  1. I would be very careful about making statements like that. You should have popped in for tea! I bet that thought oh s*** when they saw you taking pics Julien
  2. Credit to the aircrew and the fact you have to undergo training for exactly this type of thing. Was not the most pleasant thing I have ever done and you hope you never have to use it, but in cases like this it show the value. I hope it just was something as simple as a faulty oil pressure housing and not something more. These Helicopters operate in a harsh environment and I think sometimes Bond get undeserved press. Duncan where did you take the pics from, a vessel? seems a great angle you had there. Julien

  7. You forget the USMC just managed to pick up a job lot of slightly used harriers from UK MOD PLC, Arthur Daley branch! They knew a damn good deal when they saw it. That deal makes me more angry than the F-35 debarcle. Julien
  8. Never noticed that difference in the intake tunnel before, nice spot on the blog Julien
  9. Damn Mark that looks pretty good, is that just halfords paint on there? Julien
  10. The reporting may be biased (and most is) but I still think its really harsh to blame a guy for crashing his aircraft because he could not breathe when that was the problem! Airforces are quick to blame pilots (The Chinook crash on the Mull of Kintyre!) when really they are doing this to cover their own backsides. Julien

  14. I would like to say I used to work in the drawing office of a shipyard and its amazingly expensive and complex to start changing plans for something as big as a ship when its already been designed. The procedures you need to go through, and the sheer amount of drawings that need to be changed are amazing. As an apprentice I got a fair few shitty little jobs at the start. One of which involved moving of all things a light switch from one side of a door to the other. Sounds fairly simple? well let me tell you it was not. Drawings for the istallation of the mounting brackets, ,installation of switch, wiring, insulation, electrical General arrangement, General Arrangement etc (you get the picture) all have to be changed. Once changed they have to goto my supervisor for checking, then the manager. They after that through quality control. Finally they got the MOD for approval. If they (the MOD) dont change anything (if they do you start all over again!) then you have to recall all the original drawings and issue new copies. Cost for moving one light switch estimate £50,000 and that was in the late 80's!! So yes I do believe the figures for installing such complicated equipment as this. Julien
