  1. WOW! Great idea cheers! Love it! Would certainly be an incredibly dramatic scene if we can pull it off! Nobody thought of a riot scene....doubt anyone else would. Still got the medivac in there and the chinnook perhaps easier to get than the Merlin HC3 since it's discontinued....kinda fancied the Merlin though. I might see if I can get one. the building look like they cold be realistic enough made out of match boxes lol! What is the vehicle there? Great pics thank you! Does anyone think it possible to add some smoke effort for the dust or am i going to kill it?!
  2. Thanks Tony, we're going to canibalise a lot of these kits by the looks of it. The ambulance kit, we are going to rob the stretcher from and perhaps the decal may be useful, but the ambulance itself I'll give to one of our Junior cadets to....put together for fun/chew during canteen or something....unless anybody wants it of course?! Anyone know if the "T" is still current? Sounds like a good addition, though dayglow....not sure what we'd use in a 1:72 scale model. So the T also indicates the wind direction how? an upright T like this, the wind would be blowing North or South (blimey, I really am dumb! I need to start reading....something!) Like the idea of the dusty tarmac road too. Don't think you would be allowed to use the term, lol, but also like the idea of some curious locals! Thanks again! :-)
  3. Would that be current the TOW missiles? Is that what they'd have if they were escorting an IRT?? Cool, how far what you got with yours? (what is the "nose" all about?) I got 10 bored air cadets if you need a hand! Actually, in an effort to encourage them all to have ago, I have an instructor sorting out an Aero Modelling trophy, so I'm going to challenge them to go home and have some "dad" time, build the aircraft we need and make a squadron competition of of it! Obviously, the best one get the trophy and the pride of place on our diorama! AND! they get to do something with their dad's rather than play their computers! (hope the plan works!)
  4. I have a set & you're welcome to a spru of them,I only need a few of them. Would be great thank you....what does a spru mean lol! How many are in the set itself because i think I'll need more than one set anyway if I'm going to have 30 x reg't.
  5. Oh right! Being a bit ignorant Lynx wise! The pics you've sent, I presume those are weapons?! (sorry, I know I should be more clued up....but humour me, because I'm blatently not lol!) Erm, do the kits come with those?! Would I just have one Lynx do we know and going back to an idea I had in a previous post....no idea where, would I be better off, elevating the Lynx on a transparent rod of sorts, or enclosing the diorama and hanging it???? Thanks Claire
  6. Wow! This site was a FIND! Thanks guys, was a bit cautious as I didnt want to appear a dumb bird, but you lot have been a fantastic help! Paul, thanks for Lynx pics. Again, def useful and will definately replace the Apache with the Lynx. Danny, good ideas there. Would that be a realistic scenario re the US ground support? First choice will always be to make the British the heroes of the piece obviously! Think I'll try the Revell British modern infantry then. Apparently the guys that judge are real sticklers for inaccuracies, so how sure are you Danny that this set will be okay? (I know nothing remember, I just run a little air cadet unit) Good idea re the stretcher. Does anyone have a photo of a Merlin with a stretcher by any chance....even better, some medics..........Oh, I've realised, got a mate who's a medic, maybe she could supply some ideas there! In fact, she's been at Lyneham training, so sounds like she might be about to find out some! (guessing that's what she's been training for at Lyneham...I don't know). Tony, thanks for the input....which of your ideas is the best one/most realsitic/likely?! If you were competing, which and how many would have on there assuming you can get them lol! SniperUK, thanks for the link. I'll look on there in a minute and see what they got. I'll also see if the said release from Ceaser will work given the comp is in June. I'll phone them and beg for the prototype if I need to! Buccy Mad (lol) cheers! My RAF Reg't mate had said WMIK, but i couldn't remember what he called them....and didn't want to be the dumb bird again lol! He got back to the UK last week from Iraq and that's where I got all info from....the Merin (IRT) was my idea, the rest he described: the 30 guys, 2 bulldogs and WMIK. He also referred me to REF Reg't www, but not a massive amount to go on there....will look again though, because I didn't spend too long on it. He also said he would send some pictures when he gets back from leave. So, final questions: What will my base look like?? Last time for Germany diorama, I purchased a roll of grass....can you get a desert roll? lol!! I looked in my model shop but the closest was ballast with the railway stuff. In my imagination, it's just a flat desert....with nothing, no trees or anything, but actually thinking about it, I expect that's not the reality at all. I saw some rock moulds in Hobbycraft, are they worthwhile? And I need a casualty! But all the troops have their legs in running positions, or in a squat for firing....they don't look stretcher ready. Right, I'm going to plough the internet and see what of all these ideas I can actually buy and will let you know! Thanks all for your thoughts, ideas, experience, photos, when we have a modelling trophy to join all our sports acolades, I will have 40 very greatful young men...and a couple of girls! Claire
  7. That's very helpful thanks. Erm, yeah going to stick with this idea.....because even if another unit were to think of the same idea, it seems so challenging to me that I doubt, a) they'd stick with it they'd work as hard as us to get as much accurate detailing as my OCD will insist upon lol! My RAF Reg't friend said that they might not be on the ground but provide a fire team on the Merlin. If they were on the ground, I'd have to get the vehicles....which probably don't exist... really wouldn't ? Can i get a kit for an IRT crew then do you think? Oh, I see. Central & East then as well. Thanks again Claire
  8. Thanks for the pics. Be useful now that we're switching our covering aircraft! I did think about doing Kuwait because I have an amazing snap of a chinook flying with the burning fuel depots, would make a very dramatic diorama, however, whilst the link is obvious, don't want to run the risk of being disqualified for the scene not being in Iraq. Mind you, I guess we could just label it some random place Iraq. Landscape would work. Cheers, will definately print these pics for the cadets to use during the paint jobs!
