  1. For what it's worth, the firewall part ( on the second sprue in you post top left corner next to the wing spar) can cause a the front of the wing not to fit to the fuselage. You can cut off a few millimetres from the bottom or do as I did and omit it completely (on my second kit). Guess how I knew to do this. The part is completely unseen on a finished moel and doesn't really add anything to the rigidity of the fuselage.
  2. Lovely work, the Fujimi kit is still a good choice after all these years.
  3. .Fabulous work Colin. I was such a shame than non were preserved for the RNZAF Museum but you have preserved a moment in time.
  4. Just a thank you for posting you fabulous Walrus, I have been inspired to build my stash sitter and so far the AIMS set you recommended has been a godsend.
  5. A bit underwhelmed by this, I have however sent my Flying Hours to Models for Heroes, so well done Airfix for publicizing their address and I hope my 34 hours is of use to them. I have a fair few Airfix kits in the stash and I'll keep sending a batch to them.
  6. Great work Chris, Lovely cockpit and interior. I had one of these but passed it on to a club member who 'needed one for a display'. Who then sold it on E-bay for a nice profit. Shame no decent modern kit exists in 1/48th. Good luck with the Sea Hawk, I did the Classic Airframes one and was surprised by how god it was to build.
  7. I still have and treasure the Mike Keep drawings in the early SAMs. I still use them and feel the magazine lost it's way once they stopped. I believe the artist passed away
  8. Sounds like a plan at least it is a talking point.
  9. Thanks Grey Beema. So it seems simplest to remove the flags and add the serial and that at least matches the photo I have. Simples I hope.
  10. This is my latest build, It is for the IMPS(UK)hurricane SIG display at Telford (2020 or 2021), which is hoped to have one aircraft of each Squadron in the Battle of Britain. This one is 242 Squadron machine and meant to be one of the ones flown by Sub Lt 'Jimmie' Gardner. The Airfix kit is pretty much oob,I just added seat belts. The decals are from Xtradecals and went on perfectly as did the Airfix stencils and roundels. I was unsure how to finish the model as the Xtradecal sheet shows LE T having the signal flags on the port and starboard sides and no serial. The Osprey Royal Naval Aces book shows a picture of LE T with the serial V7203 with no signal flags, there is a close up picture of the flags but it shows no other detail and only shows the port side. The colour illustration shows the port side with the flags and the serial. So unless I find something different I went with flags on the port side and no serial on the basis I can add easier than remove. Thanks for looking and if you know the answers to the above please let me know.
  11. Fabulous, I always enjoyed your work with flats and this is no exception.
  12. And I got in a social distancing outdoor game with them this morning. The winning dice being thrown just as it started to rain! The Matilda was the game changer
  13. Lovely work, I especially like your Airfix French Infantryman. A kit I made a number of times and never got anything near to the standard of yours.
  14. Lovely work once again, I hope to see it when the club meetings restart.
  15. Thank you all for the kind words. Just to set the record straight NZ2510 is not a Tarpon or built to FAA requirements, as far as I know it is a standard TBF-1C from USN allocations transferred to the RNZAF.
  16. This is the old but brilliant Accurate Miniatures Avenger, as reboxed by Italeri. The Italeri instructions are just the pictures from the Accurate sheet without the helpful written instructions and the RNZAF Roundels are an appalling light blue and thus unusable. NZ2510 was one of the second batch of machines delivered to and assembled at Hobsonville in late 1943 as part of a total of 63 machines allocated to the RNZAF, though only 48 were actually delivered diverted from USN stocks. . Unusually they were delivered in the then standard USN Tri colour( actually four colour) scheme, but were marked in standard RAF roundels. These were standard USN machines so had none of the FAA modifications. The first machines were flown to Darton Field, Gisborne, and gratefully received by 8(GR) Squadron RNZAF, which was renumbered 30 Squadron. Given they were flying Vickers Vincents at the time these aircraft must have been a pleasant surprise and quantum leap forward. Individual letters were supposed to be applied alphabetically, though I have only ever seen pictures of NZ2505 as E and NZ2510 as J. The Red of the roundel was over-painted at some stage and white bars added to conform more to the standard markings of the South West Pacific. Eventually the last three of the serial was stenciled ahead of the fuselage bars and the individual letters over-painted. NZ25210 was the first RNZAF Avenger to sustain damage due to enemy action. As these airframes were almost brand new at the time of issue and when the photographs were taken, I did little weathering , just some exhaust staining and dust/ dirt on the wheels, underside and walkways. The Roundels came from Xtradecal sheets as did the serials as the varnish on the Italeri sheet had cracked. I think I would have relaced them anyway as the kit has been in the stash over 15 years and I had trouble with even the small stencils I could save.. As always thanks for looking.
  17. Nice work, I have the same decals but I have been unable to locate a kit to go with them. I really like the metallic paintwork. What paints did you use?
  18. I spoke to Martin a couple of weeks ago. Their circumstances mean they have been in total lockdown since the pandemic began. i have no knowledge of the circumstances of the business, but I'm sure their health comes first. I hope this is of some use.
  19. Thats is a lovely piece of work despite your issues. The Revell F-84E was never issued on my side of the Atlantic, just the Revell of Germany G model, I was lucky enough to have to work in Pittsburgh for a couple of weeks and managed to import two. I prefer the Revell kit to the Tamiya kit, You photography at the airfield really adds to overall look of the plane.
  20. Nice work indeed. It is one of my favourite kits from the new Airfix.
  21. To support the chaps I already posted I did some heavy weapons. The real BEF would probably have thought such an amount of support would have been luxury. Matilda I and Vickers MMG 3 inch mortar I am hoping to have a game with another local gamer in the garden next weekend. We can social distance with care so it should be ok if the weather improves. Thanks for looking.
  22. Nice work, The stowage adds a bit of extra life to the model as do the rew. I really enjoy these Tamiya 1/48th kits, I hadn't considered the M20 but you have changed my outlook.
