  1. I added the decals and did some extra weathering.
  2. Nice revetting! I do like the brown sheme too. I'm not so into Spitfires, but this one I do like .
  3. So, last time I was still struggling with the paint. But meanwhile I found a mix that will do. I had to completely repaint the whole thing, changing the light blue and the dark blue. But now I did it full freehand with little masking to get the sharp edge on the under wings. I do like this result more honestly . Freshly repainted painted and shaded. With some weathering in process ... (paint chippings, oil stains, black wash, salt trails with white paint) So next up: -little bit extra weathering (paint chipping) on the upper wings -painting the exhaust black and add some "smoke" paint (I will spray some thinned black paint on the underside of the fuselager) -painting the details on the fuselager and wings -adding the decals -adding the little stuff like the wheels etc. -coating with semi-matt clear coat
  4. That's a nice little Pirate! The colors are looking pretty good. Which Gunze color did you used for the Dark blue? It seems that I can't find the corresponding Valejo color for the dark blue (or the valejo dark blue 930 must be it). But I might figure it out trough the color reference carts if I know the right Gunze color. But before I give a try at gunze or valejo, I will give it a second attempt with Humbrol paints, mixing up a few other paints . That gives me time to check my local dealers if they can supply my with the gunze stuff.
  5. Seems that I forgot to mention that I decided to built de F4U-1A of Ira Cassius Kepford from the "Jolly Rogers" Squadron. At the moment I'm struggling with the paint colour of the dark blue. I try to mix a few Humbrol paints to get a right looking colour. I think I have found something ok, but the base paint is hu 25, which is a matt paint. With the new formulas of Humbrol, this paint dries up pretty coarsely, no matter how much thinner or what pressure setting is used ... All the new Humbrol matt paints are just become useless. I guess its time to change to Vallejo or an other acyclic based paint. So it will probably take a while to fix this.
  6. The painting progress: Primer is on. I was a bit to lazy to make my lines finer. But that doesn't really matter. The pre-shading will be only slightly visible when we are done. White (humbrol 120) has been sprayed. The mask is prepared for the next colour. I keep the Tamiya masking tape on a small distance from the body with an equivalent of blue tac called Pritt poster buddies. Light blue, like the sky in the Pacific's I guess I created different shades by spraying thinned white paint randomly over the blue paint. This way I was able to flat the blue a bit down as it was quite flashy at first . Next colour is dark blue. But first we need to mask again to cover the light blue and white paint from over-spray and to create a soft edge.
  7. Just a small update Masking is done, ready to paint I will start with painting the canopies with interior green first. Then I will prime the whole air plane and the real work can begin .
  8. Not much done, but its better than noting at all Fuselager is glued using Tamiya glue. Grinding could be kept to a minimum. Only the headrest needed a little bit filler. After some repainting, dark wash and little bit dry-brushing with white, it looks OK. Engine parts painted in metallic colour + little bit black paint, followed by a dark wash, then dry-brushed with silver paint. The front part was painted in "sky grey" actual looks more something as very light blue grey. Does any one know the colour needed for the ring I left unpainted for now? I think it should have the same colour as all other internal parts, which is some kind of mustard green. Engine assembled. And now, masking-time.
  9. Ah! thx for this one. I had some troubles in my last build with a decal where a small wing probe was attached. I probably wait until decalling is done before adding things on spots where decals should come.
  10. Thank you all for the kind comments and tips. 1) I just glued the upper and lower wings and took this warning in mind. But it seems to fit perfectly, even when I would glue it to the fuselage before adding the flap. 2) This seems the right way indeed. I saw your advice right when I was already glueing them together. So, no problem encountered so far 3) I already noticed this when i opened the box the first time . I only bend it a little, but it is not yet broken off. 4) Hmm thx for this knowledge. I drilled the holes, but I might fill them back up again. However, they could give it a nice look. It doesn't have to be perfectly historical exact to stand in my chamber on a shelve .
  11. After finishing my last model, I was a bit to enthusiast and started cutting out most pieces right away, before making any pictures of the sprue . Sry about that. But you can find a little preview with pictures of the sprue here: clickme In this build I going to try a few weathering techniques I have never tried before, to achieve the looks of a heavily used Corsair. So all tips are welcome . So I started with painting the interior parts in there base color: humbrol 69 (yellow) mixed in a 2:1 ratio with humbrol 102 (green). Then I painted a few parts black, and added details with red, brown and silver paint. Followed by a dry brushing with silver paint over the details to get them out the black. Then I added a dark wash followed by subtle dry brushing with white paint over the interior green to give it a little bit more shade effects. For the instrument panel I used the decal. It seems well enough detailed. I added seatbelt made from lead-foil coming from a bottle of champaign. Flat coat added The cockpit is almost finished and ready to close it up. Hmm, now I'm doubting about if I should drill the holes for the rockets or not. It are 8 rockets. For some reason, I don't like painting rockets and other attachments. I have to know it before I start glueing the wings
  12. For the base colour I used Humbrol enamel paints 69 (yellow) mixed with Humbrol 102 (green) 2:1. Followed by a dark wash of black oil paint. Then I did a very subtle dry brushing with white paint. I guess this would be a very suitable build. It has been a while I have been around there. I think I'm gone check the GB over there, although I have no shark mouth model myself at the moment. Thx for letting me know
  13. I didn't know humans are able to do such a detailing on a 1/72 scale model. This is really impressive. I'm pretty sure that good vision is not enough, you must have some goblins around to do this level of detailing ... After seeing this, all my efforts on scratch building seat belts just looks ridicules. But pleas, continue.
  14. Thx for the kind comments! I really like the shark tooths on this Korean war Mustang. But except the decals, the F version is not much different from the P version as far as i know? Of course your completely right about the fact that most Mustangs around here are WWII P-51's. I guess that is because it became famous as a P-51. Back in the days when i was just a kid, this was the only WWII fighter i actually knew and could recognize as a P-51. Of course, not much later i found out about the ME109, spitfire and P-47 Thunderbolt. But still i didn't knew about the F-51 . Usually I go for a bit more weathering, preferable panel shadings with the airbrush. But for this one I decided to do a factory fresh look. So I kept the weathering very low. I used washes only in the wheel bays and in the cockpit. The panel lines looks bit more realistic in real then on the photos unfortunately.
  15. This kit went pretty easy together. I added some scratch build seat belts made from lead foil coming from a champaign bottle. I used Humbrol zilver nr 11 for the metallic finish with a clear gloss coat of mr hobby topcoat. The gloss coat works like a mirror and doesn't makes it easy to create some nice pictures.
