  1. Nice one Col. I'm using the following book to help with my Academy SU-27 build - there's some nice images and very useful............. Red Star Fighters & Ground Attack (Wings, No 8) Information : Author : Hans Halberstadt | Published by Motorbooks International | Publication date : July 1994 | ISBN : 1872004830
  2. Brilliant - thanks again! They look a bit cleaner!
  3. Thanks Magman Looks like it could be a four colour camo unless my eyes are deceiving me - two greys and two blues, and a plain (white?) underside. Grubby jet too!
  4. Afternoon all Purchased a pretty comprehensive sheet of Flanker decals to go with my Academy model but am struggling to find any good shots of those in Vietnamese service (which I fancy doing). Can anyone point me in the right direction or have they not really been snapped very much?? Cheers Gareth
  5. Absolutely brilliant advice - thank you all. Gareth
  6. That's all good folks - thank you so much. Another question (sorry!) will etch take primer and acrylic paint as well as plastic or do I need to be looking at a different method? Thanks again Gareth
  7. Afternoon all I am about to start an Academy 1:48 SU-27 and have, courtesy of a purchase from a BM member, a resin cockpit set and Eduard detail set. I have used etch before (a long time ago) and just wondered what you recommend as the best process - do I build up the cockpit area for example first (etch included) and then prime and paint, or use the resin set, prime and paint and then use the etch? Same goes for the detail on the actual airframe - do I use the etch as part of the build process and then take it from there - or is it best left until later and added only once the bulk of the work has been done? Any hints / tips greatly appreciated. Thanks Gareth
  8. Evening all My Dad was given this last year and didn't even want to attempt it so I said I would have a go for him. I found aligning the wings very tricky, but this was nothing compared to the rigging - what a nightmare! In all honesty I couldn't cope with the thread provided so I ended up having a re-think and rigging her with fuse wire which I found a little more forgiving. This is the first WW1 model I have ever made and will probably be the last! Also, the decals seemed quite thik and forgiving but some of them just seemed far too big for the model which was a little bizarre. I struggled, even with microsol, the get them to set properly over the ribs but they don't look too bad. Some quick snaps below, but hopefully you get the idea (she needs some tidying up) - definitely a labour of love but I'm actually quite pleased with her.
  9. Being in herts you're nearer my folks Les! Thanks for the advice and encouragement everyone - I'm pursuing a suggestion from Phil Flory and if that doesn't work I might have a crack myself!
  10. I think it does for my old man but nothing else yet from the other aircrew Rich!!
  11. Thanks for the replies folks - a little frustrating but there you go. I could have a crack at the conversion but have never lopped chunks off wings and such like!
  12. Afternoon all Been having a peek at the options for Victor kits today as my Pa is 70 this July and I would love to present him with a lovely XV Squadron B1 as he served with them from 58 - 62 at Cottesmore. It looks like a fairly big conversion with the Flightpath resin kit (might be beyond me) so wondered if anyone would do this as a commission if I managed to get hold of the kit and add-ons? I think I'm right in saying that there is no readily available B1 kit that I can tackle? Any volunteers / ideas greatly appreciated. Thanks Gareth