  9. Hi, yes 1239 (Broxbourne & Hoddesdon) Squadron. Herts and Bucks. So, what did you do so well with? Was your idea as FANTASTIC as mine? Or do you think we could do better with something else? Cool, right the Lynx is in, we need to leave the door off the Merlin, is there any way to make a winch do you think? Can you buy Snatch landies in a kit then? A liney doing a flight servicing? would that be easier/better? lol! Why do you say that? Is that what you do? Thanks for tips....do tell about this "someone's" success 8 years ago!
  10. Hey, cheers for that! Very useful info there. By we, as someone else has gathered, yes, we are ATC and don't worry, I'm the boss. We're not encouraging minors to engage in chit chat with randoms on internet forums Yeah, IRT. We had a visit to 28sqn and they told us about the Golden Hour, so that's what sprang to mind when we received the rules. I was chatting to a mate (REF Reg't) who told me quite a bit of information but he's a sniper...not a modeller! I got as far as Merlin, he told me who else would be there you see...I've never been! lol! I have seen a Mk 3 on ebay....but it costs some and we're a CHARITY! so I need to be certain we can pull this together before I purchase it. I think it was something like £40 including shipping, which will be worth it if we can definately get the other items. I don't think there are Bulldogs which is a shame because that would have been cool. My mate mentioned a different type of vehicle but I can't recall the name right now. The A300 was escorted by the USAF who were reporting the damage on the wing to the crew before they landed in a minefield. Air Crash Investigation...! I was only considering it really because I want to make sure we have something different to the others. I'm hoping most units will go for an obvious fast jet option, but suspect I'll be disappointed. So, to keep things British, we'd get the Merlin (on the ground?) a Lynx providing cover which we could elevate if we got a transparent rod, or enlose the diorama in a perspex case and suspend it on fishing wire I guess (I am guessing!). I don't know what figures are available and I know we were deducted points last time for trying to blag it with US marines instead of RAF Reg't. So, our diorama was a GR3 in the woods near Bruggen or somewhere similar guarded by marines painted RAF Reg't! We still came third though! Oh, blimey, adding and removing frightens me! Is that easy to do do you think....? Thanks for help. We will win! Just need to figure out how!
  11. Hi, I've been reading through some of the posts here and some people have got some really good ideas, experience, helpful hints etc and so I'm really hoping that some of you kind folk can sort me out! We need to build a diorama with the theme Iraq 1:72 to enter into a competition. The base must measure a maximum of 1000mm X 1500mm. Trouble is, we have no real experience having only ever entered the competition once before. We are quite confident that we can win it as we are quite creative and do have an aero modeller who I think is pretty good. Last time we entered, given it was our first diorama, we came 3rd of about 30 and think we were scored down for only having one aircraft (I'm biased, but I really think the 2 that beat us....were not as good! ) My idea is to do a scene of a medivac. I'm thinking , desert (obvious landscape choice!) Merlin HC3 (can't find one ANYWHERE! I think Revell did one that has been discontinued) RAF Reg't x 30 men with an Apache providing cover for the medivac. Would like 2 bulldogs with the RAF Reg't (do these models exist?!?!?!?!? lol!) Can anyone offer any suggestions? Develop this idea? Tell me if this is possible to do? Give me a better plan? I did have one other thought actually, which I may as well hit you with at the same time, and we may build both! Watched Air Crash Investigation with the DHL A300, thought that could be a good one, but I think we'd favour an RAF based diorama. How's this for a cracking scene though: A300 with an orange LED or something in the wing giving the effect of flames, an Apache either side and a fire truck on the ground and ATC tower. I will be very grateful for help! We're only known for winning sports so need to prove ourselves here! Thank you :-)
