  1. Today's progress... Looks like surgical work, but just changing the undercarriage & bomb bay doors colour from green to a more "accurate" light grey. I have no idea why I originally painted it and the interior green... no explanation at all. Some early WIP pics I just found on my phone...
  2. I have my excuses ready... Managed to knock one aileron off earlier (fat finger syndrome) today, so I'll remove the other & fix both in the straight position. One of the elevators became detached when a fat fingered person (ie.. me...again) knocked it off earlier in the build, I have not fixed them in position as yet. I'm still learning about the "fragility" thing. A little progress today, photo's to follow shortly.
  3. Wow... that door! WOW... that bomb bay! Pretty much speechless, epic is the only word I can think of.
  4. Thankyou! Another vote for Tamiya.... time to raid my local Hobbycraft's shelves methinks! Spent an hour or two with a cotton bud & water gently rubbing away and the residue has all but gone! Phew!!
  5. I'm using the Vallejo white acrylic surface primer straight from the bottle & very pleased with the results, far cheaper than halfords rattle can primer! I was also wondering how good their other paints were.. thankyou!
  6. Thankyou, I shall grab some on Monday Thanks for the paint recommendations, I hear good things about the Tamiya range so will invest in some fairly soon. I'm currently using Humbrol enamels, 50/50 with white spirit, they are very easy to airbrush with.
  7. Is this the stuff? https://www.humbrol.com/uk-en/shop/coatings-thinners/varnishes/35-varnish-gloss-12ml-acrylic-varnish.html
  8. I used Humbrol Satin Cote, unsure what brand of gloss clear cote to buy at the moment. Excellent tip regarding the making issue I had, thanks for that Thanks for the kind comments, I think we are too critical of our own work.. I mean it looks fab from several feet away lol As soon as the wife has buggered off to bed, I'll be on it with water & a cotton bud! I was warned about the Humbrol acrylics.. but did I listen? Seems I added too much thinner in the vain hope my airbrush would spray it and it settled really badly. I was utterly gutted, spent a further 2 hours with some 2k wet & dry taking it back to the primer. Pleased with the final result though.... so far.
  9. Hi chaps, Sorry about the lack of WIP pics, was more than half way through as I joined the forum, but she is "almost finished", half a dozen decals, a little more tidying up to do, a coat of future and then an oil wash. However I have a small query... I have used the Humbrol Decalfix, which seems pretty useful, however it's left marks where it's dried, how do I remove it? You may or may not have noticed that the camo scheme is not the RLM... I had a nightmare with the Humbrol Acrylic 241, it would not mix properly and soaked through all the masking, so ditched it in favor of the darkest greys.. which almost match up EDIT: Some more pics, close ups make it look awful
  10. After browsing the forums for some time I thought it better that I join up and say hello. I started modelling in the 70's when I was a young lad, 1:72 Airfix & Matchbox are the kits that would have been around at the time and built many of them, all suspended from my ceiling with cotton. Packed it in around 1984 when my parents bought me a Spectrum for Christmas, then I discovered girls & booze and the rest is history, except in my 20's I bought myself a 1:16 Fujimi F40, which I still have here.... broken & in need of a respray. So after a 25 year gap, I've started again, learning a lot of new skills and still mesmerized by the works of art I see on here and elsewhere. Has anyone discovered Plasmo on youtube? In the last couple of months I've built about half a dozen airfix 1:72 starter kits (they were on offer last year in Aldi) with varying degrees of success, starting with rattle cans and ending up with my first airbrush, which I managed to break. Replacement on the way on a very slow boat from China. When this arrives I can finish them all off..... Currently working on the Airfix 1:72 Dorrnier Do17z, what a superb kit this is for £11, amazing detail. Almost to the point of needing primer... but sadly no airbrush as yet lol. Anyway, pleased to be here, looking forward to posting some of my finished work (soon), although macro photography can be very unkind...
