  1. Colin, Where does the 4.5 inches come from???? My NAA references show the Allison FRL to WRL as 23.5 inches and Merlin FRL to WRL as 26.5 inches, making a 3 inch difference. John
  2. Hello Kari. Would you happen to have any individual code letters for these Mustangs? I'm looking for the serial number for HS*Y. John
  3. Hi all, I've noticed that the up-coming decal sheet shows 'IMPI' with a Red spinner yet the front shot {shown above) appears Black. Also, in the original 'SWEETPEA'' line-up photo shows again what appears to be Black spinners. Can anyone help with spinner colour issue??? John
  4. Dave, The photo is of FR410, the 2nd XP-51G. The first XP-51G (43-43335) had it's 5-bladed Rotol prop and short tail replaced with a 4-bladed Aero Products prop and a tall tail. So in effect both' G's (43-43335 & 43-43336) and both J's (44-76027 & 44-76028) received the NA-117 tall tails.. The NA-117 eventually became the NA-126 P-51H. Short tails were 74 inches in height and the tall tails 84 inches, John
  5. Bruce.... No Mustangs from Inglewood were delivered to the RAF in Dark Earth, Dark Green and grey. All Allison and Merlin Mustangs delivered from Inglewood had Sky bottoms (except for the few Mk Ia's that had Azure Blue bottoms . Dogsbody....... Frank Hanton did not fly on the Dieppe raid.....he doctored his logbook. See 400 Sqn's Forms 540 and 541 also check online for Dieppe participants. I advised Carl V. of this some time ago. John
  6. Has any one ever seen a wartime of MV268 showing JEJ ???? Suspect the correct serial number is MV257. There was no requirement for the use of 'Sky' paint on the continent other than for codes.....as such it was not sent over...thus the use of 'White' instead. John
  7. What reason did the painter give you for painting the bottom Light Grey ANA 602 and not the correct colour i.e. Sky? John
  8. A slightly blurred photo taken at the same time shows the codes to be EO*G and serial RF848. Cheers, John
  9. Air Britain is correct. RM682 (AE*K) ran into RM687. The ORB listed RM684 which was wrong. John
  10. Eh Ben, MV260 went on to serve with 416 Sqn RCAF as DN*J. Published and unpublished photos show DN*J MV260 as having 'Normal Wingtips'. 2nd Tactical Air Force Vol. Four C. Shores C. Thomas page 747 centre photo shows MV260 taxiing out with DN*H NH915. DN*J shows 'normal' and NH915 show 'clipped' John
  11. Hi Ben, The painting may reflect an earlier a/c. SM820 didn't arrive onto 416 Sqn until September '45. All indications are that the 41 Sqn individual code letters were kept with only the sqn codes changing. You have listed NH745 as EB-V but there was as later 'V' with the serial of NH832 (also a low-back). John
  12. wellsprop....EB*N was a high-back with the serial SM820.. It went on to serve with 416 Sqn John
  13. It was the other port side that had the dinghy housing....i.e. starboard side. John
  14. Alan, The Fuller paints may have been a good match but to my knowledge Fuller was a west coast company that only supplied paint to west coast aircraft manufacturers. Cheers, John
  15. Here's a couple interesting photos...........faded paint or different colours? The Mustang photo can also be found in the September 1998 issue of Scale Aircraft Modelling. The photo caption reads 'This shot of an early production P-51B next to a P-51 clearly shows the differences in nose profile and propellors'. I assume the ambulances are the same colour but show new and faded paint. John
