though. Beware, Hase does an older F-15E kit that is pants, and an newer one (currently called `Iraqi Freedom`) which is the one you want. Cheers, Ian Edit- Yes, the parts fit on the Revell/Hase kit is far superior over the Academy kit, as is the detailing.
  19. Hi Trev The Academy `E` does not include the middle pylon of three fitted on both conformal fuel tanks as seen here on this RoG F-15. The join lines on the forward section are a pain and the forward undercart needs re-inforcing. You will also need to add RWR sensors at the base of the tail booms. That being said, none of this is too difficult and you can get a nice mudmover out of the Academy kit, here`s one I made earlier. HTH Cheers, Ian
  20. I have a RoG A-10 and it`s quite nice, I assume it is the newer Italeri one therefore. This boxart... http://www.modelingmadness.com/scotts/mod/us/a10preview.htm Cheers, Ian
  21. Knew I`d seen the weapons in 72nd somewhere (Model Alliance). http://www.theaviationworkshop.co.uk/cs108...b-x2-p-325.html http://www.theaviationworkshop.co.uk/cs116...b-x2-p-333.html Cheers, Ian EDIT- I`m not sure if the Model Alliance Paveway II are the most common kind, or the kind used by The RAF converted from the British 1000lb bomb, I think it is the U.S. version so no use on RAF Typhoon, can anyone confirm this before I send Tim on a wild goose chase? First link to UK 1000lb bomb is okay though. OKAY DOUBLE EDIT- I`m confused now, the description of the text seems to suggest the internationaly used American Paveway II, but the packaging seems to show a UK Tonka and describes these weapons as used in Desert Storm and Telic which would be the UK version. Anyone help with this...my head hurts (easily done).
  22. Alright Tim, Be aware that the RAF Litening pod is `reversed` with the air scoop on the port side. Like so...(I bodged the Hasegawa pods from their weapons set, but got the dimensions just a shade too long me thinks). http://www.arcair.com/Gal9/8001-8100/gal80...n-Buick/00.shtm I believe the pylons missing from the RoG kit are on the way from AM but not quite here yet in 72nd. I`ve looked for my Flightpath Tonka set which had some UK weapons but cannot find it (I may have swapped it), I hope you get lucky in your search, and I hope we finally get a definitive UK/NATO weapons set from some kind model company. I look forward to seeing your bombed-up Typhoons. Cheers Tim, HTH, Ian
  23. Check out Bobski`s replies on ARC (top of page 2), he`s making one in 32nd right now. http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index....howtopic=210202 Cheers, Ian
  24. Model Alliance`s ISTAR sheet alluded to an upcoming Sentinel release which I`ve never heard anymore about.
  25. My VERY speculative placement of EPWIII on inboards. Any further back and they would foul the undercart doors. However, it should be noted that these Hasegawa bombs have the mounting mechanism which aligns perfectly with the RoG`s kit sway braces, still allowing room for the gear doors, which is nice. http://www.arcair.com/Gal9/8001-8100/gal80...n-Buick/00.shtm As Bobski points out, pure speculation at the moment. Cheers, Ian
