Re winging with metal wings is often referred to in books, but AFAIK it was not a common practice.

Images of the mid 1940 Hawker builds in the P, R and V serials show they retained them in service,

    https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235005804-hurricane-p3886-uniqe-fabric-wing/page/2/#elControls_3735801_menu

For more, scroll down for pics.

images of early L series that ended up in Training Command show fabric retained, eg L1926 and L1592 now in Science Museum.

    Thanks Troy:yes:

interesting. What airframe are you doing?  Early Hurricanes can be tricky in detail which is why I ask....

I haven't yet fully committed to a specific airframe, I was thinking about P/O Paul Richey's L1697, when based in France but am unsure if L1697 was still fitted with a fabric or metal wing at the time!

Mind you, I am aware that some of the modifications I'm making, are unlikely to be correct for L1697, such as the engine (taken from the Tamiya 1:32 Mosquito) but most of my builds as 'representative' rather than 'accurate'

  3. I have another request for Hurricane information, for my continuing attempts to hammer together Revell's Classic 1:32 Hawker Hurricane Mk.I/II Hybrid!

Does anyone have or can point me in the direction off, pictures which show the internal faces of the engine cowlings, cowling for the nose fuel tank and also the internal faces of the removable fuselage fabric panels!

    Many thanks

I'm quite sure you weren't having a pop, that's your truth as you see it - thank goodness we're all different!

I wont argue that point, the planet would be in a very bad position if there were 8 billion people like me!

    That even scares me 😁

I choose 1:48 as I suffer from AMS and like to add every single accessory to a particular kit and find it easier to do so, in the larger scales but that's me and as you say, we're all different and as I mentioned, I appreciate that not everyone wants to build a series of kits, in the larger scales!

For instance, I have 4 of the 1/72nd Meteor F.8, but only 1 of the 1/48th kits. If they based their analysis on the sales of the earlier 1/48th kit we might not have the 1/72nd kit.

Not having a pop but I’m not so sure about that statement, as I have 3 F.8’s and 1 FR.9 in 1:48 and none in 1:72!

I have no proof but my gut says that total sales between the two scales, is probably closer than we think and tooling up a new kit in either scale, will be based upon potential sales!

I can see the potential for a new tool Javelin series, but not so much with the Sea Vixen both of which I have in 1:48 but 1:72 wouldn’t of interest to me though I appreciate that others will have a different view, for a multitude of reasons!

No matter what Airfix release, the subject matter will suit some but not others but that’s what makes our hobby interesting!

  6. AAaaarrrrgggghhhhhhhh!

I'm not complaining but I have come to the conclusion that computers, definitely have a mind of their own, as for some unexplained reason BM notifications have started appearing back in my Inbox and I've even received one from Valiant Wings :rage:

Understanding modern technology is certainly beyond my understanding, I can even hear my computer sniggering at me, I wonder how much has been designed by the female of species? :hmmm::smile:

2  this is P2617 at hendon, when in bits to be moved, even though ended up with training command, 2 flare tubes still fitted

Thanks Troy, as always "The Master" of everything Hawker Hurricane shaped :worthy:

It was that picture of P2617 that caused my question and I've snaffled a few of your pictures, strictly for my own reference, as I'm currently trying the take a mallet to Revell's Classic 1:32 Hawker Mongrol (sorry) Hurricane Mk.I/II Hybrid, using the Grey Matter Figures fabric wing conversion set, scratchbuilt rear fuselage frame (hence the Flare Tube question), Grey Matter cockpit and an engine from the Tamiya Mosquito!

Trying to hammer all this together, it will most likely end up being a mongrol and totally inaccurate when finished but, at least it's keeping me occupied

  8. Hi there,

I have a couple of questions, regarding Flare Tubes fitted behind the transmitter/receiver shelf, in the rear fuselage of a Hurricane Mk.I, during the Battle of France and wonder if anyone can help me?

Should there 1 or 2 Flare Tubes fitted?

I have seen pictures of restored Hurricanes with either 1 or 2 Flare tubes fitted, whilst period pictures that I have access too, do not show the area clearly to confirm either way and wonder if anyone knows what the standard fit was?

When a flare was fired, where did the flare exit the aircraft and would the exit point be a door or fabric covering, similar to the patches used to cover the gun ports?

Many thanks for any help offered!

I use GMail extensively, and find the SPAM filters are generally good. I do keep an eye on them.

To the OPs point, I don't have any problems with GMail and BM email notifications; I received a rasher of them last week due to a group PM. I wonder if there's a BM email still in the SPAM forlder that is causing this poor behavior?

I check and clear the Spam folder daily!

I've given up on marking each email as not junk, though all the email notifications from BM are still being sent to the Spam folder. Strangely enough, it's only BM emails that are sent there, with everything else arriving in the Inbox.

I have however noticed that since changing from my virginmedia.com email address, to the gmail.com address, the number of emails received, does appear to have dropped!

Oh, for the days of an inkpot and quill and might even go so fair as using a proper nib, on a stick!

One thing i can tell you about them is they've ruined conversations with humans, what is it with companies and flamin' e-mails,they're obsessed,i sold my house about three months ago and it was all e-mails...Phone up to speak to lawyers, nope sort out a loan, nope the only one that spoke direct and came around was the estate agent...

Unforunately they're a waste of time and ruin human to human contact, gawd help us when AI gets a hold....

    Conversation, what's that?

And as for AI, that'll certainly get another AAaaarrrrgggghhhhhhhh!, when the time comes!

Computers are useful as a tool, but that is all and in my experience, emails are only an excuse for the terminally lazy!

    1. Send an email.
    2. Forget contents of email.
    3. When the :poo:deny any responsibilty.
    4. Blame those that received the email!

  11. What is it with computers...?

About 3/4 months ago, I changed my email provider to Gmail, absolutely no problems until about 15 days ago and now all Britmodeller notifications are being treated as Spam and even if I mark each email not junk, Never Block Sender, Never Block Senders Domain and Never Block this Group or Mailing Listing, everything ends up in the Spam Folder!

I have even added the BM domain name to Safe Contacts and to the Contacts list but still all BM notifications end up in the spam folder!

I also do not receive any mailings from Valiant Wings or Wing Leader, despite signing up to the Mailing Lists and guess there maybe others that I am not receiving, is this an issue unique to Gmail or are others here experiencing similar issues with Gmail or any other email provider?
