  1. Hi mate, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G-BDXJ cheers
  2. Spitfire crashed at Biggin Hill also, pilot ok http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=191&t=1531755&nmt=Spitfire+crash+Biggin+Hill
  3. Good afternoon, I am currently in Bridgend and there is a Typhoon circling over the Vale of Glamorgan. It's just below the cloud cover in the direction of Saint Athan, and has been circling for a couple of hours. Anyone know anything? It was doing the same yesterday, again for a couple of hours cheers Chris
  4. Yep they were Hawk T.2's http://cardiffstathan.blogspot.co.uk/2014/11/log-wednesday-12112014.html
  5. It probably is, it's CAA registration history shows that the previous owner was from County Westmeath, the Republic Of Ireland. It's civilian registration is G-BVGE Chris
  6. A few photos of the only airworthy Whirlwind, anywhere in the world, XJ729 (G-BVGE). I took these photos at Weston Air Festival a couple of weeks back. Initially I thought it had been lorried in from the helicopter museum in Weston, but no she had flown in the night before. I chatted to the two crew and the pilot (ex-army engineer) said to me that it had taken a hell of a lot of paperwork to get her back in the air, and that she is based in the Crewkerne and is mainly flown around the west country. She hasn't been flying that long. Chris
  7. Hi Rob, I took a few photos of XM652 at Welshpool, she's on a trolley: Hope these help Chris
  8. Hi Michael, I can't really comment on the KH Jaguar other than the wings are completely the wrong shape, which puts me off buying it. I have the Heller GR.1/3 and it's a re-release (same mould used for the Airfix kit), but in a darker grey plastic and with little to no flash on my example. There are Gulf markings for XZ356 'Mary Rose' but the pink in the roundels is missing for some odd reason Chris
  9. Thanks for all the well wishes guys, appreciated Cheers, I forgot to mention the thickness of the wire, it must have been as thick as my finger! Slightly unnerving but obviously up to the job You'd think that but I did actually quite enjoy it, I wasn't in much pain during the trip, all that morphine and gas I was able to take one fuzzy photograph but it's quite bad, one of my mates videoed the whole helicopter operation but I haven't been able to get hold of a copy yet I have to say that no they were all quite fit guys and not portly at all, if I remember correctly one of the paramedics was an Irish gentleman, and the remaining were Welsh Usually my feet disengage but not this time, so I'll be changing over to flat pedals when I am able to start riding again. Afan is fantastic, I ride there all the time (or did!), it's only a 15-20 minute drive. Once again thanks for the well wishes, with 8-12 weeks off work I might just be able to finish a few models off, and maybe start modelling the very Sea King I was rescued by cheers Chris
  10. Hi there, just thought I'd tell you about my recent unexpected ride in Sea King HAR.3A ZH540. Sunday 1st September 2013 was a nice dry warm day, perfect for mountain biking. I met my mates up at Glyncorrwg mountain bike centre, and we were all looking forward to a couple of hours out on the trails. We decided to ride a trail called White's Level, which I've ridden many times before. About half a mile into the climb the trail twisted over a couple of large boulders, and as I tried to negotiate my way over them I lost my balance and fell off to my left. My right foot was still attached to the bike via SPD's and on my way down there was a crunching feeling from my right ankle, and immense pain. I instantly knew I had broken my ankle, the shape of the ankle joint made it obvious. My foot was just flopping about on the end of my shin, and it looked as though the leg bones had burst out through the skin. Immense pain came about and I instantly shouted out to my mates to phone an ambulance. Confusion and shock set in but my mates made me comfortable and called for an ambulance, two of them took my bike and kit back down to the car and at the same time looked for further help at the centre. Anyway after around 2 hours a couple of paramedics arrived on foot with the two mates who took my stuff back to the car, and gave me morphine and "gas" to numb the pain, before removing my shoe and cutting off my sock. They then fitted a splint and around about this time another four paramedics arrived on scene. As no ambulance or 4x4 could get up to me and carrying me down was risked as too dangerous they decided to call in help from the RAF. It took around about 20 minutes for a Sea King HAR.3A to arrive on scene, hovering off to our left for a bit, the crew looking out through the side door assessing the best place to lower the winchman. The down draught from the rotors was incredible, and after what seemed like ages I was met by the winchman, called Neil, and he asked me my name, if I was feeling ok, etc. and went through showing me what was about to happen with the harness. The Sea King left for about 5 minutes and then returned, the dust and dirt that was blowing about was incredible. I was then fitted with close fitting safety glasses and ear defenders, and placed in the harness by Neil the winchman. I could hear muffled talking around me as the paramedics and winchman devised a plan of attack. Finally the crew lowered the winch and winched us both up. I thought I was going to pass out as we were spinning uncontrollably through the down draught. Eventually it stopped as we reached the airframe, and I clocked the serial number just before we were pulled in, ZH540. I was made comfortable sitting opposite the cabin door, and strapped in. Alongside me was one of the paramedics, I didn't know he had been winched up before me. The interior of the HAR.3A is grey and very very loud, above my head the stretcher was stowed. I noticed that the harnesses and belts were made by a company called Irvin GQ, which uncannily is just up the road from my home. Anyway it took about 10 minutes to fly me to Morriston Hospital in Swansea, and as I was unloaded I gave the crew a thumbs up, which they returned with a smile. I am so glad these guys are out there. After 2 weeks in hospital and an operation to fix a broken Tibia and Fibula with screws and plates I'm finally back home recuperating. I never thought I would be rescued by RAF Sea King and I am so thankful to A Flight 22 Squadron RMB Chivenor and their crews. cheers
  11. What I use as shelf spacers in my display cabinet are x4 20mm diameter clear acrylic rods, each at 85mm in length. I got a bag of these free from work, but they are available on-line if you google it, in many lengths and diameters. The length of them is perfect in my set-up, but I do need at least another x8 glass shelves to kit out the remaining space in the cabinet.
  12. Did you apply a gloss coat before applying the decals? Or did you apply the decals straight onto the paintwork?
  13. At least the seller has opted for Parcelforce 48 which is tracked and a signature on delivery is required. It is now common knowledge about the loophole in which fraudulent ebay buyers can claim they haven't received the items, when they have, and claim their money back. Paypal always go on the side of the buyer and he/she gets their money back, aswell as keeping the item(s). If the seller was to post it by untracked services he/she may be done over. The world's gone mad.
  14. Same error in the Dambusters boxing too, just checked.
