  1. I built one in 72nd about 1993 from a resin kit from a New Zealand company. I did the wing v struts and the landing skid from wood veneer and the covering was decal sheet sprayed light grey (it was covered with bedsheets and I don't think POW bedsheets got laundered much) then fine mesh laid over and blue sprayed to give a sort of check appearance. Bill
  2. I think the plan was for a very short flight, just out of the castle and land then leg it. If it was a reasonable stable design might not have needed much control, really just pitch to pull off a landing Bill
  3. OK after some experiment I'm going with Tamiya silver leaf for metal and Tamiya gloss aluminum for the corogard. Too light I guess but it gives about the right contrast with the silver leaf. Does the corogard go on the lower wing surface as well? Can't see it on pictures but it seems to me it ought to be there. bill
  4. Thanks for the info, I may just scribe the control surfaces (lot of detail got lost in sanding) and use masking and paint to do the rest. Probably going to be Tamiya 'silver leaf' for the base coat, any recommendations for the corogard? I need some contrast but not too much. Thanks bill
  5. So i'm off on the Airfix 707 (yes I know about the inaccuracies) and wondering what to do with the upper wing surfaces. Some pictures seem to show a dark center (corogard?) on the upper wings. Also not sure how much of the panel lines to rescribe, cannot find as yet any good pics of the upper wings. Anyone help? Thanks bill
  6. Sorry if this is the wrong forum, but; I been modelling aircraft for 50+ years and would like to continue a bit longer. Unfortunately there are some physical issues creeping in, my hands are getting unsteady among other things, I can no longer do fine detail or straight lines by brush. Anybody know of a source for suitable or adaptable aids to help out? Thanks Bill
  7. CT that's a really great build wish I had the skills and the time to do something like it. Unfortunately both are lacking.... Bill
  8. Yes I saw the NA39 but then I would have to convert it to an S1 The S1 resin kit is supposed to be back in stock soon so hanging in there for that. If I run out of patience meantime then we are back on the Airfix /Revell kitbash, also I got a lead on some conversion bits Bill
  9. Looking soon to do a 72 Buccaneer S1 in white with Redbeard. Really wanted the Scale Resins one but it seems to be out of stock. So are my best options are Airfix NA39 (have the kit) OOB and the heck with the fine details? Or graft the NA39 intakes on to the Revell S2 kit? Anyone have advice? Thanks Bill
  10. Well I splashed out and got the CMR Scimitar ouch my wallet, comes with Red Beard and pylon. Color call out for the store is dark green with a black nose so I guess I'm sorted for that. So the RN nuke line up proposed now is Buccaneer S1 in white, Sea Vixen in grey/white, Scimitar in grey/white and A4 Skyhawk (you know it makes sense) in white. Need some Red Beards but Freightdog does them. Bill
  11. Thanks for all the help folks, looks I got nearly enough to go for the builds, just a couple more requests please.....were the 'shapes' the same shape as Red Beard, fins and all? and what color were they? Thanks Bill
  12. Looking for a break from the Stirling build, bust the undercarriage for the fourth time......Looking at RN nuke carriers, I know the Buccaneer was capable and I got some info, but the Scimitar is a bit of a puzzle, I'm sure it was capable but I can't yet find any images of how the store was carried. I also think the Sea Vixen was certified for nuke carriage but can't find any more info on that. Anyone help? Thanks Bill
  13. OK thanks for the info. Reason I asked is that I got some 144 LPS decals for an early BEA DC3 (dark brown) some 72 Liveries Unlimited decals for a late DC3 (brownish red), some 72 AIM decals for an airspeed Ambassador (same brownish red) and some later Trident etc decals in the reddish orange Peony Red. Was wondering if the color actually changed or if LPS owe me some proper decals (the LPS website has the decals is a much brighter red) Thanks Bill
  14. Working my way into a string of post WW2 British airliners, mainly BEA and BOAC. Looks to me like the red color used by BEA morphed from a dark brownish red in the 1950s up through a reddish brown then into a nearly orange color. Anyone help me with a better guide as to what colors applied to what period? Thanks Bill
  15. Thanks for the suggestions, after a bit of thought I think I will just reverse the normal yellow/mask the tip/spray the blade and paint the blade then mask all but a mm or so at the tip and spray the yellow. Since Brit civil airplanes seem to have silver blades that should be workable. Actually by current build is the Welsh Models Airspeed Ambassador which has metal props so I will probably just polish the blades then do the yellow
