I'm at a point where I just need to add a few bits and then painting can commence, next week. I'll post the results in RFI when it's done but for now here are my impressions of the kit against the basic Hasegawa kit.
Italeri Positives
One piece fuselage - fewer seams to fill.
Correct forward spine/rear cockpit. easier to achive an open canopy. No need to buy the Ultracast cockpit set.
Etched seat belts included.
Better underfuselage/ rear wing joint. no awkward filling needed.
Full engine.
Separate control surfaces.
two propellor types as standard.
Italeri negatives
Cockpit floor.
No throttle quadrant.
poor fit of the gun panels( not sure why the panels are separate).
Fit of engine panels may be poor if the engine isn't fitted.
Thin plastic makes kit feel flimsy.
Hasegawa positives
Throttle quadrant.
no floor to cockpit.
Hasegawa negatives
Poor fit of parts describe in Italeri positives.
Raised blocks on wing uppersurface that need to be removed.
Too many inserts.
Only the Rotol propellor in the basic boxing
Price (UK) Italeri £29.99 but cheaper at most on line stores. Complete package, seat belts, two propellors and 5 marking options.
Hasegawa oop last price £18.99 but newer Hasegawa issues of kits of the same vintage have had a £10 average price rise on re-issue. To do an open cockpit you need to do some scratchbuilding or buy the Ultracast cockpit set, which gives the rear cockpit insert, armour plate and a seat with oxygen hose and belts. May need a DH propellor if you use after market decals.
Both kits would benefit from the Ultracast resin undercarriage bay.
So there is no price advantage to either.
Airfix still do an accurate in outline Hurricane at half the price thought it is very basic it should not be discounted.
I hope some of this helps. Thanks for looking
