  1. Hello everybody, this is my first building log on Britmodeller, I hope posting it here will keep me motivated to continue the build. I like to apolagies for my school English but I am from Flanders Belgium! After reading a book about the German ground attack groups (Schlachtgeschwader) I remembered I had an old Airfix in the stash with the typical black triangle markings. It is the reissue of an old kit, one I have build already once before more then 25 years ago. .....I AM getting old.... It was my first commision build then but I still remember 3 things: -there was a problem with the engine lenght -the landing gear was quite fiddly -It was a very..very nice model when buildup, and I did not like it when it left!! The planning is to build the model again . But without any opening panels and only add visible extra detailling. So I can focus on the painting! First, historical research! The markings are famous because they were based at two original propaganda colour photos! much debate has been done about these photos: the exact type A, F or G type an the fact that these airplanes were "custom" painted for propaganda uses. I will build it as an F version. Some internet research revealed some more photos: with white letters and logo but also with red ones! I have chosen this one marking, also used by Eduard: red "L",it has a comfirned wr.nr 538 and is easyer to make painting masks for it! A colourfull bird! This plane HAS existed: To the box: the 1997 rebox of the 1980 kit loose parts, lots of flash and some serious sinkmarks in wings and tail section: These were all carefully filled with gel superglue (gel can be controled more easely so to minimise the sanding afterwards) and lost rivet detail redone with several differend needles The visible extra detail I am going to use. Mostly cockpit related: This concludes my first post, feel free to comment! Happy modelling Bedepee
  2. The construction works are nearly finished, the hobby table has found a new (improvised) spot.Still lots to do in and around the house but I finally found some time to dive into all those hobby cardboard boxes. Gathered some stuff together to build my first 1/48 RAF project: a Westland Whirlwind. In my opinion, an aeroplane with the looks of an race machine! The first idea will be an aeroplane with some stuff around.A small diorama. So I am open to any suggestions/ideas from you, fellow modelers!
  3. Thank you al for the nice responces: Moreover that I mostly build AFV's.... to GORBY: Lippich is old 1/48 Revell/Mauve kit to Billy T. Pilgrim: Horten is typical Dragon kit, quite good fitting only needed some extra plastic between underside hull and wings. Pilots from CMK. Gladiator is nice kit. Eduard issue = Ex Roden moulds with some Eduard extras an a Pe set from Part for the wings. To Simon T: the problem with FM kits that their quality lowers with the number produced.I remember when bying this kit I went trough 5 different boxes in the shop and taking the best looking home. When you have an early casting, they are very buildable. And the endresult is always very rewarding!
  4. Thanks Gorby, some more.... the Horten flies on a metal pin: And one of the shelf queens: enjoy!
  5. Hi all, I started work on the 1/48 trumpeter Westland Whirlwind. I have red the review here on Britmodeller but I have another question: The scale drawings always show some sort of strenghtening strips on the topside and underside of the wing. Trumpeter only shows some raised detail on the topside. As I want to build an early version, is this wing correct or just a serious mistake by Trumpeter?
  6. Hello, being a new member on this forum, I like to share some of my past work. Please. Feel free to comment! First an oldy :Horten nightfighter! (1/48 Dragon) Blohm und Voss 212 (1/48 Fonderies Miniatures) TA 152 from the comics by Hugault (1/48 Italeri) A quickbuild : The Airfix members special 1/48 Me 109 And the special edition by Eduard of the Roden Gladiator
  7. Thank you all for your warm welcome! Bedepee
  8. Hi fellow modelers, starting with an interest in RAF aircraft I bought the Whirlwind from Trumpeter. The kit needs some work, I know, and the decals are not usable! Montex makes masks, but only to replace the kit decals. I loke to build the Dieppe version with the white nose, but It seems there are no aftermarket decals for this kit! Are there any other 1/48 Whirlwind decals on the market? Bedepee
  9. Thanks for your warm welcome! Bedepee
  10. Hello, my name is Bart De Pauw from Flanders, Belgium. But as most English people have problems pronouncing my name I used my initials B D P (bedeepee) as my forum name. I am a modeller for many years now, I have build AFV as well as airplanes. While my focus was most for Luftwaffe and luft 46 subjects, I have new interest in RAF aircraft and Belgian pre 45 subjects. My main motivation to join Britmodeller is that it pops up a lot when I Google for info. This site and forums seem to have quite a few "specialists" who can probably help me out with some questions. Thanks for accepting me, Bart
