I would like to say I used to work in the drawing office of a shipyard and its amazingly expensive and complex to start changing plans for something as big as a ship when its already been designed.
The procedures you need to go through, and the sheer amount of drawings that need to be changed are amazing.
As an apprentice I got a fair few shitty little jobs at the start. One of which involved moving of all things a light switch from one side of a door to the other. Sounds fairly simple? well let me tell you it was not. Drawings for the istallation of the mounting brackets, ,installation of switch, wiring, insulation, electrical General arrangement, General Arrangement etc (you get the picture) all have to be changed. Once changed they have to goto my supervisor for checking, then the manager. They after that through quality control. Finally they got the MOD for approval.
If they (the MOD) dont change anything (if they do you start all over again!) then you have to recall all the original drawings and issue new copies.
Cost for moving one light switch estimate £50,000 and that was in the late 80's!!
So yes I do believe the figures for installing such complicated equipment as this.
