DDoS and Brute Force Attacks   09/18/2016

From the day following upgrade to the new forum software, 15th Sept until the 19th, we were under a concerted attack by a person or persons using a number of 'bots and other people's Proxy networks to carry out what is called a Distributed Denial of Service attack, which is a method by which these 'bots submit thousands of requests to the website per second to overload the server and bring the site to its knees.  While this was going on, they were also making Brute Force attacks on our remote communications port to try and breach the server so they could do anything from format the hard drives to change ownership of the site, and bombarding the mailserver with similar bogus requests, some of which left some rather telling details behind.  This was followed up a couple of days later with a further attack that left more data to sift through, which we have passed on to our IT forensics people. On the advice of our Lawyer and fellow member JohnT, we yesterday informed the National Crime Agency and requested their assistance with the matter, and in an ongoing dialogue with them to find the culprits, so we are allowing them access to the server and its logs.    We don't believe that this is a random attack on balance, but for 5 days and a further evening we had to put up with some disturbance and interruption to the usually fast response of the website as we are seeing now that the attack has ended.  We will prevail, and don't worry about it.  We were the target, and these people will not win.  Karma will catch up with them   Mike, Greg, Dave & Julien.

  1. To go with the Xtrakit Sea Vixen kit Model Alliance are releasing a few Royal Navy related sheets which feature Sea Vixens. There is a 1960's RN sheet shortly to be released plus HMS Eagle selection which includes some specials. We also still have limited stocks left of the HMS Ark Royal decal sheet which has Sea Vixens included. The RAE schemes will be covered in our British Test Aircraft decal sheets later in the year. 5. Sad, very Sad.
  6. Not grumpy but that was not how I read it. If Mike was saying that then I am happy to discuss. If I was wrong then I am sorry. I am not sure though that it is a Model Alliance forum issue, just some information.
  7. And? Not sure what your point is? My reply was on general thread about Tornado F3 kits and the demand for a good kit? Gary
  8. No these are mainstream injection moulded which is what is interesting. There will be an anouncement over the next couple of months from my understanding. Whilst their list is huge and some great ideas, I would think that even if they half of the planned releases it would take 2 to 3 years. The Tornado GR1/4 though is good news and I cannot understand why Revell never moulded this as a new tool similar to the 1/72 or 1/32 scale kits?
  9. Oh ok, starts with a and ends with z Seriously, Far East manufacturer is all I can say. There is also talk of AMX in both scales from same company plus early Harrier family including Sea Harriers. In 1/72 scale some very exciting releases, SH-2G Seasprite plus lots of others. Shame though about the RAN Seasprites.
  10. I should not worry to much if you do not get an F3 as we understand there are new Tornado GR1/4 and Tornado F3 kits in 1/48 Scale being released late 08 or early 09. Sorry cannot say more at moment but Model Alliance are in discussion with a manufacturer for decal options. They are also looking at Jaguar GR1/3 and T2/4, Harrier GR7/9 and T10/12 all in 1/48 scale.
